Part 3

(Y/n POV)
It was three weeks after Christmas and we were finally going back to school and I was dreading it we got off the bus and started walking into the school when Craig and I turn our head and see Kenny looking at us like heâs ready to kill us and we continue walking into the school when Billy speaks up
âMan, bring back after a holiday sucksâ and Craig and I walk faster to the cafeteria âWhatâs your hurry you guys?â Margie asked âYeah where are you going?â U-boat questioned and Craig and I turn around with a smile on our faces and show our new iPhoneâs âWhat?âŚâ Billy said and Craig and I shrugged our shoulders âDude youâre shitting me!â Craig and I walk in the cafeteria and pull up a chair at the Apple table and I sit across from Craig and smile at him.
Margie, Billy, U-boat all got phones shortly thereafter, though Craig and I had iPhones and Billy and U-boat had to share a Razer
The bell rings but Craig and I donât get up from our seats and one by one students file out of the cafeteria and as time passes all the students are out of the cafeteria but Craig and I are talking and showing each other thing on our phones but as we look around and see that weâre the only ones in the cafeteria forgetting the bell rang fifteen minutes ago so we get up and head to class.

(Craigâs POV)
âThanksâ I said to mr. Harriganâs as he hands me the checks, one for me and one for y/n, I start walking away when Mr. Harriganâs stops me âCraig thereâs something Iâve been meaning to speak with you aboutâ so I walk back into the room âWeâve had this arrangement for a long long time and it strikes me that you are a far different person person, from who you were when we started, even y/n sheâs now a different person, and my question is why do you continue to come here?â He states âDo you want me to stop?â I asked him âNo, no, noâ âThen what?â I said âSurely there are sports clubs and girls who could better occupy your time--â he said and I smiled when he said Girls â--and yet here you are three days a week, why?. Is it out of some sense of obligation.â I stop him âNot at all. No.â âWell, then, why?â He said and I answered with âBecause I enjoy our time together.â And he sighed âWhy?â âI come here because IâŚI like the smell of your books, I come here because I love our talks I come here because, when I read out loud it gives me a sense of power that I donât have outside this room. I come here because I want to. And I canât really hang out with a girl when sheâs busy cause she works hereâ I said and blush and Mr. Harrigan smiles and nods his head âIâll see you Thursdayâ I said and walked out the door and went to find y/n and we left. As we went back to my house to eat dinner, we sat in the living room watching tv with y/n sitting on the chair and my dad and I on the couch and while we were eating I thought of something âI know what I wanna do with the lotto money.â I said and dad looked at me âThat money is going into the college fund like we agreedâ he said âWell, you said most of it was going into the college fund, How often do I buy things?â I said âHardly everâ y/n said and laughed we both look at her and let out a soft chuckle, and dad turns the tv off âAlmost neverâ dad said âWell, I know what I wanna do with the rest of it.â I said and look over at him and he turns the tv back on

After school y/n and I go to the phone store with some of the money I have and start walking to Mr. Harriganâs house and we walk by Pete âAfternoon Peteâ I said and he said afternoon back and we walk towards the door and Edna opens it for us âHi Edna!â Y/n smiled at her âHello girl, Hello boyâ she said and opens the door wider, we went inside âThank youâ I told Edna and we walked towards the back to see Mr. Harrigan. Y/n didnât have to help Edna clean today so she decided to sit in the with us. As we walk into the room we see Mr. Harrigan and he spoke âThere you areâ âMr. Harrigan I brought you somethingâ I replied âI donât need anythingâ he said with a soft laugh and I hand him the bag and he pulls out the phone âThank you, I appreciate the sentiment, But no.â He said and put the phone back into bag âI suggest you give this to your fatherâ I let chuckled when he said that and y/n laughed while being in the green room âCraig, I told you he would say thatâ
âA wise ladyâ he said and looked up at y/n and she looked over and smiled at him and walked over to the desk and pull up the other chair and set next to me âHenry David Thoreau said âWe donât own things. Things own usâ I donât have a television because if I did I would spend my time watching it. I have a radio in the car but I donât have a radio in the house, even though I like a bit of country western from time to time, and if I had that I would waste more time.â He said and I looked over at y/n and I see her looking down playing with her hands with a sad expression on her face with what Mr. Harrigan said and I try and get out of my chair to get the bag âOkay, let me justâŚâ âNo, no, no. Iâm beginning to wish that that scratcher had not been a winnerâ and I hear y/n laugh and I show him my phone âOkay you see these?â And point to my phone âMm-hmmâ he hummed in agreement âThese are called icons and this one is for the stock marketâ and y/n gets up to help as well âI have a subscription to the Wall Street Journal.â Y/n reached over and tapped on the stock market app and said
âRight, but the Wall Street Journal canât do thisâ and showed him the current stocks âAre those numbers in real time?â He asked and I look at him âYep well they might be a minute or two beside I guessâ and he looked amused âIâll be darned I mean itâs like having your own stock ticker, like the magnates used to have in their mansionsâ he said happily âYeah and if you wanna read the Journal or Forbes orâŚor anything like that you canâ and I show him how to get to that âBarton industries, announces closingsâ
he read out loud and hands me my phone and picks up the paper and looks over the page âItâs not in hereâ he said confused âCause thatâs yesterdays you get it a day late. Everybody does, but this, this is todayâsâ I said and looked at him âIâve been arrogant Craig i am going to keep this after all. For a while anywayâ he said âIâm gladâ and I smiled âCould you bring me the phone from the desk?â He said and I chuckled âWell, you can use this to callâ âYes?â âYeah itâs what itâs mostly for you just dial the number that you want. Touch it with your fingersâ and I showed him what to do and what to press âAnd you have four bars.â âBars?â
âCause of the new cell tower⌠never mind.â I said and I heard y/n laugh at me so I didnât have to tell Mr. Harrigan about the bars âIs that better?â âYeah, thatâs goodâ and y/n and I walk back into the green room and we can hear Mr. Harrigan calling someone as we water the plants, some hair get in Y/nâs face when she looks up and I look over and tuck the hair beside her ear and we look into each otherâs eyes and i look down at her lips and back to her eyes and we lean in and our lips lock her lips are soft and i melt against her, my hands finding her waist and resting there drawing her impossibly closer and holding her there with as much care as i can muster and we draw apart "You're beautiful" i tell her, sounding out of breath. She cradles my face and traces the wrinkles around my eyes with her thumbs then presses them into my dimples.

Iâm at hunters house with two other people playing D&D âAnd the Slippers of Spider Climbing go to Malmsteen of Gorgoroth.â He said and painted at Hunter, I hear Mr Sylvester laugh âWhat kind of girlie name is Malmsteen of Gorgoroth?â He asks
âI don't know, Dad. Why don't you ask one of your real housewives while youâre shoving water balloons into there titsâ Hunter snaps back at him, I look at the other members around the table âPlastic surgeon.â so they would understand what they were talking about. I understand, dungeons and dragons even less then metal but itâs a chance for us to hang out with new people, especially for people who can be in our band, if he joins Skullfucker, then weâre a band, right? So then we can play in the Battle of the Bands. If people like us, then maybe theyâll ask us to play at some parties. I hope Hunter likes this guy. Sometimes heâs not so nice to people when heâs uncomfortable and being around, his dad makes him-- âWell, Malmsteen just can't believe that a halfling rogue would be dumb and ungrateful enough to try and rip off a half-orc barbarian who just saved him from five ice toads. But he thinks he'll show mercy.
âUntil he remembers that mercy is for the weak. Malmsteen pulls out Hell Slinger his +3 great sword...â âHunterâ I cut him off â...And he tells Auriac Stormhollow to shut his glory hole before he starts his first attack.â Hunter drops the diceâs on the table making a loud clack âPlus ten, that's a hit-- âHunter, don't be an idiot.â And Hunter continues to ignore me âHe runs the blade between the thief's ribs. Second attack. Uh-oh! There goes the leg. And for the final attack...oh shit! ,Head over to Dr. Sylvester's for some post-op implants, because I just chopped off your dick.â Hunter said that while holding the guys arm and making it look like he was chopping his dick.
âSure, sureâ Mr Sylvester said laughing, âYou just remember that those implants are what paid for your guitar, your incel action figures, and all your dumbass Satan-worship T-shirts!â Mr Sylvester yelled âI'm gonna go play tennis! Have you see my American Express?â Hunter just shrugs and drinks his Mountain Dew and I look at him. The guy I asked to come over gets up and grabs his bag âWhere are you going.â Hunter asks âLeaving. This sucks compared to Call of Duty. Kevin, see you in class.â And he leaves âHunter, we were going to ask him to play bass for us. He says he's pretty good.â Hunter shakes his head âIt's for the best. We can never trust a guy like that.â I look at him pissed why canât he just except the fact that we really need a bass player.

(Scene skip âď¸)
âIâm telling you, sheâs really good.â I said to Hunter but he disagreed âWe need a bass player. A metal bass player.â He told me as we turn down a street âShe can be metal.â I kept trying to persuade him âThatâs the most ridiculous thing Iâve ever heard.â
âWhy? Why is that the most ridiculous thing youâve ever heard?â I asked him âBecause a cello-playing girl is so non-metal that even thinking about it is evaporating my balls.â He said and I look at him confused âA lot of the time, Hunter. I donât know what youâre talking about. Metal, not metalâŚUhâŚMaybe Iâm just not right for Skullfucker.â I said and looked at him before looking back on the road.
Then he stops the car and unbuckled his seatbelt âOkay, switch places with me.â He said and I turn to him âWhat?â And he looked at me âJust do it. Slide over. Open the door, but donât get out.â He told me as I unbuckle my seatbelt and he got out of the car, and I open my door and see Hunter walking towards Skip and I start yelling at Hunter âNo! No, no, no, no. No, no, no, noâ but he kept walking then Hunter reaches Skip and gives him the middle finger âSuck it, cunt.â Then flips him in the chin, and runs to the car while Skip chases him âGo, go! Fuck! Go! Fuck! Fuck! Go, go, go, go, go!â so I get in the driver seat, and Hunter gets in the car and slams the door âWhy? Why did you do that?â I asked him getting worried âTruth to power, bitch! Drive!â And I step on the gas âWhy?â I asked myself quietly and start driving faster due to Skip driving after us âDrive. If he gets close enough, youâve just as fucked as I am.â He told me and I duck down in the seat âYou slow down, you die. Thatâs metal.â
âThat is a dumb Keanu Reeves movie!â I yelled at him and continued driving and trying not to hit any cars âWatch out. Heâll see you in the mirrors if he gets close enough.â So I adjusted the mirror âYouâre an assholeâ I told Hunter and he laughs âOkay. We can shake him. Turn left on Aspenâ and I turn the car but we almost get hit âDonât slow down. Keep going straight.â I feel like Iâm losing my mind âTo where? Where?â I yelled âThere!â Hunter pointed to the narrow alleyway âIâŚWe will not fit in there!â I continue yelling âI know this car!â Hunter yelled as we got closer to the alley and he put his hand on my knee âFucking do it!â And I start to scream âWhoo!â âNo, no, no!â I yelled and Hunter screams maniacally and we finally exit the alley and Hunter turns back to see Skip trying to go through the alleyway, but crashes into the wall.
I understand now. Metal is commitment, and speaking truth to power and sticking it to the man, and speed. âThat was fucking awesomeâ I said to Hunter and let out a sigh. Metal is taking the wheel.

(Scene skip âď¸)
âWhatâs thisâ I ask âHomeworkâ he said well we all look around the room, looking at all the different posters âBlack Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, MotĂśrhead, Guns Nâ Roses, Rage Against the Machine, Pantera, Emperor, Tool, Dio, Mesguggah, Opeth, Slipknot, Mastodon, Lamb of God. This is your history now. Learn it, live it, do lines of it in the bathroomâ Hunter then finally hands me the sheet of music and I look at it. Itâs a list of different songs by different artists. âIâll be working on this. Itâs a solo to âMachineryâ it fucking shreds. I had these made upâ he hand me guitar picks with the words Skullfucker on it, and I put them in my pocket and I say to Hunter âIâll start working on thisâ We do the band handshake. And I walk up the stairs i hear Hunter mess up a note and yell âCocks! Fuck me, okay.â

(Scene skip âď¸)
Iâm in the practice room and Iâm writing down the same songs Hunter wrote for me and rewrote them on a separate sheet for Y/n. Once Iâm done writing everything down I fold the piece of paper and start walking towards the room Y/n was in, then I look at the paper in my hand put, From: Kevin ! On it I donât want to interrupt this time so I slide it underneath the door as soon as I slide it underneath the door I hear her stop playing the cello and I walk away.

I know Hunterâs going to be mad itâs all I thought about as I drive to his house, I felt bad for leaving Y/n after we just spent the last hour and a half together but she said it was okay and she understood an that we can talk later.
Walking downstairs into Hunterâs basement I hear him playing his solo, I spoke loudly over the music out of breathe âI know, I knowâ Hunter stops playing âWe said 6:15. It is now 8:00.â Hunter said clearly pissed âWell, something came upâ I said a little cheekily and smiled âWhat? What came up?â I look at him breathing heavily, I didnât really want to tell him that Y/n and I slept together cause I knew that if I didnât he would be even more pissed âNothingâ I told him âI thought it was something. You said it was somethingâ he started o question me, I look at him
âWell, I was wrong. It was nothingâ âI can imagine something being more important than a band practice. Actually, I canât. But I definitely canât see how nothing could be more important, Kevin.â Y/n is, I pick up my drum sticks and I think he getting sceptical so I hesitate âWell, nothing is more important. Or nothing isnât more important. What I mean--â âI donât need Abbott and Costello from you, okay? I need a drummer. A real drummer. Metal is commitment, Kevin. Itâs dedication, sacrifice, mortification of the flesh and all that shit. Itâs serious. And if youâre not gonna be, if youâll be all âgirls with cello, showing up whatever I feel like it,â then this isnât gonna work. And we wonât win the Battle of the Bands, and then youâre gonna be a loser for the rest of your life.â I stare blankly at him after what he just said, I clench my jaw, he stares back at me before turning around and he continues playing his guitar, I give him a sarcastic smile and grab my stuff and head up the stairs.

Scene skip âď¸
Iâm in the practice room at the school the next day with Y/n as has her headphones working on practicing her cello. As I have my headphones in playing counting one, two, three, four over and over again, I start playing aggressively think about what happened last night with Hunter. I donât see Clay walk in.
âHey. Hey! Hey!â I stopped playing as I finally hear Clay shouting after playing aggressively I start panting âOh. Heyâ moving my hair out of my face âHi.â Y/n stops playing, looking up as well, then looking at me, then back to Clay wondering what he was doing here. âWhere did you guys learn how to play?â He asked the both of us âUhâŚI donât knowâ âSince I was littleâ Y/n and I said at the same time then we chuckle
âMy friend gave me these songs, and I practiced them. I not, you know, a real drummer or anything.â I said still out of breath, Clay and Y/n both turn their heads at me âAre you fucking high? That was intense.â he said with enthusiasm âYeah, Kev that was awesomeâ Y/n said in the same tone âYeah?â I asked and Y/n nodded her head and grabs my hand in hers.
âHave you two got a minute?â Clay looked back and forth between the two of us Y/n and I look at each other then we nod our heads going into the cafeteria, Y/n and I sharing the headphones listening to Shape Of You, tapping my fingers against my leg to the beat of the song with the rest of Clayâs band standing around us. We take out the headphones, look at Clay and his friends âAre they all like this? Just pretty much the same beat all the way through?â I asked
âYeahâ âPretty muchâ they agreed âPlease Kevin, Y/n, I promised my sister, and sheâs so psyched to have us play. But Rayâs not getting out of rehab for another month, and weee tired of playing with a waste drummer.â âYeah, manâ âFuck that dummyâ Clayâs friends added âWe would like to, but itâs like I said, Iâm in this band with Hunter, and Battle of the Bands is really important to him. And Y/n kinda does her does own thingâ I stated
âLots of guys are in two bandsâ one of the guys said âEric Clapton was in, like, 60 bands.â The other one said âAnd I heard you two play, man. You could learn our songs in ten minutesâ Y/n and I smile slightly âDonât even worry about the Battle of the Bands for now, just my sisters wedding.â I sighed âLet us think about it.â And nod my head âI feel you. But the weddings this weekend, so donât think too long.â

Y/nâs POV
Kevin and I want back to my house, Kevin told me about last night with Hunter and how upset he is about the situation. Once Kevin walks around my room he looks at all my little knickknacks on my dresser and desk before we sit on my bed, I take Kevinâs glasses off starting a starring contest after a couple of minutes of starring in Kevin hazel eyes I have a big smile on my face and tilt my head, Kevinâs eyes start to water and he blinks, âFuckâ he whispered âYou blinkedâ I laugh at him
âI blunkâ âYou blunkâ I said with my accent we start laughing âThree out of five?â I asked him still looking him in the eyes âIâm pretty sure youâre better at staring than meâ Kevinâs puts his glasses back on âMm-hmmâ i hummed and pecked his cheek, I see Kevin looking behind me and I turn to look as well, I see him looking at my meds on my nightstand âThose your meds?â He asked lowly
âMm-hmm. My happy pills.â I flick them over not wanting to see them anymore they clatter to the ground and chuckle âDonât you need more?â He asked me seriously âMm-mmâ i shake my head no and a idea comes to mind, I lay down on my bed
âLay on top of meâ he looks at me, rises his eyebrows before chuckling, I adjust my legs so he can lay in between them, I have my arm close to my chest. He lays on top of me face to face, careful not to crush me, he leans in trying to kiss me but I squeak âNot yet.â He nods his head ever so slightly i grab his hand and hold it close to mine âLetâs just, um, lie like this. I like it. Makes me feelâŚsmooshedâ I play with the collar of his shirt âOn the field when I saw youâŚâ
âYeah.â I whispered âDid it feelâŚgood to throw stuff and yell at people?â I look up at the ceiling embarrassed then back at him âNo. Feels good to not want to throw stuff and yell at peopleâ I look at him, he looks at my lips then my eyes âYour my happy pillâ I look into his eyes. I kiss him and he smiles and then I wrap my legs around his waist and arms around his neck pulling him in a big bear hug resting his head in my chest and then he pulls his head up and starts kissing all over my face.
