The Other Daughter of Lady Dimitrescu

Chapter 2: New Dimitrescu?
Summary: A human infant was found in the year 1998. What will ever come of the child when Mother Miranda finds her alone in a basket in the village when she pays a visit? What happens when she decides to show the four houses of her discovery? What will happen when the four houses meet the infant? What if Mother Miranda were to offer them custody of the infant?

As Alcina walked, holding Camilla on the way to her castle, she began speaking to Camilla. âNow Camilla, I must warn you⌠Your sisters will probably not be as accepting as I.â Camilla tilted her head slightly with wide eyes and mouth open in confusion, making Alcina laugh at the expression. âYou will understand shortly, you will be considered different from them and by them. To me though, you are very similar. You are my children. I see no difference between you and them. I am here for you, never think differently.â
Alcina walked into her castle with Camilla in a close secure hold that kept her warm from the cold. Her other daughters then appeared to greet her. Faces cleaned without blood and clothing fresh from the laundry.Â
âWelcome back, Mother.â
âMother."
âHello, Mother.â
âAh! Daughters! How are you three? Bela? Cassandra? Daniela?â
âWe are just fine, mother, you seem more cheerful than when you usually do after the meetings between the four lords⌠something delightful occurred?â Asked Bela.
âOh yes! Better than the most recent meeting.â Before she could continue a yawn was heard from Camilla in her hold and the three sisters finally acknowledged the presence of the babe in their motherâs hold.
Daniela gasped in surprise, âIs that⌠a baby?â
Cassandra glared slightly at the child, âWhy do you have a baby with you?â Bela though kept quiet waiting patiently for their mother to explain.
âOh hush, you three. That is no way to act with your sister.â
âBut mother!âÂ
âNO! You must treat this baby as if she were your sister whether you like it or not. I better not hear a word of argument. She entrusted me and chose me to care for her. I love you, all the same, do not believe for a second that Camilla is going to take my love away from you three. She needs more attention for being a baby. I will need your assistance to take care of her. Understood?â
âYes, mother.â The three said in unison.Â
âNow that we have come to an agreement, I would like to formally introduce you to Camilla. Camilla, these are your sisters.â As Alcina introduced them Camilla began babbling nonsense and clapping her hands. None of the sisters stepped up towards the baby. Camilla then grew slightly sad: stopping her claps and becoming quiet once more than turning towards Alcina, facing her. Alcina gave a slight sigh and gave a small smile to Camilla. She was about to dismiss her other daughters and go to her room until Bela stepped up. Alcinaâs eyes widened slightly in glee at her daughterâs trying to come to terms.Â
âMother. May I hold her?â
âWell, let's see what she wants.â As Alcina was giving Camilla to Bela, Camilla turned her head to see Bela and began to babble nonsense once more with a smile on her face. Now in Belaâs hold, Camilla squealed with joy and moved around to see her surroundings.Â
âShe is a curious one isnât she mother?â Bela said with a small smile.
âIndeed, she is, Bela. Indeed, she is. Now play nice, I trust you four not to create chaos while Iâm not present. I will be in my room if you need me.â With that Alcina left Camilla in her three sisters' care.
They had not gone unnoticed by the staff though. The maids had a look of worry and fear in the direction of the infant. All thinking the same. We must save the poor child before it's too late! They started to go back to work once again to not be caught staring.
Camilla began putting her hand in her mouth, but Cassandra moved to grab her hand before she did. âNow little Camilla, you donât want to do that. I donât think your hand is very tasty⌠to you⌠that isâŚâ Bela let out a laugh.Â
âCare for the babe all of a sudden Cassandra?â Cassandra in response answers with a slight growl.
âOf course not. Mother entrusted us with the child. I am simply taking care of her, as our mother asked of us. She is nothing, she is not blood, I will never consider her to be my sister. Within time our mother will grow bored of this-- this thing and we will be back to the lifestyle we lived in.â
âNever say never, Cassandra. Mother will not grow bored of the child, remember mother wanted to have a baby of her own before she had us? If you didnât notice, she seemed disheartened when we didnât approach the child. We donât know what occurred at the meeting, but mother seems very attached to Camilla. We should stop living in the past and move forward with a lifestyle including Camilla. Isnât that right Camilla?â Even as a baby Camilla paid attention to her sister's conversation with one another, silently watching as the events played out. That was until she was called and immediately focused on Bela. All she could do in response was giggle.Â
âI want to hold her Bela! As you said, I might as well get comfortable. I want to bond with my little sister!â Daniela exclaimed while holding her arms out for Camilla. Bela did as asked, and Camilla squealed with joy once again. âAw! How cute! I am going to teach you everything, Camilla! How do you feel about a tour around the castle? Sounds fun right?â A clap of the hands was the response given. âVery well! Letâs go! Bela! Cassandra! Suggest you hurry or you will be left behind.â Daniela then left, dispersing into flies holding Camilla, giving her a tour of her new home. Cassandra rolled her eyes in annoyance and with great reluctance followed Daniela. Bela shook her head and left out a sigh. You will fall for Camilla eventually. I know you well enough Cassandra, but I should let mother know to let her be aware of what to expect⌠Bela followed through with her thought and dispersed into flies only to appear in her motherâs room.
âMother, I apologize for interrupt-â She stopped talking when she noticed her motherâs mood was not the best as it was earlier, she seemed to have been drinking her wine and writing in a book with a bitter passion.
âA proper lady always knocks⌠You know better not to disturb.â As she was about to write again Bela interrupted once more.
âI apologize once more, mother. But this is about Camilla, and I thought you would want to know immediatelyâŚâ At this point, Alcina saw no reason in continuing her journaling and decided to put it away for another time. She stood up and began walking to a nearby window with her cigarette holder in hand and looked out seeing snowfall gently inhaling the vice and slowly exhaling, while doing all of this not once did she look at Bela.
Internally, Alcina knew this would happen from the very beginning, though she never knew who wouldnât accept Camilla. All she knew was that when she first looked into those eyes her views on the world would change, knowing not all mortals were vermin. She simply couldnât reject those innocent blue eyes.Â
âGo on.â
âCassandra.â
âTo say Iâm not surprised would be an understatement.â
âSo, you knew she would act as she does?â
âNot particularly, I am after all your mother. What I didnât know was which of you would hold the most hate for little Camilla.â
âThen why accept the burden-â Bela immediately stopped talking with the look her mother gave her. Alcinaâs eyes were filled with slight anger and disapproval.
âBela. I expected much better from you. You were after all the first to greet Camilla. Tell me, was it all an act? Tell me what your thoughts were. You were awfully quietâŚâ Bela winced slightly; her mother analyzed her very carefully throughout the whole exchange of the âwelcomingâ.Â
âWellâŚâ Bela couldnât think of anything to say. It became quiet, Alcina turned to look back at the window, taking another inhale from the cigarette. She waited silently for an answer.
âWell? Here. Let me rephrase it for you daughter. Why did you have a change of heart?â
âI did not have a change of heart. I only accepted the child for you. I apologize for just now saying and I know you donât like me prying but I did see you coming to the castle beforehand. You looked overjoyedâŚâ
âI see⌠Quite unfortunate⌠you may go.â Bela wanted to say something more but, in the end, she thought better of it and left her motherâs quarters. As she was walking through the halls she ran into Daniela and Camilla. They seemed to be heading towards where she came from. As she passed by, she stopped walking. Without turning to face them she spoke, âMother is not in the nicest of moods. I wouldnât suggest you disrupt her.â After that, she began walking once more to her room. She then realized Cassandra wasnât with them. She quickly turned to face the direction they were headed,
âDaniela!âÂ
Daniela stopped walking and turned to face Bela, tilting her head in question. âYes, sister?â
âWhere is Cassandra?â
âShe said she was heading to her room. Iâm going to our mother to give her Camilla. She is tired. See you.â With that answer, she began heading toward their motherâs room. Bela turned back and began walking to Cassandraâs room.Â

Bela finally arrived in front of her sisterâs room. She gently knocked on Cassandraâs door. She heard a faint groan in what seemed to be in great annoyance. Bela sighed, âCassandra, itâs only me⌠No CamillaâŚâ With that, she heard a faint âcome inâ, she obliged and entered silently.Â

Back with Daniela and Camilla, Daniela stood with Camilla in her arms. Looking to their motherâs door then back to Camilla, who looked at her then the door in curiosity. Daniela laughed lightly at this and took a breath before knocking on the door. Footsteps were heard from the other side, growing louder with every step. The door opened to show their mother on the other side.Â
Her cold demeanor changed in an instant with a warm smile at seeing Camilla in Danielaâs arms. Alcina moved aside, motioning Daniela in. Daniela did as she was told and entered finding a seat, Camilla turning in her hold to see their mother. Joy was in her eyes, and she was once again babbling nonsense, squealing at times reaching for her.Â
Alcinaâs smile widened. âDaniela, you seem to be struggling⌠Mind if I take the little one off your hands?â
âOf course not, Mother!â
Alcina walked towards them, Daniela held the infant out and Alcina immediately took her but not without kissing Danielaâs forehead before moving to her seat, holding Camilla. She began dandling the infant in her lap while the baby held onto her dress. Alcina spoke while looking down at the infant with love, âArenât you the adventurous one? How were your sisters? Had fun?â The baby clapped. âI thought you would. If only all your sisters would accept you as Daniela did. Speaking of Daniela⌠Dear?â
âYes, Mother?â
âHow do you feel about Camilla being a part of our family?â
âIt is a new experience, but I enjoy the time I spent with her today. I am sure as we continue. It will come naturally, and Camilla will be one of us. Whether or not she is related to our blood, as we grow closer and bond with her, I donât think anything would change. I apologize for prolonging my answer, but I do believe you know my thoughts on the matter. I enjoy having Camilla as a part of our family.â Alcina had a bright smile on her face and looked back down at the infant in her hold. Camilla was now half asleep, her eyes fluttering every so often, trying to fight off the sleep overwhelming her.Â
Alcina took notice of this though. She shook her head softly, she then glanced towards the window to find it dark outside, âOh my! Well, now I understand why you are a tired little one. You have had quite an exciting day. I do believe sleep is in order for you.â The infant began to tear up, alarming Alcina. âDonât cry. There is no need to cry.â Camilla seemed to be frightened, frantically moving her legs and her arms reaching for the neckline of Alcinaâs dress, gripping it tightly.Â
Though Alcina didnât understand why the child was so frightened, Daniela seemed to have understood Camilla.
âMother, where did you find Camilla?â
âMother Miranda gave me permission to be her guardian-â Then it clicked, her eyes widened in realization, and she looked at Camilla with a gentle expression. âOh. No. Darling. You poor child. I wonât leave youâŚâ She gently laid Camilla down in her lap and caressed her head in an attempt to soothe her. The infant had begun to cry. All Alcina could think of was to bring the baby to lay on her collarbone as she gently quieted her, continuing to dandle her. Slowly but surely, Camilla began to calm down. Her eyes began fluttering shut. Quietly, Alcina pulled little Camilla away from her collarbone to see her.Â
âPoor child. I will never give you away⌠I wonât let you go. No need for such fear. I bet you were so scared, my little warrior⌠But you have us nowâŚâ She gently placed a kiss on her forehead and wiped away the fallen tears.
She then looked to Daniela who watched closely in admiration. She smiled gently and whispered, âDaniela, it's about time for all of us to eat. Please let your sisters know. Also, be sure to let the maids know I call upon at least one of them to do what I ask when they arrive.â With a nod of Danielaâs head, she dispersed into flies and vanished from the room.Â
Alcina looked down at the sleeping child. Gently, she cupped the back of Camillaâs head and stroked her head while humming gently, only moments later to be interrupted by a knock on her door. She let out a disgruntled sigh. Camilla began to move from the sound. Alcina began stroking the babeâs head to soothe the child once more. She moved to the door and opened it to find a maid.Â
âAh. Youâve arrived. Excellent. Now, be a dear and fetch a crib.â The maid bowed in understanding and left to do as told. As she continued to wait Alcina looked out the window. âDear little Camilla. How our lifestyle will change now that you're here. Isnât that right, my little warrior?â Camilla snuggled herself deeper into Alcinaâs hold, unconsciously putting one of her hands in her mouth, while her other kept holding onto Alcinaâs dress neckline. Alcina noticed this and gently took the hand from her mouth and grabbed a handkerchief from her desk, cleaning her hand. Another knock rang from the other side of her door. She placed down the handkerchief, readjusted Camilla, and moved to open the door to find the maid with a crib.Â
âThank you. Please move it inside near my desk. I will also need you to get a pacifier.â As told, the maid left with a bow.Â
Alcina sat in her chair, moved the crib closer to her, and gently placed Camilla in the crib. She noticed that blankets were missing and began to look for an alternative. That was until there was a knock on her door leading to the balcony. She moved to see who it was to find Mother Miranda holding a folded blanket in one hand and a basket in the other. Alcina moved to open the door to the balcony and immediately let Mother Miranda in.Â
âMother Miranda. To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit? Especially when the meeting had just endedâŚâ
âWell, Alcina, I came here to give you the basket she was in and the blanket she was covered with. She seemed very attached to them.â She held out the objects for Alcina to take.
âThank you, Mother Miranda.â She said as she took them out of her hands.Â
âWell with that, I take my leave. Keep me updated on how the child is doing.â
âOf course, Mother.â
Mother Miranda vanished and Alcina went back to Camilla and gently placed the blanket over her. Alcina then kissed her hand and placed it on Camillaâs forehead. âI will be back momentarily, rest for now though.â She then turned off the lights and quietly closed the door behind her.Â

An Eastern European village. It was a cold day. Every villager prayed to Mother Miranda for them to be safe. Yes, she heard them perfectly well, she didnât care for them in the least. Again, at the meeting of the four lords, they still acted like children. Spoiled. Mishaps. Failed experiments. All unfit to be my daughterâs host. Thatâs all Miranda could think of them as.Â
âIf you donât mind my children, I must take my leave⌠important business I must take care of⌠Donât do anything you may regret when I get backâŚâ
âBut Mother Miranda! Heisenberg brought this upon himself! He dared to bring his forsaken creatures near MY castle. Something must be done!â Said, Lady Dimitrescu seemingly trying to persuade her opinion. Unfortunately, she didnât care either way. She waved her hand in dismissal.
âDo what you must but all I order is that there is no bloodshed between the four of you. Iâm off.â With that, she left.
âWhy must I be placed in the same crowd as you three?â
âHey! Not like I wanted to be grouped with you either, but you know we have no say in the matter. So, you better stop with the shit or there will be problemsâŚâ
âOh! How hilarious you truly are, child.â
âYou want to say that again?!â
âFight! Fight! Fight! Fight!â
âShut the fuck up you stupid doll!â
âHa! Seems that you canât handle a simple ruse out of a doll⌠How childish.â
The arguments continued. Non-stop. They finally decided to stop arguing, though that was only because Heisenberg let up in the end appealing to Dimitrescuâs demands knowing there was no point in fighting her but not without slurs being thrown at both parties and the spectators. They all went back to their seats and waited for Mother Miranda to return and dismiss them.

During the dispute between the houses, Mother Miranda disguised herself as a traveler passing by trying to find another candidate as a host for her daughter. On she went, passing by villagers and the shrine they go to worship her. Seems to be currently in service she was just about to leave when she heard a cry of what she thought to be an infant.
She began the search for where the noise was emitting. It appeared that no one cared for the noise. As she walked the noise continued to grow louder.
Finally moving into a clearing, there lay a basket in front of the Maiden of War. Miranda grew curious as to why there was a basket in the middle of the village, why hadnât anyone dared come forward to claim the child? As she moved closer a voice of a villager cried out, âDonât touch it! We have no clue where that thing came from.â Before she could ask, another villager spoke, she stopped momentarily, then continued toward the basket.Â
âCan it! Someone not from around these parts left the poor thing thinking that someone here would be kind enough to take it. The guardian seemed upset about the decision but left anyway.â She finally stopped in front of the basket, looking down she could see small outlines of hands and could hear wailing emitted from under a pink blanket that was covering the infant. After a moment of contemplation Miranda spoke.Â
âIf I may ask⌠Why hasnât anyone taken the child?â
âWe would need Mother Miranda to make that decision⌠This child could be a bad omen for all we know.â As they continued the conversation Miranda gently removed the blanket to find a small baby girl with a note.
Name: Your decision
Born: December 10th, 1998
âIf you are reading this then I thank you. Please take care of my child, I apologize for leaving her behind. She deserves much better. I hope she is given much joy with you.âÂ
After reading the note she looked back at the infant. âSo⌠You were recently born⌠A couple of weeks⌠Very interestingâŚâ The baby continued to cry until Miranda placed her hand on top of their head. The infant began to calm down only left with a tear-streaked face.Â
âVery well thenâŚâ Miranda covered the infant with the blanket once more and lifted the basket into her hold. She began to leave, that is until the villagers began to speak with her.Â
âH-hey! Wait! We donât know what that child could do! I donât suggest you take it!â
âYou seem very adamant. Were you by chance the one who brought the thought into the rest of the villagers' pathetic minds that this baby could lead to the demise of this village? If anything, you are to blame, not a baby that hasnât committed any sin as of yet.â That shut them up quickly. Miranda continued to walk on until she was out of sight from the villagers. She shifted to her normal appearance and looked down at the child once more to find it staring back with puffy innocent eyes, it closed its eyes and fell asleep not a moment later.Â
âWe must tell the four houses of you, shouldnât we?â Only a mumble in response. With that, they disappeared.

Miranda reappeared at the meeting and looked at all four of them.
âYou all seemed to have figured out your problems.â
âMother-â
âSILENCE!â As demanded, they all kept quiet. A wail erupted from the basket being held by Miranda. She looked frustrated; she had just gotten the child to be comfortable with her. It was silent except for the wails of the child. Shock and confusion rolled off of the four lords in waves. Lady Dimitrescu was the first to speak.
âMother Miranda is that?âŚâ
âYes, it is. Unfortunately, she does seem afraid now. Care to try and calm her down?â Silently, Dimitrescu put her cigarette holder down and walked to the basket and unveiled the infant. The babe was a sight for sore eyes in Dimitrescuâs opinion. The liveliest pair of blue eyes sheâd ever seen. The moment she touched the child an electrifying feeling shot down her arms and went through the rest of her body. She couldnât move for a moment, when she refocused, she found the child examining her as well, after a moment the baby began to cry once more. She lifted the babe into her hold and began calming her.
âOh, hush now. There is no reason to cry. A young lady should never cry but stay strong and collected.â The baby slowly stopped crying and yawned in exhaustion.Â
âI wanna see! I wanna see!â The child seemed to be frightened of the loud demands and began sniffling once more threatening to spill more tears.
âBeneviento, I do suggest that you stay quiet. If this baby cries again I will hold you responsible and make you pay.â She began lightly dandling the child to calm her down, it: being very effective that the child calmed down once more in Alcinaâs embrace.Â
âOh Ha Ha. Are you already getting attached to the thing?â
âQuiet, child! It is a matter for me to know and for you to keep quiet and move along with your day.â She turned away from him to keep the babe out of his view.
âHuh. Well then, Mother Miranda I was wondering if I could see the child as wellâŚâ A growl could be heard from the countess in annoyance and slight anger still holding the babe. âDonât give me that shit! I asked Mother Miranda and whatever she says goes!â Before he could argue more Miranda held up her hand to silence him. She then looked at Dimitrescu.
âAlcinaâŚâ
âYes, Mother Miranda?â
âLet the child decideâŚâ Alcina looked reluctant but relented knowing that there was no choice in the matter. She slowly turned to face him, staring down at the child in her arms as the child stared back, she started to move the girl towards him. That was until the baby figured out what she was doing and began to wail once more and reached her arms out for Alcina.
âWhy you little-â Heisenberg immediately became infuriated and annoyed, holding out his hammer, giving Alcina the thought he was going to attack. In response she brought the babe with a secure hold to her sternum and drew her claws out, seething at Heisenberg. The baby of course was still crying. Alcinaâs attention was brought back to the child in an instant, retracting her claws in the process.
âHush now. I wonât let you go. No need to cry. Hush.âÂ
âLooks like you have grown attached-â
âQuiet, Heisenberg. As I said before, move along.â He growled at this and began to draw closer to them, scaring the child even further.Â
âENOUGH!â They all stopped in their actions. The child even became quiet in fear but was immediately comforted by Alcinaâs gloved hand gently brushing the back of her head protectively.
âMother Miranda. If you donât mind me asking, what is her name?â
âShe doesnât have one. I found the child in front of the Maiden of War statue.â Alcina was about to speak once more but Heisenberg cut in.
âHow about we ask what the child wants to be named? Iâm sure it will answer.â He stated, dripping with sarcasm.
âThe child can understand you; you do understand that donât you?â
âTch. Yeah. Right, all it does is cry.â A grunt was heard, and they all turned their heads to the child who was seemingly glaring at Heisenberg. He smirked, âAw. Now you're growing a set of balls on ya? Ha! Donât waste my breath.â The baby in response grumbled lightly, that was until a hand began rubbing her back.Â
âYes, I know he is very annoying, but you must ignore that. Just retain your air of joy and ignore the fowl man, CamillaâŚâ The sour expression faded to one of confusion on the babyâs face, that was until she figured out who Alcina was talking to and the expression on her face turned to one of joy.
âCamilla: âA legendary warrior maidenâ huh?â
âKarl, I say it sounds fitting, especially from where I found the child. As you suggested, let the child decide.â Mother Miranda said finally deciding to cut in.Â
âEnough talk! I wanna hold it! I wanna hold it!â Said the doll holding her arms for the baby. The baby gripped the neckline of Alcinaâs dress, and she laughed lightly at the childâs actions.Â
âThere, there little Camilla. No need to go to such lengths.â The said baby looked back at the countessâ face and placed a small hand on her cheek. Alcina smiled from the action and moved her hand to cup the side of Camillaâs face. She then frowned slightly knowing that Mother Miranda would want the child back.
âMother! Do you think I could use the child as an experiment for you?â Said Moreau. Alcinaâs head snapped to him in an instant, she sneered at him in anger forever suggesting that. She then felt a little hand rub her cheek softly to calm her down. She moved her attention back to Camilla and smiled softly at her efforts.Â
Miranda contemplated it though. Maybe I will be able to bring back EvaâŚÂ She then turned to Alcina holding the baby. Seems the babe has already grown attached to her as if she were her motherâŚÂ âAlcina⌠Hand me the childâŚâ With much reluctance, Alcina did as asked, unfortunately though Camilla began to cry. Even as Miranda was trying to calm her down but to no avail, Camilla began struggling more trying to reach out to Alcina.
âCamilla, behave. Mother Miranda was the one who found you at least appreciate the generosity she has given you.â The baby immediately stopped struggling but still fussed. That was all Miranda needed to know.
âAlcina you may have the child back.â She said, holding the child out for Alcina to take. âNo experiments will come to the child unless Alcina permits itâŚâ Alcina bowed her head slightly in gratitude, her attention moved to the child now in her arms once more. âThat being said⌠you will be in charge of the child.âÂ
âUnderstood,â Alcina said without hesitation.
âWith that, you are all dismissed.â Miranda then vanished once more. The other Lords looked pissed, to say the least.Â
âWhy the hell wasnât it a majority vote? Give me the damn child. Iâll be sure to take care of it.â
âNo! No! No! No! I wanna take care of it! Show it all the fun things you could do with dolls!â
âI want to experiment on the child to help, mother.â
âENOUGH! The child is in my care and as she is in my care you are not to come one step near her if your motives are atrocious. I will treat her as I do my other daughters now that being said I will not be against cutting you all down where you stand. Understood?â Without hearing if they agreed or not, she left the meeting to her castle. Oh, what adventures little Camilla would bring to Alcina and her daughters at Castle Dimitrescu.
