While Most Of The Arguments Attacking The Legitimacy Of Palestinian Gfms And The People Who Verify Them
While most of the arguments attacking the legitimacy of palestinian gfms and the people who verify them seem to boil down to the plain racism and the discomfort with having to think of palestinians as anything other than faceless statistics on your phone or tv screens instead of real living people who want to talk to us, there is a strain of of it that i find more aggravating than anything else.

[image i.d.: senatortedcruz, 6d ago: Friends I will be honest I don't think real life Gazans are taking time out of their day to make brand new tumblr blogs then send asks to big bloggers asking for money.]
This makes my blood boil for a couple of reasons:
FIRSTLY, there is the assumption that palestinians were somehow never on the internet before. The smear campaign against shahed began literally after some users found it impossible to believe that she was a real person who loves photography and to talk to me about her art and how important it was to her. This was IN SPITE of me linking her Instagram that has existed long before October 7th 2023 and has over 6k followers specifically there for her art, which they would have found easily if they had cared to actually read my posts about her.
This is nothing new, because it has always been the general assumption from users in the imperial core that you don't think we from the global south can exist on the internet and see all the shit you say and have opinions about it– but it never stops being shocking to me how thoroughly you are ready to pretend we aren't real people every time. We are directly seeing the results of that wilful ignorance manifest itself cruelly against palestinians in their time of need today.
And then SECONDLY comes the fact that they aren't entirely wrong– reaching out to us on the internet in the middle of a genocide IS insanely hard. There are constant network outages due to the incessant bombing, people have lost their homes and livelihoods, they have lost so much of their friends and families, they are sick and injured, they are struggling just to find any food or any clean water. A lot of people either lost their cellphones while fleeing violence or probably had to sell them and pick cutting themselves off from the world and each other over starving. They are experiencing atrocities beyond our comprehension. A lot of people have given up, especially in the face of the apathy they see from the rest of the world to what they are going through. But that doesn't mean everyone has and that they aren't reaching out to us anyway, often at great cost to themselves, because it is a matter of survival.
Shahed has told me that she has had to struggle a lot to reach out to us. Finding places where there is internet connection is very hard, and she often has to risk going by active combat zones to get a good enough reception to talk to me and others here she has befriended. The danger is even more so at night, and she has told me about how afraid she is at those times because of the presence of iof quadcopters in the area. Sometimes she is able to come by internet connection at night from someone with some solar cells nearby her tent now that running electricity has become so hard to come by in gaza, but she has to pay a high fee to get it from them, dipping into the meagre funds her family has saved for food and water instead.
Every single message that reaches us from gaza comes with a sacrifice we can't even begin to understand.
The cost she has to pay both literally and in terms of the dangers to her life to reach out to us are extremely high, but she still does it all because she is the sole provider for her family of seventeen right now– especially her little siblings Rafif and Masa, who are suffering from severe hepatitis right now and urgently need to get out of gaza so that they can seek treatment in egypt; and her months old nephew who was born just weeks before the genocide began and has no access to baby food or diapers right now.

It GALLS me to see people try to call her a liar for being able to have an internet connection at ALL when i know just how hard she had to fight to get it.
Just because YOU are unable to imagine yourself in that situation when you are in your comfortable homes with an easily available connection, DOESN'T mean there aren't people who are willing to fight to be heard and get the help they deserve. And of course, this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the struggle that comes with crowdfunding when you are in gaza.
Your “cynicism” comes from a place of privilege and doesn't help anyone. You are only insulting all the palestinians who work so hard every day to reach out to us, all so some truly heartless people can call them bots or scams for being able to reach out to anyone at all.
WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME. SHAHED HAS TO REACH 80K WITHIN THIS WEEK TO EVACUATE HER WHOLE FAMILY.
WE HAVE ONLY JUST CRACKED 68K/80K, AND THERE IS STILL A LONG WAY TO GO.

Please donate to and share Shahed's fundraiser as widely as possible. Take it to your whatsapp groups, to your discord servers, your instagram stories. Repost her story and her photography, repost the link to the raffle at @journalsforpalestine wherever you have reach because there is only so much i can do with the deadline looming so close to us.
This CANNOT wait. You've gotten her this far, let's get her through this last stretch too.

Trapped Family in Gaza Appeals for Help to Survive🥹🍉

🇵🇸🍉🇵🇸🍉🇵🇸🍉🇵🇸🍉🇵🇸🍉🇵🇸🍉🇵🇸🍉🇵🇸🍉🇵🇸

I am Mohammed Alanqer, married to Enas Majed. We have three children, and recently, during the war, we welcomed a new baby, making our children four now. We pray to God to protect them and keep them safe from harm in this harsh war.💔🥹

When the war began, I was deeply worried about our three children, and now, with the arrival of our new baby, our concerns have only grown. For over 300 days, we have been suffering and fleeing from one place to another. We pray to God to protect our children and keep them safe from harm in this harsh war.💔🥹

Amidst the ongoing war in Gaza, we find ourselves as a family trapped between walls of fear and despair. I, Mohammed, a father of three children and a husband to a woman in her eighth month of pregnancy, live in an environment filled with threats and risks.🌹

My technology startup, which I built with dedication and hard work, was destroyed during this war, leading to the loss of our livelihood. My children, Layan, Sarah, and Adam, no longer have the opportunity for education due to the destruction of schools, posing a significant threat to their future.
My wife, Enas, lives in constant anxiety due to her advanced pregnancy and the destruction of hospitals in the area. After losing my job and source of income, I find myself in a severe financial crisis, unable to provide for the needs and safety of my family.
Our family home was destroyed due to the war, forcing us to flee and move multiple times, leaving us homeless. Everything has become difficult now; we cannot provide a safe place to live, nor can we afford clean clothes and food for our children. Additionally, our children have been afflicted with diseases such as measles, and our son Adam has been diagnosed with viral hepatitis.

- "Adam" -

Our only hope now is to escape from this ongoing hell and find a safe haven for our family. However, this requires exorbitant financial costs, with the coordination fee for crossing borders amounting to $5000 per adult and $2500 per child, a sum I cannot afford alone.
- "My home before the war "-

We urgently appeal for your moral and financial assistance to cover the necessary costs for escaping to a safe environment, where we can build a better future for our children and ensure the safety of our family
- "My home in the war" -

Thank you for your attention and support, and we hope you can help us in these difficult circumstances.
Newborn -amir ❤️☺️🌹

So now that me and my vetting contact in Ghazzah have concluded a double verification, I can assure you that the people who started this mess have not even identified 1 fundraiser on the list that was not legitimate.
They targetted Shahed's fundraiser and they targetted Bassel's fundraisers and both are legitimate fundraisers for people in Ghazzah.
I cannot stress enough how much suffering these white people inflicted on a sizeable amount of Ghazzans on this platform through false allegations alone. Instead of asking questions? They just accused us of being a Belgian scam ring and called it a day. I do not have any doubt in my mind this was malicious, that this was meant to attack and deteriorate the conditions of an already suffering people. I do not believe it's a 'mistake' coming from people who shill out to AO3, the scam website itself. "You don't have to believe everything on the Internet" except they do believe everything they see on the Internet when it comes to properties and websites held by white people.
And then they accuse Palestinians fleeing genocide of being scammers.
Demonic behaviour.

Shahed could be left behind soon.
You may have heard of Shahed (@shahednhall) - most likely through the recent racist smear campaigns taking stabs at her name in lack of anything concrete to validate their anti-Palestinian hatred.
But did you also know she's a photographer? Did you know she loves baking and fashion?

Photos from Shahed's instagram.
Did you know she is the primary caretaker of her five younger siblings, the youngest of which is a newborn? Did you know that she loves them more than anything?

Did you know her three sisters are sick with viral hepatitis due to the unsanitary conditions in Gaza?
Because of Shahed's love for them, she found the strength despite her own sickness and malnourishment to walk great distances while she was supposed to be sheltering from bombardment, to find internet access to raise funds to evacuate her sister so that they may seek medical care.
Because of that strength, she was able to raise enough funds for them, but if she doesn't reach the end goal of her campaign as soon as next week, she will be separated from her sisters.
As of this post, she has raised $65,561 out of $80,000. That is barely enough for her siblings and her father, who has a heart disease. That is not enough money for Shahed to go with them!
I implore you to make sure Shahed is not left behind. I implore you to get them out together as a family.

i've spoken about his situation before, but i want to highlight my friend Mahmoud's (@mahmoudkhalafff) campaign again, as progress has continued to be fairly slow.
with the help of his college, Mahmoud was able to evacuate from Gaza alone after being displaced four times with his family. he is now in Ireland, teaching and studying to receive his PhD, and is trying to raise the necessary funds to bring the rest of his family to safety, first in Egypt, and then hopefully with him in Ireland.
the Khalaf family consists of eight members, several of whom are children. they have been displaced repeatedly and have faced unremitting danger while moving from place to place, including being trapped in a building by sniper fire and witnessing the bombing of their neighbors' house. luckily none of them have been injured (or worse), but Mahmoud fears it's only a matter of time.
over almost four months of fundraising, Mahmoud has only collected €17,684 out of the €30,000 he needs to evacuate his family. please share his posts and donate if you have the means to help him safely reunite with his loved ones as soon as possible! your help can make all the difference
(Mahmoud's campaign is #151 on @/el-shab-hussein and @/nabulsi's spreadsheet)
