the outsiders musical rant !! sorry if this doesn’t make sense, i just had to get it out there !

i find it interesting that despite being the main character of the outsiders musical, ponyboy does a lot of harmonizing with others instead of just taking the melody

he takes the melody when he’s narrating,, especially about his problems (tulsa ‘67, his solo parts in i could talk to you all night and far away from tulsa, etc.) but when he sings with other people, he is normally heard harmonizing

he opts up in grease got a hold and great expectations, leaving everyone else behind as they sing the melody. this shows his yearning for a life outside of tulsa, and a life outside of his problems. he takes the lower harmony in i could talk to you all night with cherry, and the highest harmony in throwing in the towel. he is always consumed by the need to get away.

cherry keeps him grounded. he can relate and connect with her, but it’s not enough. meanwhile, pony is disconnected from his brothers, but with darry most of all (darry sings the lower harmony, musically the furthest away from pony) while soda is the connector between the two, which is why soda is the one who takes the melody during the chorus of throwing in the towel when all three brothers sing together— soda is literally in the middle of them, stuck between a rock (darry) and and hard place (pony)

ponyboy is almost always harmonizing with everyone, except for when he’s with johnny. johnny is who he sings of running away with. by killing bob (in self defense!!) johnny is the one who makes running away a reality, which is why it’s fitting that johnny is the one takes the harmony when he sings with ponyboy in far away from tulsa and death’s at my door. he’s the one that pony feels the most safe and comfortable to be himself around because pony knows that johnny always understands him.

it’s only until after johnny dies that pony begins harmonizing with him instead, jumping between low and high harmonies during stay gold. this shows how affected he is by johnnys death— his harmonies are as “unstable” as he is. he finally comes back to the melody when he sings the last line of the song by himself, internalizing johnny’s message: to stay gold, to be himself, and to learn that there are so many more reasons to why life is worth living.

during the finale, he lets darry and sodapop read out the narration, showing that he has successfully mended the gap between him and darry. he sticks to the melody throughout the entire song. he no longer opts up like he did in the beginning because he has realized that running away from his problems (and running away from the melody) cannot solve anything. by the end of the outsiders musical, ponyboy has finally grown into his own skin and is no longer ashamed of where he comes from.

What the fuck did Logan think of Wade outwardly? This motherfucker in red spandex carrying an arsenal of wicked looking weapons, weapons that he knows how to use (if that first round in the Void was any indication), just put a gun to his head. Oh, so he doesn't know bullets don't work on the Wolverine. He doesn't know Logan already tried.

And then Logan realizes Wade is a blabbermouth. Oh, that's annoying. I'm going to stab him in the balls.

Which... Logan? Seriously? Damn ok.

And then Logan realizes Wade regenerates. Oh. Oh, fuck.

And then ✨the Honda ✨ wherein as it turns out, Wade not only knows how to use his guns and his blades, but he also knows how to move his body in a fight. In a fight within a limited space. Logan explicitly directly deals damage against Wade again and again in that Honda, and Wade just rolls his neck and gestures for him to come back here, motherfucker. Do it again.

And then Logan realizes. Oh. Oh, let's fucking go.

i need to rant about this because it’s so fucking sad, i literally cried over this last night lmao

in x-men 97’ Rogue is asked to join Magneto’s side, to run Genova with him. She hesitates, but agrees. When she goes to break the news to Gambit, he’s shocked. He loves Rogue more than anything, his heart beats for her alone, which is why he doesn’t beg or cry, but instead calmly agrees to be her friend if he can’t be her lover. Even though it kills a part of him.

So Rogue leaves, to chase after the past, to chase after her dream of a lover she can touch. Gambit had tried to tell her love runs deeper than skin, but Rogue was convinced it wasn’t enough.

She floats down the steps, in a stunning red dress, and without gloves. WITHOUT GLOVES!!! Magneto meets her eyes and floats up to join her and the two dance in the air, their hands locked the entire time. Their dance is so tender, their touches slow and lingering and full of passion.

Below them, from the ground, Gambit watches. He watches the woman he loves share an act so intimate and full of love, an act he would’ve risked his life for if only Rogue had listened to him when he’d pleaded to hold her hand for even just a moment. He could’ve shouted at her, he could’ve let his pain bleed through into anger and no one around him would’ve blamed him. But he doesn’t. Because he loves her. And if Magneto is what she needs to be happy, than he will walk away.

He doesn’t see the doubt in Rogue’s eyes. He doesn’t see her kiss him, he doesn’t hear her telling Magneto that, even with their touch, their love can’t compare to what she has with Gambit. And when he dies only minutes later, sacrificing himself to assure the safety of not only Genova but the safety of Rogue, he dies with the memory of Rogue dancing with another man.

this is gut wrenching.

If you don't want to replace any prompt from the original list but still love the additional ones - or you simply want to challenge yourself even further - you can also mix them all together!

No inc*st or p*dophilia - we can’t keep you from writing it or creating art for it but it won’t be reblogged. No inc*st: This rule does not apply to distant cousins and such, as you might find in the LotR fandom (or basically in all of European Monarchy). The line we draw is at direct blood relations (siblings, parents, kids) and/or legal guardianship. No p*dophilia: This rule does not rule out fandoms that feature teenagers such as Harry Potter, Heartstoppers, Hunger Games, etc. It also doesn't mean you can't write about their time together as teenagers! It's aimed at ships in which one is a minor and the other is not - but since even that has grey areas, the rule is this: if you keep it SFW, all is good and allowed, we don't care; if it turns NSFW, be mindful of the legalities of the world/society/times your characters live in.

No hate or ship bashing - we’re all different and we all love different things. As long as it doesn’t go against rule #1, it’s allowed.

You can mix and mash different mediums however you like, be it within one prompt or on different days.

While we can’t force you to write fluff or create fluffy art, please try to keep in mind that this is a fluff event 😉 that, of course, doesn't mean you can't combine it with angsty/whumpy prompts - hurt/comfort is absolutely welcome!

You can start creating as soon as you see this - but please refrain from posting before the respective day.

If you post early, we will schedule your post for the correct day; if you use multiple prompts in one creation, we will post on the earliest day you used.

You can participate on as many days as you like, even if it’s just one; you can also create multiple entries for the same day.

You can replace as many original prompts as you like with our prompt extras; you can also combine them with the original prompts or create for them in addition, that's completely up to you.

It’s okay to write one story/a series for all the prompts.

You do not have to stick to one character, ship, or even one fandom - switch as often as you like to or even write for multiple ships for one day.

The ship does not have to be a romantic one! Friendship and family feels are more than welcome (but this is not a way to get around rule #1!)

Original works as well as OCs in fandoms are welcome! But please make sure to mark these clearly, either in the tags or the post itself.
