To any fic writers who worry they are wasting their time... I read a fic for a relatively small and inactive fandom about three years ago. And there was one specific scene where a character watched another dancing like an idiot to a beyonce song and it was so sweet and loving that even now years later I have that song on one of my spotify playlist so every once in a while it will play and remind me of that fic, and every time it does I smile and feel a little happier.

The stats on a fic will never really tell you if your writing touched someone. There's no numerical way to show you what impact you made. Maybe you are wasting time, or maybe you are writing something that someone will remember for a long time, something that will never fail to make them smile.

“Can you promise me something,” Chan asks as the two of you lay together, curled up in the tiny hospital bed.

“Anything.”

Chan releases a shaky exhale, bringing one of his hands up to brush against the skin of your cheek.

''Promise me you'll be happy. That you'll love again.”

“Chan—,” you start but he quickly cuts you off.

“Please.”

His tone is desperate, eyes filled with tears as he looks down at you.

Your own mirroring his as you are reminded of the inevitable.

“How can I ever love anyone else?”

Chan’s thumb swipes at a tear that escapes your eye, a deep sadness rooted in his features.

“I want you to be happy without me. I want you to live life to the fullest for me. I want you to fall in love again and get the happy ending that you deserve.”

“But you are my happy ending,” you whispered as your hands clutched onto the fabric of his hospital gown.

“I’m afraid I can’t be that for you anymore my love.”

The two of you hold each other while you cry. Chan presses wet kisses to your forehead as your tears stain his gown.

“I-I’ll try for you,” you find yourself voicing after awhile.

“But just know that I can never love anyone more than I love you.”

Chan’s arms tighten around you ever so slightly.

“You deserve to love and be loved. I get to die knowing I was loved—not just by anyone—but by you. No matter where life takes you, just know that I’ll always be there beside you.”
