Out of anyone they had to run into. Why did it have to be Sammy? Shawn and Grant were looking for supplies in an abandoned convenience store. Only trying to grab things like water, food, anything else that could be useful. When they stumbled upon Sammy. Well.. Sammy’s corpse. Why was he there? They had no idea. All that mattered was that he was, and they needed to get out before he spotted them.

They could hear his moaning from the other side of the small store. The two men hiding behind the counter where the cash register was. Grant almost screamed when he saw their former friend. Shawn had to cover his mouth with his hand to stop him. His other hand clutching his shotgun.

Making noise was a risk. From what the two men had observed, the infected seemed to have terrible eyesight. Although they made up for that with enhanced hearing. In order to get out of this building safely, Shawn and Grant needed to make a little noise as possible.

Sammy Lawrence shuffled around between the aisles. His clothes and face covered in blood. Most-likely having fed before coming in here. The rest of his appearance just as unsightly. Pale, almost blue skin. Veins visible and dark. Covering his body, stopping at his face. Glowing yellow eyes dripping with black blood. It hurt to see a friend reduced to something like this.. but there was nothing to be done for him.

“W-We can’t l-leave him like that..” Grant whispered after Shawn removes his habd, trying desperately not to cry. He wanted to so badly. It just wasn’t fair. Why did this have to happen?

“We don’t have a choice.. I’m sorry. Right now we have to focus on escaping..” Shawn patted his friend’s shoulder. It was the only thing he could do to comfort him at the moment.

Thankfully Sammy didn’t hear their conversation. He was preoccupied with one of the little toys in the store. He accidentally stepped on a squeaky toy. The sound attracting his attention. Looking around wildly. Letting out a confused gurgle. Not realizing it had come from something he stepped on, he started searching around for the noise.

It was at this moment that Shawn had an idea.

“Grant.. I’m going to throw something to the end of the room. The sound should grab his attention. Then we need to get out of here quick.. I’ll go on three.” There was a ring of keys on the counter that someone must’ve left there during the chaos of the outbreak. He grabbed them.

“O-Okay.. please be careful.” Grant said in a small worried voice. He sat close to Shawn as he got ready to launch the keys to the other side of the room.

“One.”

Sammy was still prowling the aisles.

“Two.”

He paused at the chocolate candy section. It almost looked like he was trying to read something.

“Three.”

With one swift movement the keys flung to the back of the room. Scattering to the ground loudly. Earning an alerted growl from Sammy. Accidentally knocking over a few things for sale in the process of pursuing the sound.

‘Thank god..’ The two men silently thought as they crept out from the behind the counter and towards the door. Finally getting out of the store. Leaving Sammy’s undead corpse behind.

Hopefully they wouldn’t encounter anymore zombies on the way home.

That was fun! Wow I’m tired though. It’s 1:17 AM. But doing a prompt was worth it! Sorry if it’s not very good though lol, I’m just very tired, but I had a lot of fun! I really hope you liked it! 😄😄
