Years ago, administration allowed the tallest building on MIT campus to have lights installed in the bottom of all the windows to display an American flag as a gesture of hope after 9/11. What administration didn't realize is students also set up all the lights to have a full range of color optons and be controlled by a separate server, so since then the Green Building has lit up a couple times on memorable occasions as a massive game of tetris, pong, and even a one-pixel Mario game that students could come by and play on one of the largest outdoor screens ever. But last night I walked past and turned to take this picture. The flag is back, and it's visible from nearly the whole Boston waterfront, and it's almost directly across from the attack site and it's my favorite.

he's caught and we're not in a state of emergency anymore and I'm not going to write about last night because I don't want to but thank you, thank you so much for all the phone calls and texts and messages from people who care about me and everyone here.
Boston is crazy strong and I'm again I'm feeling just so proud to be a part of this community. The Green Building now shows a black ribbon to honor all those lost, and especially Sean Collier, who gave his life protecting us.

Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light. :)
Until I’d run the Boston Marathon, I had no idea that an entire city could, without calculation or reservation, express so much love.
That’s what I thought about when I saw the explosion, and the police who ran toward the scene rather than away from it. I grieved for the runners and spectators who had been hurt or killed. And I wondered what would happen to all that love.
I hope it never goes away.
love in our city on this day. i'm safe, proper post later
In Which I Check In
pros: summer is glorious and warm and my island and the water are stunning basically all the time. 'tis the season for trivia and froyo and playing settlers and swimming and concerts and explosives. I get to hang out with friends I'm still friends with even though we go to school far away, I don't have to miss my boyfriend anymore, and my stress levels are unbelievably lower than during the school year. In spite of-
cons: i'm working little jobs i found online that don't make me lots of money and fuck it realLY SUCKS feeling like I'm not doing anything worthwhile while all my classmates are busy doing brilliant things and my friends work away at their bio labs and mechanical companies. i'm mildly terrified of doing awfully at everything when I get back to school. college is expensive as fuck. my parents are being irritating all the time.
CONCLUSION SUMMER IS GOOD
I've been waiting for this.
