Fuck I forgot I saw this
How I feel about this character
-> Ling's a silly guy. A skrunkly even. I put him up there with, like, Wrath 03 in terms of liking.
-> I honestly really like his clothing, they're bright and eye catching in the good ways. That's what originally drawn me to him when I first watched brotherhood. He's also the reason I recently got back into the FMA fandom and FMA in general!!
-> I'd let him eat me out of house and home.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
-> EDLING!!! *BANG BANG BANG* EDLING!!! I love Edling, him and Ed live in my head rent free. Their relationship is just.. It's like stealing a shopping cart from Shoppers and riding it down a big hill into on coming traffic, somehow missing all the cars, and then the cart falls over randomly, and you fall out. Just, fucking dead. That's Edling to me. I want to blow them up and I want to just JEVSNS idk I want them DEAD. (Can't you tell how sane I am about Edling?)
My non-romantic OTP for this character
-> LinFan, (is that the ship name?). They're siblings your honor. Ling and LanFan have mlm and wlw solidarity. They're so silly, but LanFan is probably like an overprotective sister for him. (Not probably, that's just how she is actually.)
-> Honestly? Fucking Ling and Al. We, as a Fandom, talk about how Ed and Ling are chaotic as fuck. LING AND AL WOULD BE AN UNSTOPPABLE FORCE IF THEY BECAME BFFS!! (If you ship them, then that's even worse/pos)
-> Greedling. I already talked about this on my Greed post thing, but I'm gonna say it here too. They're soul brothers, they brothers, cousins, whatever. They're related and that's just a fact.
My unpopular opinion about this character
-> Ling's smarter than y'all give him credit for. (Yes, he will probably eat anything and he might not know some things due to culture differences, but that doesn't make him dumb.) He has more street smarts after fighting for 15 years of his life to survive, but he's also smart in terms of politics and stuff because he's *FUCKING TRYING TO RULE HIS HOME COUNTRY!!!!*
-> Ling is fucking iconic, no I won't elaborate.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
-> I wish he was in 03. I wish I could've been able to see how they would've done the Xingese cast (I bet they would've done amazing, I love 03).
-> Speaking of 03; I wish that he could've met Wrath 03. Rip Wrath, you probably would've hated Lung Yao (or they worse, they would've been friends...)
-> Uhh idk what else to put. I need to rewatch bh still.

đ âWhiskers twitch, the eyes shut, itâs too much. ; Chapter 3
Ross stood now in front of the land-line, looking down at it nervously. She had just woken up Sergeant Brosh, who simply hummed and went to sleep on the couch without question, promptly going to sleep as soon as he made himself comfortable on the couch. Havoc had already taken Ed out of the bathroom, presumably after cleaning him in some way given how he had tracked water leading all the way from the bathroom up the steps. So now, Ross found herself there. Standing, her fingers unconsciously thrumming against the side table she stood next to, her forefinger pressing then retracting against the wood, then her middle finger, ring finger, pinky, all pulling back before starting up again.
Thump ⌠Thump ⌠Thump ⌠Thump ⌠Thump ⌠Thump ⌠Thump ⌠Thump ⌠Thumpâ
She paused, her fingers twitching momentarily as to continue the steady rhythm, before sighing; Shifting her weight from one foot to the other, her left hip moving down more whereas her right moved upward, one hand grasping the handset while the other moved to begin dialing the numbers. Ross had gotten the number to Izumi and Sig Curtisâ meat shoppe in Dublith back when Edward first went missing, having been told to call if anything about Ed was found out. The same thing was told to Edwardâs commanding officer, major Armstrong, and lieutenant colonel Hughes. The phone rang softly, and she thankfully didnât have to wait long before a voice picked up on the other side.
â âCall again in the morning, the shop's closed for the night.â
A deep voice answered the phone, though it wasnât clear if he was annoyed or upset. His voice was monotone, gruff sounding, belonging to none other than Sig Curtis himself. Ross was quick to answer, before he could hang up on her.Â
âI need to talk to Alphonse, uh, sir.â She said, earning a small hum on the other end; The man, although not visible to her, seemed surprised by her interjection. There was silence for a good few moments, before the same voice spoke again.
â âWho is this?âÂ
Ross swallowed slightly nervously, before letting out a small chuckle. Weak sounding, but as to show she wasnât a threat of any kind. In a sense, at least.Â
âSecond Lieutenant Maria Ross, sir, I apologize for not introducing myself at first.â Her voice was slightly weary for already messing up, her gut shifting uncomfortably as silence, again, came from the other side of the line. She didnât hear the dial tone, but for a few moments she thought he had hung up on her; Or, that was before a young, tinny voice emitted from the phone.Â
â âLieutenant Ross? Why are you calling? Did you find brother?â
Alphonse asked from the line, sounding anxious and confused. But at the same time he sounded excited at the prospect of his older brother being found at last. Ross couldnât help the small smile on her face that blossomed from his voice, a sweet one.Â
âI can say for certain that Havoc found him, we have him at my house, Al, butââ Ross started, only to be cut off by a gasp on the other end. Clearly from Alphonse, as she could hear his armor shifting against itself with his movements on the other end.Â
â âYou did?! Iâll book a train right away, how is he? Is he ok? Does he know that Iâm ok?â
Al interrupted, frantically, the questions almost all coming out as gibberish due to how fast he was spewing them. He sounded happy, excited and grateful, but at the same time there was a lingering nervousness. He was a child, yes, but that didnât mean he was spared from knowing the horrors of what could happen to just about anyone. â That would include his brother, but that was only a small part of him that thought of that. His brother couldnât die after all, he would never let that happen! And if he was found, then that meant he was safe. He was safe and he wouldnât be able to get hurt. Especially once he got there. â Ross made a weary sound, akin to a soft sigh, deciding to change up what she was going to originally say.Â
âHeâs.. Well, heâs alive. I havenât gotten the best look at him but he didnât look injured. Havocâs taking care of him now, we still have to notify everyone else that heâs here.â She admitted calmly, her voice firm enough to keep Alphonse from interrupting her again; Almost like a stern parent in a sense. Ross had, of course, lied about not getting a good look at Ed. She had seen his new.. Animalistic appearance, deeming that it was a conversation to have with Alphonse once he was there, in person â in soul, in his case â and able to see Ed for himself.Â
â âI could probably do those calls for you second lieutenant, youâre probably getting tired.â
A kind offer, not an odd suggestion coming from the younger Elric. So, she sighed. As much as she wanted to refute, he was a kid who needed not to deal with such adult things, Ross couldnât deny the exhaustion she felt in her bones from simply looking at Edward. In his new being. With his fur, and claws, and scutes, and ears, and snout.
âVery well, just tell colonel Mustang and his team to come to my home tomorrow when youâll be here. Maybe not major Armstrong.. Iâll get a hold of lieutenant colonel Hughes on my end.â Ross said, a compromise really as Alphonse wouldnât be held up calling so many people. Though she was sure that heâd only call colonel Mustang, maybe Lieutenant Hawkeye. To her suggestion, Alphonse hummed through the line, the creaking of metal could be heard so Ross assumed that he was nodding.Â
â âOk! Is there anything else I should know? Or tell should I tell colonel Mustang specifically?âÂ
Alphonse sounded slightly impatient, though nevertheless excited at the mere idea he would be able to see his older brother. He failed to mention how he was most definitely going to be taking a train to Central as soon as he was off the phone with the colonel. Ross didnât need to know after all.Â
The two only spoke for a few moments longer, exchanging their farewells, and then hanging up simply. All the way in Dublith, on the other side of the now hung up line, Alphonseâs gauntlet gripped the receiver somewhat tightly as he set it down, the soft glow emitting from the sockets of his helmet watching his glove for only a moment, only to raise the gauntlet holding the handset up to his helmet again. Pausing as though to take a non-existent breath before beginning to dial colonel Mustangâs home phone. He hesitated halfway through, as though to figure out if he should even involve the colonel.
Roy Mustang was kind to him and his brother, even if he did constantly get into childish arguments with Ed, and act snarky in multiple ways. And make Ed dread coming to report back to him on the missions he assigned him. Colonel Mustang helped him when it came to supposed leads on not only the Philosopher's Stone, but also on Edwardâs disappearance. He was one of the few, including his team, Alphonse himself, Armstrong, Ross, Brosh, and Hughes, who believed Ed to still be alive. Even after weeks turned into months. Several long months, months that Alphonse searched through. Day and night, his armored vessel didnât need to rest. So he didnât rest. Even after his armor began to rust uncomfortably and grime began to build up and up.Â
He only stopped when he came across his Teacher and her husband, who had been looking for him and his brother after hearing that Ed became a damned dog of the military, after hearing about the accident in Lab 5. After hearing about his brotherâs disappearance. Izumi had taken him in, or rather forced him to stay at the meat shoppe and argued or fought with him whenever he insisted he had to go, and let him take some time to reevaluate the situation. To comprehend a course of action or a plan on how to find Ed. Alphonse felt guilt for not being the one to have found Ed, but he was really relieved that he was found at all.Â
Alphonse sighed, the sound soft but with a light echo inside of his armor. Emitting from the blood written array that bonded his soul to the armor. He finished clicking the numbers, drawing his gauntlet back as he waited for Mustang to hopefully pick up. It took a moment, his armor shifting uncomfortably as he waited, before a tired, exasperated but familiar voice came through the other side of the line.
â âHello? Who is this?â
Mustang asked with an impatient tone, Alphonse could practically see the way his face would show only the slightest bit of irritation. It didnât calm his non-existent nerves.
âAh, hello colonel Mustang! Itâs me, Alphonse. I, uh. Lieutenant Ross called me just a few minutes ago and, uh, I was wondering..â He trailed off nervously, shifting his weight from one armored leg to the other, the metal groaning softly as he stood there. Mustang didnât speak just yet, waiting for Al to go on. Say what he needed to.Â
âShe told me Havoc found Ed. Earlier, she said he and Lieutenant Havoc are at her house, she said he was fine. But I didnât speak to him myself, and I didnât talk to Lieutenant Havoc either.â Al continued, rambling, his words coming out much quicker than he intended them to, causing them to overlap slightly. He didnât have vocal cords, nor did he have lips that could trip up and ruin his speech or slow his words; So they came out quick and jumbled, like a stampede of sorts. Thankfully, though, the colonel seemed to have caught everything he said.
â âHavoc? But heâ Oh that bastard..â
Mustang grumbled, sighed through the phone, sounding confused at first before it led way to exasperation.Â
â âYou said theyâre at her house? Iâm guessing youâll be coming, are the Curtisâ coming with you?â
Mustang eventually asked in a more calculating tone; Alphonse hummed and nodded, though Mustang couldnât see. His armor creaked with the movement, not too obnoxiously but loud enough to be heard through the phone.Â
âYeah, Iâll be there in the afternoon at the latest with teacher and Sig. Iâll call you from a payphone when I get to Central.â Alphonse said, earning a hum of acknowledgement. The two exchanged a few more words before the colonel hung up, stating he needed to call and inform the rest of his team and wished Al a safe trip. Alphonse hung up, another sigh escaping him; He set down the phone against the receiver and went to tell Izumi and Sig the news. That Ed was safe and alive, and that they needed to get on the next train that went into the Central city.

đ â The claws of a boy, grasp onto what it was. ; Chapter 2
Havoc wasnât able to pry Edward out of his arms, so he had to drive on with the boy in his lap; Thankfully hidden for the most part due to the white clothing that he was draped in, which became all the more apparent to being a long coat of sorts. The sleeves used to tie Edwardâs detached automail arm to his back, where it sat limply â or as limply a metal limb could get â , looked thick and bulky despite nothing being in them. Regardless, Ed had been mostly silent on the drive. Only making a small raspy noise when the car was to run over a bump or turn a street corner too tightly.Â
Thankfully the drive wasnât too long, though it was a place that Havoc had only been to once; He couldnât head to the military barracks, even though thatâs where his dorm, as well as Edâs old dorm, was. So, he headed to a person he knew would be safe. Other than the rest of Team Mustang, as he knew that any sort of reunion with them would be emotionally overwhelming â on both sides really.Â
âAlright, weâre here. Just hold on a secâ longer big guy.â Havoc murmured, parking the car on the side street before opening the door; Sticking his leg out of the car as his hand moved and pulled the keys out of the ignition, pocketing them, before getting a better hold on Edward. Who just grunted quietly, his clawed hand gripping onto Havocâs blue uniform jacket tighter. The dirty blonde soon got himself out of the car, using his booted foot to shut the door as he adjusted the bundle of Ed in his arms; Keeping him entirely hidden from view as he walked along the sidewalks. He left Edâs detached automail arm in the car, as he figured there was no reason to carry it around. It wasnât like he knew how to reattach it. Or if it was even in good enough condition to do so safely, but by the looks of it; It seemed out of commission.
It only took another moment before Havoc ascended a few steps and stood on a porch that was unfamiliar to the still somewhat out of it Elric in his arms. He moved, putting one arm on the lower part of where he held Ed while raising the other and balling his hand into a fist. Turning his hand, and using his knuckles to gently knock against the wooden door he stood in front of.Â
ââS just Second Lieutenant Havoc, we need to talk.â He drawled, just loud enough for whoever was on the other side of the door to hear him clearly, moving his free hand away from the door as he put it into his pocket, fishing around in it before pulling out a small, cardboard box. With a simple swipe of his thumb, he pushed open the top of the box; Raising it to his mouth, and using his lips to pull out a cigarette. As he pulled it away, shut it and slipped it back into the safety of his pocket, the door opened. Havoc smiled, apologetically, keeping the butt of the cigarette clenched between his teeth. In front of him stood a very confused looking Maria Ross, her eyes looking between Havoc and the bundle of.. Well, she might not have known it to be Ed.Â
Ed knew it was her though, even if he wasnât looking at Ross; He could just tell. It couldâve been his sense of smell â she smelled warm, like the tulips mom used to grow just out front of the house and like a summer breeze, it reminded him of his mom, and it made him calm but antsy at the same time â couldâve been the specific way she sighed, like she did back when she had tried to comfort he and Alphonse before they snuck out to figure out what the hell was up with Lab 5. The boy shifted in Havocâs hold, making a small, raspy sound as he tried to uncover his face and look for himself; Though his hold on Havoc didnât lessen, so it just seemed that he was wiggling around impatiently.
Before Ed could reveal himself, and before Ross could question just what it was Havoc was carrying, the man pushed past Ross. Stepping into her home without permission.
âHey! Havoc, what the hell is going on? Whatâre you carrying?â Ross began to question, sounding baffled and a bit annoyed as she quickly shut her front door and followed Havoc. It was the middle of the night, Ross was officially off duty for the night, so she had no idea what business the other second lieutenant would have with her at this ungodly hour. Her footsteps were softer than Havocâs against the hardwood floors, she was barefoot whereas Havoc had boots. Thudding, thudding, the sound was dull but so much louder than they should have been. The steps held a sort of authority, urgency, it was rather unlike him.Â
Havoc was always a sort of laid back guy, the only time he was serious was when those he cared for were in danger or the situation generally called for it.Â
âJustâ Whereâs your bathroom?â Havoc would start, only to cut himself off and change his low words into a question. A question that seemed so ordinary and didnât fit the situation that Ross thought of. He rolled the cigarette in his mouth around, an anxious habit of his, before lightly grinding his teeth against the filter. She blinked, her blue eyes looking into Havocâs as her thin brows pinched together. As much as she wanted to question it, the brunette knew it would be quicker to just point to the bathroom and ask questions later.Â
And so she did, her arm lightly smacking Havocâs as she pointed down a small hallway in her home. Her home was small, being only a townhouse that she rented out with the help of her co-worker. It was two stories, with two small bedrooms on the second floor, a kitchenette, a small bathroom, small dining room and a living area on the first floor. It wasnât much, but Ross felt content with what she had. She watched as Havoc walked through the small hallway she gestured to, stepping into the bathroom before waving his free hand outside the door. Beckoning her to come into the bathroom.
When she did come, she found that Havoc was seated on the edge of the tub; Not focusing on Ross, but on the creature he held. The creature had an armored carapace that faced her, partially hidden away by the white cloth that encased its body. It had only one furry arm, that appeared to be partially armored with the same scutes that covered its back, that had three fingers on the hands end. Long claws that looked to be for digging were on their ends, clinging tightly to Havocâs jacket. Desperately and shaky, as though the being thought Havoc would up and disappear if it didnât cling to him â if he didnât cling to him. Ross felt even more baffled the longer she looked at the back of the creature. At the circular ears that rested atop its head, against the golden locks that loosely hung from its head. Wavy, oily, dirtied. Like a humanâs hair rather than an animalâs. It wasnât the looks that made it apparent just what â or rather who â the being was. It was Havocâs soft reassuring murmurs.Â
âYou can let go, Ed, âm not going anywhere. You remember Ross, yeah?â Havoc was saying, only to cause Ross to look even more confused, âEd? Surely thatâs not the Ed I know.â, Ross thought, blinking as she crouched on the bathroom floor to be at eye level with Havoc and Ed.Â
âR.. Ross?â Ed echoed, a stammer in his slowed down words as he moved his head to look toward the woman kneeling behind him. The boyâs snout wrinkled slightly, his lips curling back almost on instinct before his face relaxed. Nose and whiskers twitching, clouded over golden eyes blinking. He looked nervous, but not so much so that heâd flee. It was an odd sight, even more wrong with how his body seemed to have changed, to see him so.. Frightened.Â
The second lieutenant froze up as Edward turned to face her, her eyes widening as she took in his appearance. He looked like those creatures she and the others, a part of the rescue team assigned to find both Elric brothers, had seen back at Lab 5. She swallowed, her eyes darting between Havoc and Ed. As if to figure out if this was some sort of joke, or prank, or something.Â
âEd?â She asked, her voice wavering slightly as internal pain began to cramp in her chest. Ed didnât loosen his grip on Havoc, but he leaned a bit away from him and closer to Ross; His round-tipped ears flicking slightly as he tilted his head to the side, watching. Watching. Before pulling away from her and offering her a lopsided, awkward smile; Sort of smile, it looked strange with the snout he had. He looked overly relieved, relaxing slightly on Havocâs lap.Â
Ross blinked again, surprised by his small movements and non-verbal acknowledgment. She felt overwhelmed suddenly, her heart racking against her ribs which felt all too crushing. Too tight. Too much, too much, but she pushed that all down and looked directly at Havoc. She couldnât afford to panic now, there wasnât even a plausible reason for her to, yet looking at Ed made her feel.. Sick. Her gaze hardened, though she wasnât angry in the slightest, more concerned and determined to know all that Havoc did.Â
âDoes Alphonse know? How long have you found him like.. This?â She began to question, not unkindly, as she addressed Havoc. Ed seemed completely fine with not being acknowledged, seemingly not really registering the conversation for now, simply facing forward again on the blue pants he sat on. Slowly blinking as his grip loosened slightly on the blue military uniform. Havoc chuckled sheepishly, his hand moving to Edwardâs armored back as he looked at Ross.Â
âI only just found him, when me, the boss, lieutenant Hawkeye, anâ major Armstrong were looking for Scar. No one else knows,â Havoc started, pausing as he rolled the still unlit cigarette in his mouth once again before continuing, âI kinda came here first.â The admission wasnât too big nor surprising, Ross had been demanding to know if anything came up regarding Edwards disappearance. But she wouldâve expected Havoc to head right for Alphonse, wherever he was. Ross had offered to shelter Alphonse while everyone searched for Ed; But he turned her down almost in an instant. Realistically, she hadnât seen Alphonse since then, though she had heard he was visiting colonel Mustangâs office regularly.
âI, also, was going to suggest that we keep him here, at least for now. I canât take him with me to the dorms.â Havoc added on with a wry grin, cigarette bitten down on more roughly, his free hand moving to rub at his nape. He chuckled wearily, the sound causing his chest to vibrate slightly against Edâs clawed hand. It made Edward jolt initially and tense, before blinking and relaxing again. He seemed to be trying to keep up with the conversation.
âSo, let me get this straight, you come out of nowhere and just expect me to suddenly be able to take him? Dennyâs here too, you know.â Ross retorted, shaking her head in exasperation. Her own hand raised to pinch the bridge of her nose, thought her eyes never left Havoc. Ross had darker eyes than Havoc, they were blue but more like the blue of an old toy with chipped paint. But, like Havocâs, they were kind and soft in all the ways that mattered, still keeping a firmness that screamed protectiveness instead of scorn. Loving, even to those that she barely knew, to those that needed it; Like the Elric brothers themselves.
âWouldnât he be happy to see Ed though? I know this should probably stay low profile, but you two were the ones who last sawââ Havoc began, his tone more pleading though never losing its casual nature. He stopped as he was interrupted, looking down at Edward who began to move a little as his narrow jaws opened. Trembling slightly as it floundered for a moment, a noise emitting from Edâs throat before he shook his head and tried again.
âAl?â Edâs voice rang out quietly, croaking with effort, his brows drawn together in annoyance at himself. He seemed to have caught up with what Havoc had said earlier. He wanted his brother, he wanted to see him and to make sure he was ok, to make sure he was safe. The creature blinked, moving to look at Ross as well; She was frowning, looking back at Ed but not saying anything just yet.
âAlâs in Dublith last I checked, seeing your teacher I think?â Havoc said, his shoulders rolling slightly as he shrugged. Ed turned back to face him, his mouth twisted into a comprehending frown. Blinking, watching, before he huffed slightly and let go of Havocâs military jacket. Ross sighed slightly before moving to stand up, her hands brushing against her legs as she looked at the two.Â
âYou can take the second room upstairs, Iâll let Denny know he needs to take the couch.â Ross said first before silently mouthing âill call Alâ; To which Havoc nodded and gave a small, appreciative âthank youâ, watching her leave the room. Leaving himself and the creature in his arms, Edward as he has to keep reminding himself, alone in the bathroom.
