The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness (2013) dir. Mami Sunada
something so interesting i think with the aliea kids is considering that its only the genesis kids who consider kira their father and hitomiko their sister (and by proxy each other siblings). its very reminiscent of the hierarchy inherent to the aliea academy that even suzuno, nagumo and the rest of diamond dust and prominence despite being on the same level as gaia before they were crowned genesis dont seem to view their relationships that way, and of course the blatant favouritism hiroto had always received due to kira projecting his deceased son onto him
it makes me think about the other aliea teams responses to kira apologising. the scene with the genesis kids where they all start sobbing because they cant bear to hate the man who was their sole parental figure despite his exploitation of them, especially them, that even though he created conflict between them in his favouritism towards hiroto and pitted them against each other reina cant hurt him because “you’re my father and i love you” has always got me so bad. and i just wonder so so badly about the reactions from the other teams - who may be far more bitter towards him, who never had that fatherly connection with him, who were even more expendable to him (which is saying something, considering how he treated the genesis), especially the likes of diamond dust and prominence who occupy that space of “almost but not quite”
it may have been interesting to explore with hiroto and midorikawa in season 3 as theres a consistent theme of the latter doubting himself due to having been on a “first rank” aliea team (again that hierarchy) where a touching upon the role of kira could have fit….

i appreciate yanmas consistency
🙂

the concept of areori characters being connected to the og universe only through these faint feelings, or even nonsensical dreams that, at least to them makes no sense is a really neat concept and i always love when people try their hand at it. eisei unconsciously leaning towards space themes, raimon feeling that traveling to different schools for the reinforcement program felt right somehow, tatsuya looking over occasionally whenever hiroto's name was called, and shirou sometimes closing himself off because he feels as if he was supposed to be alone.
