Being nervous around someone he liked was a little foreign to him at this age. By high school he’d garnered a reputation.

Right now he felt like he was shifting.

Steve plugged his nose sinking under the water of the bath tub, drowning out his thoughts. Battling literal monsters would do that to you.

His connection was the same plug most people used in Hawkins.

Too bad aforementioned dealer was the cause of his newfound nerves; Steve realized he had a crush on Eddie Munson.

He had no idea how to go about conducting himself with this information.

Robin was a bumbling mess around Vickie— whenever Munson burst into Family Video Steve was just as hopeless,

a total loser.

Eddie had been nice to him in the aftermath of Starcourt. He’d bought a few grams so he and Robin could move past the whole being drugged thing. She’d confessed to never even smoking weed before.

Robin called it reclaiming their power. Steve had gone all spaghetti limbed and spilling over the couch while admitting that in light of Robin’s confession he'd always found Munson kind of hot.

Robin snorted, figures, look at Nance.

And well—

It clicked.

Steve pulled himself through the surface of water tension, head clearer. He was going to stop by Munson’s trailer. He could do this. He wasn’t a complete disaster.

He wasn’t.

Steve knocked on the door, maybe he should’ve called? He knew Eddie was going back for another shot at senior year because Steve had told him about Dustin and the dorks. It was the last week of summer. Steve felt stupid for just assuming the guy would be around.

His arm fell away from the door as he was bathed in the glow of headlights.

The engine cut as a split-lipped Munson slunk out of the driver seat,

“Business is closed, big boy.”

His tone less playful than Steve had ever heard it. He approached,

“I should’ve called. You okay?”

Eddie looked skittish.

“Yeah some guys don’t like buying from fags.” His voice defiant but he wavered over the word.

Steve touched his cheek lightly, Eddie flinched, anticipating a crueler contact.

“Let’s get you cleaned up.” His voice softened, “You got any peroxide?”

Wide dark brown eyes shone wet in the twilight that was blanketing the trailer park.

Steve’s thumb swiped gently over Eddie’s cheekbone.

“Not scared?”  Eddie’s tone dipped.

His hand trail down Eddie’s jaw,

“No.”

Eddie harshly wiped under his eyes, looking away, to plug up the anger and emotion spilling over. embarrassment scalding inside.

“Let’s get you cleaned up Munson. I’m not scared of much these days.”

(i cannot emphasize enough how hard of a time i have keeping things under 1k 😅 but i love getting to participate in the microfics!)
