Long AU background story I will never write below the cut! (also, sorry writing is not my forte’)

The Emperor of the Xing has been given a prophecy that one of his children will kill him-- it is the child who’ll bear the mark of the “Eternal”. Threatened by this, he orders high-ranking officers to inspect every clan once a year, to check if this prophesied child truly exists, and if it does, that they immediately kill them.

12th Prince of Xing, Ling Yao, receives this mark on his 7th birthday, and in his excitement (thinking that it was just a really cool tattoo), shows this to his mother. Lifen Yao, knowing of the Emperor’s plot, is devastated to see her son bear the mark, and decides to immediately flee the palace. Unfortunately, one of the Emperor’s spies hears of this and tracks them down.

With the help of Fu, one of Clan Yao’s most trusted and loyal allies, they manage to escape unscathed. Together with Fu’s grand daughter, Lan Fan, Ling and his mother learn to live the life of a civilian, staying in a rural part of the empire, where it would be difficult for them to be discovered. 

They live their lives peacefully.

At least, until Ling’s 15th name day. 

The Emperor, having gone half-mad because the death-child is still out in the open, signs a decree that whomsoever brings him this boy’s head-- together with its cursed mark --would be the next ruler of the kingdom. 

Ling eventually gets captured by one of the royal heirs, and is brought to their clan’s prison cell. Lan Fan, although ordered by her grandfather to stay behind, goes after the prince, planning to save him.

Although the prophecy wasn’t only that.

This prophesied child isn’t only meant to kill the emperor, but inside them, lives a powerful being, who will eventually save the land from its utter demise. 

This being would come out on the first full moon after the wielder’s 15th birthday.

The scene above depicts Lan Fan’s meeting with this “being”, which is Dragon!Greed, who escaped his prison cell. 

I got the story from a character’s story arc in Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden. It’s not exactly alike but they’re pretty similar. Greed, the “dragon”, would only show up every time the empire of Xing is on the threat of being wiped out. Since I don’t think I explained that part well-- if there are any corrections, please feel free to message me and I’ll edit it right away! IT’S already morning here I haven’t slept so I feel like there are some mistake
