A one panel comic titled "Auctober" and subtitled "11. Unlearning Ableism". Honeydew hugs themself as they say "I'm not stupid. I'm not lazy. I'm not a burden. I'm disabled. And that's okay."

Day 11 of Auctober!

Internal ableism is so hard to unlearn. It's a big part of my self esteem issues.

You're not a burden. You're not a disappointment. You're not a mistake. You are awesome!

Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us, and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.

A four panel comic of Honeydew talking about communication. The comic is titled "Au-Tea Talk" and is made by Theresa Scovil. Panel 1: Honeydew is holding a mug that they're pulling a teabag out of. A small spoon sits in the mug. Honeydew says "It's a common belief that autistics have trouble with communication." Panel 2: Honeydew uses the small spoon to stir their tea. Honeydew says "But I think it's more that autistics have trouble communicating like neurotypicals. Panel 3: Honeydew taps the spoon on the rim of the mug with a "Tink tink tink" sound. Honeydew says "Personally, I've had less problems communicating with other autistics than with neurotypicals. Panel 4: Honeydew says "But that's just me" and sips their tea.

Neurotypicals determined what good communication looked like then deemed anyone who didn't communicate like them as poor at communication.

It really irks me because I'm good at communicating provided I'm allowed to communicate in the way that's most comfortable to me.

Autistic sensory issues aren't just "this bothers and annoys me", it's very often much closer to "my brain is responding to this sensory input as if it's causing me physical pain." And that's why we often genuinely can't just ignore it and get used to it.

"But landlords have expenses too."

I don't care. Not even a little.

They could easily just choose not to be a landlord. Then, they wouldn't have those expenses.

You hoard a resource that people need to survive so you can profit, and I'm supposed to show you sympathy when that profit is not as much as you would like?

Text at the top say "July is Disability Pride Month." Honeydew looks excited as they hold a disability pride flag in each hand. The flag has streaks of faded green, blue, white, yellow and red on a grey background.

July is Disability Pride Month!

A disability is nothing to be ashamed of. We deserve the same respect, rights, love and happiness as everyone else. We live in an unaccommodating world and we should work together to change that! Let's band together, Disabled and Proud!

idk man. i just think itd be really cool if sign language classes were mandatory throughout primary school. yeah because it would make communication with deaf kids and autistic/nonverbal kids much easier. and those kids would be accessible to the others so they could make friends and have healthy relationships. yeah. and kids would eat that shit up man. like their own little secret language? they love that.

Can we talk for a moment about how lonely being autistic is? Nobody sees what you see. Nobody hears what you hear. What resonated with you doesn't resonate with anyone else.

Craving connection and nobody can know you.

A six panel comic of Honeydew explaining some reasons as to why autistic people are tired. The comic is titled "Sick and Tired" and is made by Theresa Scovil. Panel 1: Honeydew says to the audience "Here are some reasons as to why autistic people are always tired." Panel 2: Honeydew looks very tired as they lay in bed. Narration says "Insomnia." Panel 3: Honeydew has a smiling mask on as Narration says "Constant Masking." Panel 4: Honeydew hunches over, eyes closed and ears covered, as loud sounds come at them from all directions. Narration says "Sensory Overload." Panel 5: Honeydew looks sad as they sit on the couch thinking "Just move. Just do something. Just get up." Narration says "Executive Dysfunction." Panel 6: Honeydew looks away, angry, as people from off screen yell "Look me in the eye!" "Stop fidgeting!" "R*tard!" "You need to be cured!" Narration says "Ableism."

Being autistic can be tiring, but most of the time it's not the autism that tires me, it's living in an unaccommodating world that's exhausting.

No no you don't understand! I want to watch this show/movie, read this book, listen to this podcast, etc.! But I must be in the right mindset and the exact head space to begin, or I just can't!
