oh goodness okay• so we all know that Steve is a mushy romantic type • which more than likely means that he’s been planning the proposal for quite some time before it actually happens• he’s watching his girlfriend dance around in socks while cooking and finds himself thinking that he wants her to have his babies. he decides then and there that he’s going to marry her• he tries to be casual when they’re laying in bed later, relaxing in a post-sex bliss, to ask her if she ever thought about marriage • the gleam in her eyes as she admits that she does, quite a bit, keeps steve awake all night• Steve might not have a good relationship with his parents, but his grandma had always been his rock ever since he was a little boy. that’s why he goes straight to her once he’s made up his mind• he leaves her house full of cookies and love and with the engagement ring his grandpa bought when they were just two young kids very much in love; he never saw any of that in his parents, but he had seen the love radiating between them up until the day grandpa died• on the night Steve plans to propose, his nerves make a wreck of things at dinner. first, his jittery leg spills beer all over his new dress pants, then he drops the entire loaf of free bread onto his lap. his girlfriend only watches with a giggle and pure love • by the time they make it back to his car he thinks he might throw up. as he drives them to the park where they had their first date, Steve mentally recites the speech he has prepared in his head• she’s afraid he might wreck the car• he refuses to explain, though, instead turning the radio on as a distraction until he can get to the pretty white swing porch they carved their names into on the fourth date • he knows that’s where he has to propose, because it was where he first knew he loved her• he tells her this as she tentatively sits, confused as to why he doesn’t follow suit• that entire speech disappears once Steve is down on one knee, grandma’s emerald ring presented. instead he says something more of a ramble • he’s sweating by the time he actually says the words: “will you marry me?”• they’re both sobbing with joy by the time he slips the ring onto her finger and they engage in a wet, but meaningful kiss• she was his future

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and i miss these kiddos, so here’s a Steve Harrington x oc! head canon for y’all:

beth has this poster up in her room- right between one of johnny depp and like 20 of michael j fox, mind you

as seen in s1 especially, steve’s insecurities often play out in the form of jealousy and rash conclusions that interfere with his relationships, and after overhearing two girls comparing billy hargrove to the guy from st. elmo’s fire, he never wanted to see that stupid thing again

he pulls away from her sweet strawberry lips, pouting and glaring daggers at her lilac walls

“hey beth? who’s that” ‘…rob… you mean rob lowe?’ does that earring look familiar?” etc

she’s not about to let him feed into that side of himself bc it’s only a poster of freaking rob lowe, not a polaroid of some guy she met at the hawk. it’s bc she understands the real reason he doesn’t like it

she ends up taking it down, folding it in half, and stuffing it into her whiny boyfriend’s fists.

she’d never admit it, but beth thought it was kinda cute that steve was jealous. besides, she’d always been more into back to the future than the outsiders, anyways

i am always overflowing with love and affection for my friends, and never hesistate to say so
