Fates Had Tons Of Good Characters, But The Writers' Obsession With Portraying The Playable Ones As Pure

Fates had tons of good characters, but the writers' obsession with portraying the playable ones as pure angels when they SHOULDN'T be honestly makes it seem like most of them are Little Timmy's first crappy OC. Having Xander condemn a murderer like Hans while allowing a murderer like Peri to serve him when NEITHER showed signs of being rehabilitated is proof that he's... complex, to say the least (he's actually a raging hypocrite and a TERRIBLE leader, which would be interesting in a character that's meant to be a just leader, but the narrative paints him as a bastion of justice who's somehow... "better"(?) than Garon despite showing in his actions and supports that he really isn't???) Most of the fandom *I've* interacted with acknowledges that the CAST of Fates was passable, at least in terms of broad character strokes, but the actual writing of said characters ruined everything.

The most interesting characters who could have provided lots of backstory for the world at large- ie, Shura, whose people were genocide'd by their neighbors and who was denied asylum by the royal family; Gunther, who's village and family were slaughtered by the king he fought for out of sheer (yandere) pettiness; Flora, who was a political hostage forced to serve ANOTHER political hostage- are all shoved in a corner to make room for the waifus to have every boy tell them why their rampant xenophobia and SERIAL MURDERS are okay. When THOSE are the kinds of characters that get the most "development", it's easy to see why people assume the worst of the cast at large.

>implying gay people are too stupid to know what the opposite sex looks like

It was a stylistic choice, bro. Even though he used male models (which EVERYONE did at the time, not just the gays because they were gay), he KNEW what women looked like and could make very delicate female forms when he wanted to. For your consideration:

>implying Gay People Are Too Stupid To Know What The Opposite Sex Looks Like
>implying Gay People Are Too Stupid To Know What The Opposite Sex Looks Like

Man still drew fugly feet, though.

Fire Emblem 15: Fire Emblem 2 with more useless OCs, a plot that, in trying to be more complex, makes it's characters more unlikable and reduces the heroic girlfriend into an idiot damsal in need of saving, and a backstory no one asked for a character that didn't need it that somehow made him LESS interesting than just leaving his origin as "???".

Another part of my youth bites the dust. I have so many of those guides (including the D/P one pictured, even though I never bought the game). Prima is 100% the reason I loved Pokemon Silver and FF7 Crisis Core so much- those guides kept me from throwing the games away in frustration.

Alas, all things come to an end...

Prima has published strategy guides for over 1,400 games since 1990, but the death of print media has finally caused them to close their doors. The Roseville, California company will cease all operations by the Spring of 2019
