Teen Wolf 2x03

Two things bug me, though. Why did I not know about Boyd before this season started? Isaac and Erica's names have been pretty widely known for weeks and they'd even started turning up in fic before their episodes aired. I don't know if it's the showrunners or fandom who's to blame but it's...odd that the black character is the one whom I haven't heard of. Maybe I just haven't been playing close enough attention, though. And I am psyched that next episode will probably feature two black characters heavily in the plot (maybe we'll find out what the veterinarian's name is, or anything else about him besides that he's a badass).

The other thing that bothered me was Erica's transformation. Sure, it's sort of believable that the main thing a teenage girl would want, due to societal pressure, is to be gorgeous and desired, but...ugh. Wanting to be rid of her epilepsy was a good motivation, but even that seemed to come down to "this life-threatening disease makes me look ugly" than anything else. It's not like becoming a werewolf made Scott or Isaac magically sexy. I'm just saying, I hope Derek continues to be the femme fatale of the pack and that Erica gets to have conversations that are not about her cleavage. THIS IS TEEN WOLF. WE OBJECTIFY THE MENS HERE. (Also, having the two women in the cast introduced via the theme song by their relationship to male characters? Not cool.)

I enjoyed all the main characters, too, even Scott. His ice-skating fail was predictable but funny, like all bad things that happen to Scott. I liked that Lydia and Stiles got some screentime together, and that Stiles is attracted to Lydia for her smarts and talents most of the time, even though he does also want her sexually. Can't say as I blame him. Also I want all of her clothes. I would have liked more Allison-in-badass-training than ice skating, but I liked her little interaction with Lizard Food about how awesome she was. The Lydia/Jackson werewolf antibody STD or whatever the writers are smoking is the most compelling thing about their terrible relationship thusfar, but I still hate them and wish the credits would stop indicating that they are Ment2B or some nonsense. They are abusive and awful to each other.

Other Stiles things: did Erica knock him out in part so that he wouldn't be able to come and help Scott? Aww. Stiles is useful! The shirt-changing scene and the joke about him being attracted to Scott were great. I like a show that can gently tease its fans.
