can people stop saying that light didn’t feel any guilt about his murders? it’s literally canon that he had horrible nightmares that made him lose sleep and he lost ten pounds in five days because of the guilt of becoming a murderer. like, before he got swept up in the battle with L, he still felt guilty for killing those people. sure, he didn’t care as much later on, but you can’t deny that he started out as a naive seventeen year old who can barely come to terms with his own crimes.

sometimes I get rly sad thinking about that fact that if light knew his amnesiac self would doubtlessly oppose kira, he knew that there was a very good & reasonable part of himself that did & just refused to face it because of the guilt that it would bring. next level cognitive dissonance my guy

something something something the yotsuba arc as a play-within-the-play about death note as a whole because at heart death note is about a boy who dooms himself to die, on purpose, then fails to remember that he has to actually walk the path and die the death. he forgets he’s going to be there the whole time. or he just doesn’t care, because he sees himself as a chess piece and not as a person. sending the lamb of himself off the slaughter, refusing to realize he won’t be able to consume the meat. selflessness as cruelty rather than a virtue.

Rewatching Death Note, and I feel like we collectively kind of downplay the horror Light must have felt when he first killed someone. Like, he’s seventeen, he’s done the equivalent of passing on chainmail (whilst doing the due diligence of writing down a murderer’s name as well), only it’s actually killed someone. Like imagine if you reposted one those ‘repost this or you die’ instagram posts when you were a teenager and one of the people that followed you actually died. Obviously doesn’t justify all the shit homeboy did afterwards, but like. Yikes
