I don't think Unity and Rick ever loved each other, I think they loved the idea of each other, Rick loved the idea of an escape, a hive mind that could do anything for him, they could give him all the drugs he could want, meanwhile Unity never loved Rick, they loved the idea of him, the idea of a single mind that saw the bigger picture, and to add on with that, while I disagree that Rick did nothing wrong in air force wong, I think he gets too much blame, Unity is partially to blame too, they ghosted Rick, then got mad when Rick ghosted them, and Rick was completely in the right to not answer Unity's calls, if someone broke up with you, you probably wouldn't answer their calls, and Unity hijacking a state to reach Rick was too big of a jump, Rick wasn't completely in the right in that episode, he was an asshole, but his reaction makes sense when you consider what Unity's break up did to him. It bothers me how they pin all the blame on Rick and act like Unity is a sweet little angel that did nothing wrong.

One reason the "women don't watch Rick and Morty!!" narrative frustrates me is that people say it like it's proof that the show is sexist--and yeah, the dudebro fans are awful and "Raising Gazorpazorp" is hot garbage, but the show famously hired more female writers starting in season three, added more female characters and gave existing ones bigger roles, and has plenty of one-off female characters voiced by actual women, not men doing silly voices.

It's also not true that we don't watch the show. A 2018 study showed that women make up 40% of Rick and Morty Hulu's viewership. It's an old study, but women are still a huge part of the online community, and I saw just as many women at the Rickmobile as I did men, so we're not exactly fleeing in droves.

But ultimately, I think that a lot of the people who say women don't watch Rick and Morty don't know about "Raising Gazorpazorp." They just can't believe that women would watch an animated sci-fi comedy with dark humor. That's for BOYS! We can't handle anything more graphic than Bluey because it might upset our delicate, tea-drinking sensibilities.
