Years before the covid pandemic began, author Naomi Kritzer wrote the charming, emotionally genuine short story "So Much Cooking," which was a pandemic log through the eyes of a cooking blog. The premise is that the author is a home cooking blogger raising her kids, and then a pandemic hits--and bit by bit she's feeding not only her own, but her sister's kids, some neighbors' kids, and so on, in a situation of pandemic lockdown and food shortages.
It's very good, and was prescient for a lot of the early days of the covid pandemic. I found myself returning to it often in the first couple of years because of how steadfast it was in its hopefulness.
Last year she wrote a novelette, "The Year Without Sunshine," which attacks a similar problem in a similar way; instead of pandemic, this one is about the aftereffects of a distant nuke or a massive volcano explosion (it doesn't say), which has churned a great deal of dust into the air, causing massive damage to society and agriculture. The story covers one neighborhood, pulling together to keep each other alive--not through violence, but through lawn potatoes and message pinboards and bicycle-powered oxygen concentrators.
I recommend both stories. They're uplifting in a way that a lot of what I see lately isn't. They're a bit of a panacea for constant fearmongering about intracommunity violence and grinding hatefulness. We can be good to each other, if we try.

we'll make it up as we go along.. đ

I recently taken an interest in Tintin (being French, I surprisingly didn't grow up with those stories) and the similarities would not stop piling up ! A young redhead, throwing himself into danger and always being hit on the head; and his little fearless white companion who is always saving his best friend butt... let's say I immediately took a liking to our boy reporter who is just... Cal if he was Belgian.
I liked the challenge of recreating HergĂŠ's style !

Aegon the conqueror inverted. đ
Or, none of the Targs in ASOIAF ever fight and they all get married and live happily ever after.
About the kiddos.
So In this universe I think Danny probably married Aegon first, because he would have already had the iron throne. Jon wasnât in the picture when Rhae would have been conceived. So everyone at least knows for sure that Rhaenys is Aegonâs.
Rhaenys is pretty much her namesake/aunt come again. Sheâs a spitfire and always getting herself into mischief. Sheâs Aegonâs pride and joy, and Dannyâs eternal headache.
Visenya is the second oldest, but itâs a little unclear time wise whoâs her father. Danny and Jon didnât get along at first when they first got married, and it seemed they only really slept together out of âdutyâ. It was only after Visenya was born that Jon and Danny actually started falling for each-other, at the urging of Aegon who was getting annoyed with the both of them and all their pent up sexual frustrations.
Elaena, is the curious middle child. Sheâs the spitting image of Danny. And a quiet little toddler who spends most of her time nuzzled against Ghostâs fur. Like Visenya, no one is exactly sure who her father is, either Jon or Aegonâ but in private both king consorts quietly boast they are in fact her father.
The only boy, and Jonâs only âconfirmedâ heir is Aemon, who was conceived whilst Aegon was away with negotiations in Essos. He is evidently a Stark in blood, and looks just like a young Jon. Heâs a sullen, soft little toddler who prefers not to speak much. Thankfully for him, his three older sisters make talking rather pointless. Obviously there is the implied issue of his birthright, as the only boy against Rhaenys, the eldest daughter. But with a boy so young, and a queen regnant ruling Westeros, the issue isnât quite a priority just yet.

People have been asking for a Chang timeline post! Chang not only represents a turning point in the politics of the Tintin series, he also represents a sense of chronology in the otherwise floating timeline of the canon. While Tintin almost never discusses his past, Chang is a key part of his personal story in Tintin in Tibet.
I imagine him and Tintin being around the same age, with Chang being a few months younger.

You know what? 'Nother AU
Haddock is not a "descendant" of Sir Francis but rather the youngest of his three sons. The French revolution has started, he's the last member of the family alive, and had to leave the manor and flee the country.
Tintin is a writer for one of the popular newspapers, but they're quickly steaming towards the full on Reign of Terror and he spoke out about it. So now if he goes back he'll probably lose his head.

I remember discussing Tintin casting choices with a friend from Germany and remarked how it was odd he often has an English accent in adaptations rather than a Belgian one, and my friend just replied "that's because Tintin gives incredibly strong English boy energy (derogatory)"
Here in the UK there's a lot of weird classism tied into accents. Today accent diversity and representation in broadcasting is actively pursued but in Tintin's time there certainly was a preferred accent to have.
imagine this exchange happens between pages 28-29 in The Crab with the Golden Claws

I decided to redraw one of my earliest Tintin fancomics! I've been drawing Tintin fanart for a bit before I started posting online.
I can imagine Tintin having a tumultuous relationship with his editor, hardly ever being in the office and having a very low rate of writing articles. Tintin's increasingly liberal politics also clash with the newspaper's conservative values. Tintin and his editor frequently argue over this but Tintin almost always wins out, as he is aware that it is his articles that sell the paper. His editor is reluctant to let go of his golden goose.
More headcanon under the Read More! It's background stuff and things about his editor.
Tintin started his journalism career at just 14, and seeing the dangerous situations he is sent into in his early stories suggests to me that whoever hired him didn't have his best interests at heart. I can imagine his editor taking advantage of Tintin's ambition and naivety, while styling himself as a sort of father figure to the newspaper he runs. I based him off of the editor we see at the very start of Tintin in the Land of the Soviets!

His editor hires him after Tintin demonstrates remarkable skills in investigative journalism, uncovering local corruption for his school paper. He takes advantage of Tintin's naivety, sending him off to various countries to write conservative propaganda pieces for the paper. He hopes Tintin will be easy to groom into a conservative pundit, but after witnessing atrocities and coming into contact with people from different walks of life, Tintin finds himself unlearning a lot of harmful beliefs he was raised with. After he earns global recognition in Tintin in America, Tintin leverages his star power to ensure less editorial interference with his work. His journey away from conservatism is kickstarted upon befriending Chang, who directly challenges a lot of his preconceptions.
Tintin stays with the paper under the misguided belief that he can steer the publication in a better direction with his influence. Deep down he also feels he owes his editor, as it was him who gave Tintin a platform and an oppurtunity to escape his situation, being raised in an orphanage and being deeply unhappy in school. His editor also frequently points out that other papers will not be as lenient with his low turnover rate of articles, and that he's lucky he's still with them.
After Tintin gets Chang a job there as his photographer, Chang ends up befriending a lot of the staff. He's one of the few non white staff members there, which causes quite the stir. While Chang is grateful for the job, he becomes increasingly uncomfortable with working for them the more he learns about the paper. He tells Tintin that by staying there, he's only legitimising the publication.
Tensions at the paper start rising as political tension rises in Europe. Tintin, Chang, and a lot of staff notice their editor acting erratically and making strange demands...

I decided to clean up an old comic of mine! A thirty something year old Tintin reflects on his childhood with Chang.
