I mainly write fanfics/ x you/reader stories but I can't help but feel like I use the word "you" SO often. When I read over my works I feel like I use the word "you" multiple times in every other sentence but I have absolutely no idea how to get around it and I'm worried it gets too repetitive. Any advice on how to get around that??

Fan-Fiction: Too Much "You" in X You Story

If I'm understanding "X-You" fan-fiction correctly, it's written in second-person, meaning the narrator says things like, "You walk up the stairs and turn down the hall. A long, dark corridor stretches out before you, sending chills down your spine."

If you feel like you're overusing "you," it may be because you're doing a "laundry list" of actions rather than telling a story:

You walk up the stairs. You turn down the hall. You see a long, dark corridor stretching out before you. You feel chills skittering down your spine. You swallow past the knot in your throat and start walking. The floor creaks under your foot and you jump at the sound. You take a deep breath and keep moving forward.

See how that's just a list of actions? You did this, you did that, you did some other thing. Try rewording:

A central stairway leads to a long, dark corridor stretching in both directions. With a gulp, you turn left and start walking as chills skitter down your spine. The floor creaks and you jump at the sound. Swallowing past the knot in your throat, you keep moving forward.

From eight yous to three just by rewording. Part of that is relying more on showing rather than telling. "You walk up the stairs" is telling, but "a central stairway leads to a long, dark corridor" is showing. The character could only know there is a corridor at the top of the stairs if they walk up it, and the reader is smart enough to assume that they did.
