US Centrism Is Incredible. You Write Something About The History Of Your Country That Faced Some Oppression
US centrism is incredible. You write something about the history of your country that faced some oppression from its neighbours and you get (sometimes seemingly well meaning) USamericans all yelling "me!me!me! What about the oppression WE did? The most important oppression ever, we are THE worst, that is what must be talked about!" And it's literally silencing the voices and experiences of those whose history was NOT related to those very specific US policies. It's still a form of imperialism, too, by the way, stealing voices and agency from others for the sake of your own main character syndrome.

What really makes me mad is the double standards of the Western media that tell the tragic story of two dead Russians (who were on the occupied territory of the other country during the war), show their photos, say their names. BUT then report the everyday losses of Ukraine by simply stating the number of casualties. At best it is mentioned that it was a man or a woman who died. Those Ukrainians that die every day and night when the cities are shelled and bombed by Russians, those that die of tortures in Russian captivity - newsflash - they were people. Civilians with their own plans and hopes.
Western media sources turn us into numbers, dehumanize us, give the audience an idea that our deaths are not something to worry about too much. But that poor couple that was crossing a bridge - a strategic object, on the territory of Ukraine that was lawlessly annexed by their fellow citizens - their death should be depicted as a personal tragedy everywhere, that's for sure.
By the way, maybe Western media would also like to show a few photos of that Russian couple on the Victory Day marches, with St George's Ribbons? Because these would be a perfect exposure of "not all russians" bullshit.
Im gonna shuffle my giant playlist of every song i like and if the very first one that plays isnt exactly what i want to hear right this second im gna lose it
