"Things Ain't What They Used To Be"
Naturalist Armstrong Feint sat in the rocking chair, with his daughter beside him, on the porch of their house. It had become a sort of night time ritual of the remaining Feints. Young Ellington began experiencing night terrors ever since the departure of her mother, so Armstrong would take her out here with some blankets, music, and Black Cat coffee. Despite it being a stimulant, she fell into sleep relatively fast. Armstrong wanted to spend one more night with her, he won't see her for a long time, not after what he'll do. A part of him wanted to stay with her, so soon after his wife left, and here he was leaving her too. But he has to, he'll do anything and everything it takes to get revenge. As he sipped his bitter coffee, and listened to the music he thought to himself, "Things ain't what they used to be." He thought of the previous years, when he first married, and then had dinner at Hungry's. He thought about when his daughter was first born, and his wife let them name her after his favorite musician. He thought of the days he would walk across the busy streets with his wife and daughter in his hands. He thought of all the ski tournaments, he and his wife would watch them, and she even thought of participating one time. He thought of when the sea started getting drained. He thought of when that bloody statue was made. He thought about the day he came home, and his wife was no longer with them. As the record stopped, he set his half empty mug down, and slowly got up without waking up Ellington. He was unsuccessful, and her eyes fluttered open. "Father? Where are you going?" she asked, tiredly. He gave her a kiss on her forehead, and told her he'll be right back. It was too dark, so the young girl couldn't see the tears forming in his eyes. When she fell back to sleep, he creaked the door open, heavy coat and mask in hand, gave her one last look, and departed too.
Dear ATWQ fandom:
Tomorrow is the anniversary of Book 4 being published, and I was wondering if anyone else would like to mark this date as World Ellington Feint Deserved Better day? If so, please reply with ideas on how to celebrate!
