I don't even know HOW I got THIS dream. My head must have been wild that night. It had some My Little Pony elements and a surprise cameo of a Chinese teen celebrity who's also a student (at least during the year I was dreaming) if I'm not mistaken. As usual, credit me as the dreamer if you wanna make a wild story out of this hehe enjoy~ (and also, I ASSURE you this was a genuine dream and not my conscious decision to make up a story. It was my subconscious sleeping that somehow decided to make this up, I KID YOU NOT) Enjoy anyway~

There was a girl who lived in a slum-orphanage with some friends. One day, she and her friends had a potato-eating contest. But the potatoes turned out to be rotten so everyone got sick. Except that girl. While the friends were busy recuperating, someone afterwards revealed that the girl was actually LITERALLY made from potatoes, hence her not getting sick from the rotten ones. Cuz once upon a time, there was a woman (a witch, actually) who took a pile of potatoes, cast a spell on it, and the potatoes turned into a baby, aka the main character girl.

Everyone hated the girl and ostracised her just cuz she was made of potatoes. But Potato Girl's friends still stuck by her and still insisted on being her friends anyway, so Tater Girl feels better. There was also a boy who kept bullying Miss Tater Tot cuz of her being a clump of potatoes, but her friends told him off and told Tater Girl not to care about the boy.

Tater Girl decides to find the truth about her existence and find her "mother" (the witch who created her) to get some answers, like why she created her in the first place. Tater Girl leaves the orphan-slum and goes out into the city. Eventually she bumps into a lady who is actually the sister of the witch (so she's kinda like Tater Girl's "aunt"). Aunty, after learning about Tater Girl's origins, immediately accepts her as family (way better treatment than what the majority of the orphan-slum gave Tater Girl) and invites her to her home where Tater Girl meets Aunty's children (Tater Girl's "cousins", I guess?).

They all get along really well, despite them knowing that Tater Girl is, well, a Tater Girl, and Tater Girl comes to the self-realisation that if God allowed her to exist despite not being conceived the normal way for humans, then He definitely gave her a human soul and He definitely loves her as a human anyway, and she definitely deserves as much love as any other human does. Also, Tater Girl decides it doesn't matter whether she meets her witch "mother". She's already happy with her friends and her newfound family, and she doesn't feel the need for any more answers.

After Tater Girl goes home, she is hanging out with her friends at the mall one day, when she bumps into this guy (who is actually the Chinese cameo I was talking about just now; I won't say the celeb's name, though. I'll just call this guy Cameo from now on). Cameo recognises her and tells her that they were actually friends when they were young. Ever since they separated, Cameo had been looking for her, and he had even written a song about her (yes, Cameo is a famous singer in my dream, just like the celeb teen in real life). Tater Girl tells Cameo about her being a clump of potatoes but he doesn't mind.

Later on, the boy who had been bullying Tater Girl goes to see her, and acknowledges that he was in the wrong for bullying her. Tater Girl has already let go of Bully Boy's past bullying, but she walks away from him to let him figure things out on his own. Also she just wants to live her own life in peace. She's not offering friendship to Bully Boy yet, but she acknowledges that he was at least decent enough to acknowledge his mistakes.

Then I woke up, the end.

When I was ten, I had a dream influenced by Harry Potter and LOTR/Hobbit despite never having watched the movies or read the books. If you wanna make a story out of this, just make sure to credit me as the original dreamer hehehehehehe...Enjoy~

Frodo was riding a Harry Potter broom in the middle of the night. (I'll call him Fro from now on) Fro's job was to bring this magical golden disc to an Old Wizard in the Woods every year, because the magic of the disc was the only thing keeping the town safe from outside threats. The Old Wizard's job was to renew the magic of the disc because the disc magic needs maintaining every year.

This year, however, and on this particular night, the Old Wizard said he couldn't cast his spell on the disc because it had been damaged. The wizard thinks the enemy must have damaged it on purpose so that any magic renewal on the disc will corrupt the magic and endanger the town. Just at that moment, the disc magically falls through the floor, and the wizard tells Fro that the enemy magically teleported the disc to his (the enemy's) lair. So now it is Fro's job to get the disc back.

So, Fro hops on his broom and flies off into the night, beginning his great adventure.

And then I woke up. The end

Fantasy school world building for fun

Rowena Snow is the name of a distant ancestor of Winnie Hart's. Winnie was named after her. Rowena was the youngest of seven Snow children, with one of her sisters being Hildegard Snow. Hildegard Snow was very influential and remarkable in her day (for whatever reason I don't know yet). Winnie Hart looks and acts very much like Rowena Snow, but Hildegard Snow is the direct distant ancestor of Winnie Hart (whether through Winnie's mum or dad, I'm not sure yet).

I had a crazy dream a few years back, possibly influenced by Moana, Kimi no Nawa and Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! If you wanna make a story out of it, that'd be great. As long as you credit me for the dreaming hahahahaha.

Anyway, I was dreaming that I was watching an anime. In this anime, there was a girl who was travelling to a faraway island to get some building materials to build something to save her home island. On the new island, she bumped into a charming boy on a skateboard. But there was also a shy boy who is the son of the Head of the Island. The Island Head was very strict and neglectful of his son ever since his wife died and he remarried a not-so-nice lady. Shyguy wanted to be friends with the girl and was secretly jealous of the charming boy for being so, well, charming.

The girl gets along well with the rest of the Island inhabitants, while wondering what is up with the shy boy and wanting to be friends with him. She learned from the islanders about the shy guy's family issues and past, about his late mum, his stepmum and about his dad becoming cold and closed off after his first wife's death and his subsequent remarriage. One day, as the girl went foraging in the forest of the island to get some materials for her mission, she falls in a pit. She can't get out. Meanwhile, the shy guy is at an electronics store. He's toying with a gadget there when the gadget accidentally gets activated and shows him the girl stuck in a pit in the forest. He uses said gadget to make a hologram of a gigantic gorilla to get her out. The girl thanks him and they become friends.

The girl is about to pack up her things and go back to her home island, and the shy boy makes some sushi for her for the journey home. However, his dad stops the boy from giving the girl the sushi and takes the girl aside. He tells her privately to stay away from his son. Shyguy is upset and runs off to visit his late mum's grave to vent to her. The girl also chews out the boy's stepmum for being mean to him. That night, the girl is preparing to sail back home. The shy boy also sneaks out to secretly join her.

Then I woke up. The end haha

I fell in love with the Olivia Rodrigo song, "Can't Catch Me Now" so I couldn't help imagining this song in one of my story scenarios. It's just so hauntingly beautiful, I couldn't help it hehe

Gus remembered the song his mother used to sing to him, either when they were dancing in the fields outside their cottage or when she was rocking him to sleep, soothing away his fears about his father no longer being around to protect them both. He remembered not understanding the words in the song as he waddled around in the grass or as he lay in bed with his eyes half-shut. He also remembered thinking that his mother sounded angry as she sang the song, though he knew it wasn't directed at him.

There's blood on the side of the mountain

There's writing all over the wall

The shadows of us are still dancing

In every room, in every hall

"What does that mean?" a wee little Gus remembered asking innocently.

"It's...it's hard to explain, honey," she smiled sadly.

"Is it about Daddy?" he piped up. His mum's smile faltered, and he knew he'd struck a nerve. "S-sorry, sorry Mummy, never mind--"

"No, it's okay, dear," she said, though Gus thought he saw a glistening tear threatening to escape from her eye.

Oh, I'm in the trees, I'm in the breeze

My footsteps on the ground

You'll see my face in every place

But you can't catch me now...

The tune was haunting to him, yet strangely soothing. He never quite understood the song, but that wasn't what he cared about. It just somehow felt like his mother would always be there with him, even if it's just a ghost of her.

Fantasy fiction featuring orphan-hero and chosen-one tropes (and this fic just so happens to have a teeny bit of inspiration from Harry Potter stuff, and maybe a bit of Lion Guard stuff, idk)

There was a boy who grew up in an orphanage for ten years, before getting adopted by his father's best friend.

The boy's uncle-figure had been looking for the boy ever since he heard that his best friend (the boy's father) and his wife (the boy's mother) died.

The boy's parents died separately, in two separate incidents. The boy's father (Aaron Edelhert) sacrificed himself to let his wife and baby son escape when there was a threat against their village. The mother took their baby boy to a different village to take refuge.

Unfortunately, when the boy was two to three years old, he was bitten by a dark snake, whose venom was lethally cursed. That snake also came from the same threat those two to three years ago, which the boy's father had partially succeeded to destroy before succumbing to his death. The mother acted quickly and extracted the curse, but at the cost of her own life. This left the boy with a scar over his eye, and his blood being laced with venom (without the curse). The venom gave him a certain immunity to some poisons, venoms and curses. It also prevented him from being recursed years later. The boy attributes this immunity to his mother's sacrifice rather than the venom itself.

POV

A tall, handsome young man stepped into the orphanage. He spoke politely to the orphanage staff, asking for a certain Augustus Jason Edelhert. They kindly obliged and gestured to the light-haired boy with a strange-looking blotch on his face.

The boy was sitting at a table with some friends, drawing pictures (really good pictures, the young man thought, he has his dad's talent).

The staff called the boy, and he walked up to them obediently, warily eyeing the man. The man stifled a gasp when he saw the blotch for what it was; a large, fat slash mark over the boy's left eye, from just above his eyebrow all the way to the bottom of his jaw. What have they done to you?

The man fought back his tears and smiled as welcomingly as he could at the little version of his brother. It stung him to know that he was a stranger in the boy's eyes (rather piercing eyes at that), but he would soon fix that.

"Augustus Jason Edelhert, this is your godfather, Cyrus Kane Waterbury. He will be looking after you in place of your parents."

Dystopian fiction

"Miss Lynn," A young Cordelia called her one night as she lay in bed. Lynn was just getting ready to leave the Wards' Dormitories.

"Yes, Cordelia?" Despite them being mere Caretaker and Ward (and despite Cordelia being only one of 1,000,000 Wards in her Batch), they have a very close relationship, almost like a mother and daughter, but in secret; family-like bonds were highly discouraged in the Colony.

"Has anyone ever tried going to the Surface before?"

Lynn paused, looking for the right words to say. It was a sensitive issue, and she wasn't sure if this was the right time to tell her. But Cordy seemed old enough; she would understand. Lynn looked around furtively, before going to Cordelia's bedside and whispered, "I'm gonna tell you a little secret. Okay?"

Cordelia lit up and nodded enthusiastically. She loved being trusted with secrets. It made her feel important; like a Treasurer keeping the most valuable treasures under lock and key. It was mostly things like each other's favourite colour or deepest fears, which Caretakers weren't supposed to share with their Wards. This secret felt especially important. Valuable, even.

"Once upon a time, there was a girl named Cordelia."

"Me?"

"Well, not exactly you. Your Namesake from last century." Cordelia didn't know what that meant, but she continued listening. "This Cordelia was a curious young lady. She once stumbled into the Colony from the Surface."

"WHAT!" Cordelia yelled out impulsively, and Lynn quickly shushed her in a panic. Cordelia immediately put her hands to her mouth. "I mean, what?"

Lynn glanced around quickly, hoping the ensuing silence would erase any evidence of her storytelling. Not a peep. She silently exhaled in relief before continuing the story. "No one knew how she got here. No one knew how she even knew how to get in. But they had to get rid of her."

"No!" Present-Cordelia gasped in horror, quietly this time.

"Oh, yes," Lynn affirmed. "They couldn't let anyone--" she looked around again, "anyone, know that there were still dwellers on the Surface."

"But I thought there was no way anyone could survive on the Surface," she said.

"That's what they teach you in School, Cordelia. That's why this is a secret."

Mystery/maybe-fantasy fiction world building stuff for funsies

Rowena "Winnie" Hart was accepted into a prestigious fantasy school. Her primary motivation is to find the people who murdered her parents and restore justice to her family. She believes that the murderers are linked to a secret society connected with the school.

Her parents, Jacques Hart and Lorelei Hart née Preston, used to study at the school. Her parents were part of the secret society, and were very prominent, high-ranking members. Therefore, Winnie was very famous in the school. The Hart Family was a very prestigious family with good standing. The Preston Family, Winnie's mother's family, was a family of renowned Healers and Potion-brewers.

Jacques and Lorelei had a very romantic and happy love life together, but tragically died young (for a reason that I am still trying to figure out, BTW. I'm also tryna figure out the circumstances of how they died, and whether they died when Winnie was a baby, or more recently).

Lorelei also used to be the Poisoner for the secret society; she was very good at Healing, but found Poisons to be more fascinating. She therefore exercised this talent (secretly, of course; only the society knows about it and they themselves gave her that job) to take out the enemies of the society and the school (the rest of the school didn't know about it). Of course, Lorelei also used her Healing talents publicly when needed.

More dystopian fiction lore just for funsies (and I'm sorry for the inaccuracies and not-very-knowledgeable Geography stuff and continuity issues. This is just me having fun with fiction so do with it as you will as long as you credit me for it hahahahaha yes I know I'm an amateur but I'm just expanding this lore for funsies)

Cordelia was actually a perfect clone of Past-Cordelia. Present-Cordelia is actually Cordelia II. Cordelia I (the original from the Surface) was genetically engineered in a lab on the Surface, so the first Cordelia also didn't have parents. She was literally created to be a child soldier. This leads Cordelia II to feel like she has no identity at all ("I mean, none of us in the Colony ever had an identity of our own to begin with," she recalls.)

When the very first Colonists dug Underground, they used their advanced technologies to push back the magma so there would be more space Underground to build their Colony. This led to the Core overheating, which could possibly cause it to explode, so they quickly had to construct some tunnels leading away from the Core to certain parts of the Surface. This led to lava leaks on the Surface in those areas, creating more volcanoes and volcanic eruptions in the process.

This led to the Surface becoming more dangerous than it already was. Jasper still feels bitter towards the Underground for having endangered his home and his family. When the Colonists had started pushing back the magma, it led to the Surface getting colder, with occasional startling bouts of lava spurts. Therefore, the temperature on the Surface became more unstable than it already was.

Random dystopian fiction lore just for funsies

Cordelia learned about her Namesake from the previous century. Past-Cordelia had a rebellious streak. She was very carefree.

Past-Cordelia actually came from the Surface, but was curious and inquisitive. She saw a curious-looking manhole (the same one that Present-Cordelia crawled out of when she escaped) and crawled in.

Past-Cordelia's presence in the Colony caused quite the outrage. The Colony authorities could not afford to let slip that an Outsider had crawled in, lest the rest of the Colony realise that there were indeed people dwelling on the Surface and that everything that they had been taught was a lie.

Unbeknownst to the Underground, Past-Cordelia was actually a spy sent to the Underground.

Dystopian fiction stuff just for funsies. Do whatever you want with them (as long as you credit me even tho I'm just another amateur hehe), I'm just throwing out ideas here and there. Cuz I'm bored.

Cordelia gets to the Surface, and during her stay there, she learns that a group of Surface-dwellers, the Rebels, are planning to overthrow the Underground Colony she came from, due to the Colony leeching off resources from the Surface. Cordelia feels guilty that she implicitly gave the Surface-dwellers information about the Core.

Earlier, Cordelia saw some of the Surface-dwellers in poverty and desolation, with some even fighting each other for food. She briefly considered bringing them back to the Colony for a better quality of life, despite having seen the Chipping procedure that takes away one's free will. A trade-off, basically. Trade in your free will for a roof over your head and a decent meal.

Cordelia feels torn. She's thinking of staying at the Surface to help improve the Surface-dwellers' way of life, but she's also worried that the uprising against the Colony would cause chaos, and in her worst-case-scenario imagination, possibly even destroy the Core and wipe out all life, both on the Surface and in the Underground ("which is NEVER gonna happen so STOP thinking about it," she scolds herself).

Cordelia had been taught, during her childhood Underground, that there was nothing good on the Surface. That it was literally uninhabitable; totally unfit for any and all life. As it turns out, there actually have been people living on the Surface. Now, she's just trying to keep everyone safe. She doesn't want to be caught in the crossfire. She doesn't want to have to take sides. She never wanted to betray the Colony, either. She just wanted to escape getting Chipped.

Cordelia had learned about this topic called "families" in her Pre-Disaster Studies. Where there was such a thing as a "mother" and a "father", instead of just Caretakers. Where there were "brothers" and "sisters" instead of just Batch-mates. Where this thing called "love" was supposed to thrive. She sometimes wondered what it would be like to be part of a family, instead of just being one of the 1,000,000 Batch babies looked after by Caretakers. She sometimes wondered if her Batch-mates could be considered "brothers" and "sisters". Some of her Batch-mates shared that sentiment, but were quickly shut down when their Caretakers reprimanded them with that creepy robotic tone. Other Batch members laughed at the mere idea.

When Cordelia went to the Surface, she saw how some of the Surface families behaved. She saw the loving and affectionate families and felt a sense of loss in herself, for something she had never had. She saw the cold and distant families and was reminded of her own Care Unit (a group made of Caretakers and their respective Batch members). She thought that their reasons of their aloofness were the same as those of the Care Units in the Underground Colony; that is, to avoid any attachment, especially love, that may be a detriment to the collective wellbeing of the Colony, or in this case, the rest of the Surface-dwellers' society. Still then, there were downright cruel and abusive families, making her perplexed about the complexity of families.

Dystopian fiction stuff just for funsies, based on the Hunger Games "Hanging Tree" song cuz I was inspired by the different renditions of this song on Tiktok hahaha don't mind me cuz I'm boooooooooorrrrrrrrrreeedddddddd

This song is about a tree with birdcages on its branches. Cordelia encounters this tree during her time on the Surface. The tree with its birdcages look like a tree bearing fruits--except in this case, the "fruits" are the birds trapped in the cages; hence, the name "Birding Tree".

POV (Jasper taking Cordelia to the Birding Tree)

"I...I'm so sorry. About your gram'ma," I managed.

Jasper smiled as we continued treading through the grass. "Thanks...there was this lullaby she used to sing me. When I--when she passed, that lullaby, that was the first thing that came to mind. Funny, isn't it? I'd totally forgotten about it. It'd been years since she last sang it to me."

"Sorry, what--lala...bye?"

"Lull-a-by," he enunciated. "It's a bedtime song. Well, I don't know if it's actually written to be a lullaby, but she sang that to me at night."

"I didn't know you could sing someone to sleep." I probably sounded stupid saying that. He laughed.

"You learn something new everyday, huh?"

"When you've lived under the Surface, or 'under a rock', as you say, as long as I have, there's only so much you know," I quipped. "So, how did this...lull-a-by go?"

"Pardon?"

"Do you think you could...sing it to me? If you don't mind, of course."

He hesitated, looking around for a bit. "I guess I could. Since it's just you and me." He winked, and I could have sworn I almost tripped on air.

Are you...are you...

Comin' to the tree

We struck down a birdie

Singing in the breeze

Strange things have happened here,

No stranger would it be,

If we took...this birdie...

To the Birding Tree

Are you...are you...

Comin' to the tree

Hear a choir of birdsong

Raging to be free

Strange things have happened here

No stranger would it be,

If we took...these birdies...

To the Birding Tree

Are you...are you...

Comin' to the tree

Build a nest in this cage

Side by side with me

Strange things have happened here

No stranger would it be,

If Birdie stays awhile,

Here in the Birding Tree

We reached the top of the hill, and there was the tree. It had round little birdcages, hanging on its branches, like striped, hollowed-out apples. Each birdcage housed a little bird, tweeting away, looking around from its little abode.

"And, here we have it. The Birding Tree. Ta-daaaa...", he introduced lamely on purpose, and I laughed.

Dystopian world-building for funsies cuz why not

Cordelia and her Batch-mates were raised by Caretakers after they were Produced by the Producers. They have no parents, no family. Just the Caretakers and each other.

When they are old enough, they are brought to the Academy as Students. Cordelia is especially fascinated by Pre-Disaster Studies, a subject taught in the Academy.

All babies, both boys and girls, have been pre-conditioned during their Production (as zygotes, during their gene arrangements) to have only straight hair, never curly. Girls wear their hair down, nice and straight, with no tying or accessorising. Boys are expected to keep their hair trimmed short and tidy, but with no curls or styling.

More dystopian just-for-funsies stuff cuz I'm bored

Cordelia runs for her life in utter terror when she sees the barbaric procedure of Chipping, an integral part of the Integration. It involves a lobotomy, with that section of the brain responsible for making autonomous decisions being replaced with the Chip; ostensibly for identification purposes, the Chip is actually meant to monitor your every thought, and serve as a system override should you even entertain the mere notion of rebelling or anything remotely un-Colony-like.

So this is the price of Integration.

She chillingly remembers all the times she and her Batch-mates Misbehaved*, and the Caretakers took on a robotic gaze, eyes blank and unfeeling, as they reprimanded them in an uncanny, robotic tone. Those blank stares, those blank scoldings, the kind that deterred her and her Batch-mates from their prying curiosity with their inexplicable creepiness; they were all the same. Did their own minds even belong to them anymore?

Cordelia escapes, unwittingly to the Surface, where she finds that not everything was what she was taught it would be.

POV

I see a bright light at the end of the tunnel. Strange, how this exact same sentence is used to describe one's last moments in pre-Disaster literature. I shield my eyes from this strange, new sun and...

"Whoa."

*Misbehaved = not referring to mischief in general, but to "Untrustworthy" behaviour indicating distrust of the Colony or outright rebellion

Dystopian fiction stuff just for funsies

The Surface. A place once filled with life, water and all the right temperatures.

Until the Disaster struck.

Within seconds, all life on the Surface was totally wiped out. Except for one little Group, safely hiding Underground. This Group expanded and formed an entire Colony under the Surface. Now, it's our home. Where everything is powered by the Core. Our "sun", if you will. Everything is safe, warm and protected against whatever ghastly threats lie on the Surface.

They give us Tagged bracelets as children to keep an eye on us so we don't go too near to the Surface--or anywhere dangerous, for that matter--and at the age of twenty, the Tag is replaced with a Chip for our identification, and you are officially considered fully Integrated into the Colony.

At the age of twenty, during said Integration, everyone is sorted into specific Categories with respective Roles to serve the Colony. The Category you get sorted into becomes your second name; a Surname. Your Category basically becomes your "family", in pre-Disaster speak. All these Roles go into upkeeping the Colony, and ultimately the Core; and, in the unlikely worst-case-scenario, prevent the Core from burning out. Or even exploding. Which will never happen, by the way, so don't you dare dwell on that definitely-never-gonna-happen scenario. Ever.

Every Batch of babies is genetically engineered to have the most optimal thriving traits, before they are all Inducted into the Colony. And no, they don't live inside women's bellies, or whatever they did back in the pre-Disaster days. The Genes that go into producing each baby are arranged and re-ordered ever so meticulously, as to ensure the best results for a healthy baby.

The Induction is basically a welcoming ceremony for these babies. It is where the babies--1,000,000 per Batch--are "born", so to speak in pre-Disaster vocabulary, as well as given a Name from the Naming Cycle. Every Century, the Naming Cycle undergoes a Rotation. So every individual has a Namesake from every previous Century. A Newborn baby is Inducted; 20 years later, they get Integrated.

My name is Cordelia, and soon, I will be fully Integrated, with my very own Role in the Colony.
