#Day 133: Before SPN Returns

Castiel & Elijah Mikaelson: Part 1

Here are two of my favourites from CW shows: Castiel from ‘Supernatural’ and Elijah Mikaelson from ‘The Originals'.

I've always noticed the similarities in the characters I love, but after I really list them out...damn they are so different, yet at the same time have so much in common!

I shall list some of the things they share. This is by no means an exhaustive list.

1. Let’s start with the obvious shall we? They both wear suits and they both look good in coats.

2. They are both supernatural beings, Castiel being an angel and Elijah being an original vampire.

3. They are both very old. Castiel watched humans evolve and Elijah lived for 1000 years.

4. They both made the hell out of their entrances.

5. They both have daddy issues.

6. They are both madly in love with another man (I’ll leave the definition of love open here)......

......they both try to save the man they love......

......they both (nearly) get killed by the man they love......

......and they both like flashing all bystanders with their love for the man.

Well this post has gone unexpectedly long. I’ll have to divide the post into two parts then.

So done with everyone, even the writer, picking on Elijah. One flaw demonstrated and it was put under magnifying glass. Yes he had a dark history when he was young and hadn't learnt to control his hunger for blood, but it nearly broke him, if not already, when he realised what he had done. Would Klaus wake up and regret it? No, don't think so. He'd just laugh off at the innocent lives that he forgot he killed. Let's not forget Elijah tried to save Elena's life before Damon forced her to drink blood. Let's not forget Elijah tried to negotiate with Davina after waking up from slumber, craving for blood. Let's not forget that he was the only person still willing to trust Freya and her intention to save Hope, when her link with Dahlia was revealed. And Let’s not forget that it was Elijah who told Klaus to give Cami her final dignity to choose death over eternal bloodlust. Julie Plec, are you suggesting that even the most moral man has a subconscious monster inside that’s just waiting to lash out at women? How very convincing of you to use that as your argument for gender equality because that means deep down you don’t believe that men can ever treat women as equals. Well, all things said, I dare you resurrect all female characters who don't deserve to die under hands of men in both TVD and TO. And then you can talk to me about feminism.

So wait...wait...

Plec is just gonna ignore the fact that:

Klaus wanted to use Caroline as a sacrifice and didn’t care if she lived

Klaus killed Tyler without caring how it would effect Caroline

Klaus kissed Caroline while in Tyler’s body, which is sexual manipulation

“You’re beautiful, but if you don’t stop talking, I will kill you”

Klaus had Tyler bite Caroline while he was sired to him

Klaus stabbed Caroline with a lamp because she hurt his feelings

Klaus basically holds his blood over her head to heal her

Klaus tried to kill Caroline on multiple occasions

Klaus was obsessed and manipulative to Caroline

But Julie Plec promotes Klar*line

Plec is just gonna ignore the fact that:

Damon KILLED Jeremy when Elena rejected him

Damon hurt Jeremy more multiple times

Damon compelled Elena’s best friend to sleep with him when Elena rejected him, again, sexual manipulation

Damon dated Elena’s mother

Damon tortured Elena’s friends

Damon was obsessed and manipulative with Elena

But Julie Plec had Delena be endgame

Plec ignores the fact that:

Kol literally never respected women, or ANYONE, before Davina

Kol stabbed Davina when he wasn’t in his right frame of mind

But Julie Plec lets them drive off into the sunset

Plec is just gonna ignore:

Elijah who’s done nothing but RESPECT Hayley

Elijah who’s done nothing but ACCEPT whatever decisions Hayley made regarding the 2 of them

Elijah who’s done nothing but STEP BACK when Hayley told him to

Elijah who IGNORED his feelings for her for the first 9 months they knew each other because he knew it would put her in a bad spot between her and Klaus; because he knew what Klaus did to the women he held in his heart

Elijah who RESPECTED Hayley enough not to push himself on her when she married Jackson or even AFTER Jackson died

Elijah who said “As a devout FEMENIST, I refuse to say you hit like a girl”(…so all of the sudden this isn’t true? We’re gonna assassinate his character because she’s pissed about Trump?)

Elijah who has done EVERYTHING in his power to defend Hayley and keep her safe

Elijah who WELCOMED Hayley into his family and swore to protect her from the VERY beginning

But the “feminism” line is drawn when Elijah hurt Hayley when he WASN’T in his right frame of mind behind the Red door?

So done with this show and its hypocrisy. Thanks for opening up my Friday nights, Julie Plec. You’re a great writer and director (sarcasm).

Love how you can see the transition of his emotional state very clearly: 1. Sad and resolute 2. Confused and lost 3. Waking up from a dark endless dream 4. Slowly feeling the heat of the sun as the burden begins to lift 5. Starting to feel the joy for life which he has lost long time ago

Sad, yet filled with hope and life .

My mother, she said Castiel, he would keep me safe. She said the world was a dangerous place. That’s─that’s why I couldn’t be a baby or a child. That’s why I had to grow up fast. That’s why I chose him to be my father.
