Never Give Up

Pairing: Sweet Pea x Reader, Archie Andrews x Reader

Warnings: Mentions of alcohol, implied cheating

Summary: Sweet Pea wants nothing more than for Y/N to be happy even if it’s not with him, but part of him can’t seem to give up.

Notes: It’s been a minute! I’ve been an major case of writers block but now I’m back in work and have more of a routine I’m hoping I can get back into writing more! Using this piece to fill the first square ‘Divorce’, on my @riverdalebingo summer card!

Sweet Pea finds himself watching her for most of the night.

He knows it’s probably borderline creepy at this point, but as he knocks back his fourth shot he realises he doesn’t care.

They’ve been best friends for as long as he can remember and he’s pretty sure there’s not a single thing he doesn’t know about her.

He knows that when she lies she fiddles with her hands. He knows that she hates her laugh even though he’s addicted to the sound. He knows she looks for her Father’s face in every crowd even though she knows he won’t be there.

He knows she’s complete and utterly in love with Archie Andrews and has been for the last five years or so.

And while he stares at her, she stares at the red head wishing he would look back. But Archie Andrews only has eyes for one girl, and that isn’t Y/N.

Sweet Pea can’t help but think there’s something horribly poetic about it. He’s in love with her, she’s in love with Archie, Archie’s in love with Veronica, a bittersweet circle that never seems to end.

But as she turns to him smiling, head tipping back as she giggles at something Toni whispers in her ear, he makes himself a promise.

He won’t give up.

He pulls at the knot in his tie but it doesn’t help ease the lump in his throat. Fangs swats at his hand, hissing at him to knock it off just as the music starts to play.

It takes everything Sweet Pea has to turn around and look, and he swears the minute his eyes land on her he stops breathing.

She looks a vision, an angel in white and he knows he’ll never escape this image.

She walks past him with a smile, a beaming red lipped grin that makes his heart beat faster and breaks it all at the same time.

As she reaches Archie at the end of the aisle, tears glistening in both of their eyes, he wants to be happy for her.

She won.

She got the guy, she’s living out her happily ever after.

However somewhere amongst all that he’d lost.

And he can’t shake that sinking feeling.

Six years later when she calls him close to midnight, he doesn’t hesitate before he races across town.

They’re still friends, of course they are, Sweet Pea can’t bare the thought of not having her in his life, but he keeps his distance.

He always had plans when she invited him over, something always came up at work when she called to say hi. She’d suspected something had changed between them a long time ago but never asked, she was too busy herself now anyway.

She answers the door with shaking hands and fresh tears, collapsing into his arms the minute she sees his face. He doesn’t catch the details, can’t make the words out over her sobs and the sound of her heart shattering, he just knows Archie messed up and they can’t fix it this time.

But he suspects it has something to do with the raven locked beauty that waltzed back into town a few weeks ago.

By the end of the week he’s loading the last of her things into his truck, her whole life packed into boxes and he can’t help but notice the way her eyes are still a little red as she smiles at the red haired four year old strapped in the back, a sight that makes his chest ache.

A month later she signs the divorce papers and Sweet Pea feels himself breathe for the first time in a long time.

Sweet Pea watches at the ten year old bounces along the side walk and into her father’s waiting arms, Veronica smiling beside them.

Y/N smiles politely back, long unfazed by seeing them together at this point, her right hand locked with his.

He can’t remember how it happened, the two of them pushed together by an interfering Toni and Fangs after one too many glasses of wine, years of pent up feelings coming out in a hazy rush.

She’d kissed him there and then for the first time and if it wasn’t for the way her fingers curled into his shirt, refusing to let go, he would have said he was dreaming.

And as his eyes drift down to the giggling three year old with jet back hair and bright y/e/c eyes waving goodbye to his sister, he can’t help but feel glad with how things worked out, that he never gave up.

1. Jughead is in a constant state of tiredness.

He doesn’t get enough sleep when he’s writing chapters of his mystery book on Riverdale, surely now that he’s part of the Serpents, he gets, even more, less sleep. It’s not like he doesn’t like sleeping, he loves sleeping.

But, it’s hard to fall asleep when he has a pull out bed from a couch to sleep on. The mattress isn’t even comfortable, he could feel the springs in the mattress. 

So, when he was living with Archie, the blow-up mattress was ten times better than the couch or sleeping on the floor. However, what takes the number one spot is your bed.

“I wouldn’t have come here if I wasn’t,” Jughead looks up at you, watching your shoulder deflate, “Dad’s-”
