Renaissance Fair stepping up their game!

As an autistic person I do this anyway. If I don't at the very least understand the opponents viewpoint, how could I ever hope to combat it?
It's very possible that the only way to ensure you don't become a conservative old person is to keep checking whether you're wrong. Every time. Genuinely mull over the opposing viewpoint even and especially when it's uncomfortable. You absolutely cannot a) consider yourself safely incapable of terrible principles because you're a good person, or b) treat a your disgust reaction to something as a moral truth. You can't get comfortable. Tiring! But you'd rather be tired and choose the right path, you know?
So I'm just now figuring out I might be autistic at 26 years old. I had family over so I decided to bring it up, I *thought* I might have to even convince some of them that its not me being paranoid or something. The general reaction I actually got was 'yeah, that makes sense'.
WHAT!? HOW OBVIOUS IS IT!?
"Don't attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence."
People are not out to get you. Someone being rude to you is probably having a bad day and has ran out of patience, its not personal. I know people who treat every minor inconvenience and every little disaggreement like a personal attack on their very being. Its not personal, its never personal, so don't take it personally cause I guarantee you that person who was slightly rude to you had no idea they even did anything out of the ordinary.
i think one of the most important things you learn about making connections with others is that a significant portion of the time people just do not know theyre doing what theyre doing
Your friendly reminder that religion is not and has never been the enemy. People perverting religion for their own selfish goals is.
