Introducing Ardis Akiya-Blair
Introducing Ardis Akiya-Blair
Class: Fall 2022
Ring: Mir
Now, Ardis Akiya-Blair is an interesting person. Similar to our lovely friend Kal, he received a letter of acceptance from Evenfall University as well. Though, unlike our Kal, he had not been as confident nor dedicated to a school. The tugging desire swept him up quickly and he accepted his admission quickly. So, sadly, no tales of how he was convinced for us tonight but I wouldn’t want to leave you without a good story! Let’s see, what could we talk about?
How about this? It has all people usually want in their stories, some interest, and intrigue. Ardis is a dancer and a quite good one at that. It seems like we have a creative bunch here, looking at Ardis, Kal, and the other student we have on the books. Anyways, we’ll leave the discussion of the others for their chats, this is when Ardis gets a chance to shine, after all! It appears that he doesn’t get it often enough, as it is.

"Whoa! That's a lot of Library"

Binging my way through Saga, Paper Girls and Runaways thanks to my interlibrary loans. Finally getting through the series that would have bankrupt me if I had actually gone out to buy all these!!
🤣🤣 Apparently I have a type too, cause only now did I realize all 3 of these are from writer Brian K. Vaughan.
Paper Girls: 80s era girls are time traveling through an increasingly confusing singular time line. I'm still wondering if they're the ones who messed things up to begin with. But the adults do plenty to make things worse.
Runaways: Kids realize their parents are actually, literally evil super villians and try to escape their hold and make the world better for it, but can you really escape your DNA inheritance? I love the breadth of the super villian family: magicians, time travelers, criminal masterminds, aliens, mutants. Got it all!
Saga: Soldiers from opposite sides fall in love and have a baby while still on the run and now they have to run faster cause their union and child go against the war narrative, and can topple the entire decade long civil war. Meanwhile the parents just want to live a quiet life. It's beautiful and heart-full but real and doesn't pull punches. It's what I want art to be: characters who've gone through some shit, still are, but none of them have lost their heart. Something turns that heart back on and makes them someone I want to watch and listen to, evil or good. Rated R, I'm sure tho.
Meanwhile, I usually say it's the art style that grabs me in and keeps me. Each one has a different style, but all bold, colorful, distinctive. A ton of creative aliens in the Saga scifi, which reminds you each time, there is an infinite amount of diversity in space. The glowing alien in Runaways, and the distinctly synth ridden 80s color palette that falls perfectly into the past and future. Lighting is such a draw on all of them, directional and evening haze. Y'all just have to look for yourselves honestly.

Kalavathi Nayri
Ring: Brees Major: Computer Science/Graphic Design Class: Fall 2022
Receiving the acceptance letter from Evenfall University was an odd occasion for the young Kalavathi Nayri. Originally she had, unsurprisingly, written off the letter as some type of scheme. Her plans were already quite set in stone in her opinion. All she needed, or rather wanted, was the acceptance to UCSD, then life would proceed as planned.
However, as we all know, life prefers its own plans and Kalavathi found herself drawn to reading the acceptance letter over and over again. Her parents hadn’t heard of the academy, yet were enticed by the luxurious grants offered.
Kalavathi herself was struggling to deny the desire encouraging her to accept the offer and disappear into the splendid mystery of Evenfall University. As we all know, the University is exactly what she desired, and Kalavati Nayri would fit in perfectly. Don’t believe me? Well, then, allow me to tell you a little about her. Surely that will convince you.
