Fem!Reader X Female Arachne

Word Count: 3337 Explicit: No. Warnings: Spiders.

——————————————————

It’s been hard. Breakups were never easy. Your girlfriend recently broke up with you and even though you were trying – and you were trying your damnest – you still missed her. You missed her so much. So much of your heart you gave to her. You thought you loved her. Maybe even spend the rest of your life with her.

But apparently she didn’t feel the same way. You held no hard feelings towards her. Honestly, all you cared about was that she was happy. And apparently she decided she would be happier without you. And that was fine. You accepted that.

But God, did it still hurt. It still hurt when you looked at the empty space in your bed. The empty space in your closet. All the places her presence in your life once occupied were now hollow and sucked you into their depths of loneliness. Dating was always hard for you growing up. Mostly because straight people got to have all the representation and dating stuff figured out while you were on the fringes having a late start.

Not that you were in a rush when you were growing up. Honestly, you thought it was kind of obnoxious how people around you threw themselves in and out of relationships so frequently and flaunted them every chance they got. You didn’t care for it. It was annoying and unnecessary.

But somewhere deep down inside, you wanted something like that for yourself. You just didn’t have the nomenclature at the time to explain why it was so difficult for you to put your finger on what you wanted different.

That was until you met your then girlfriend and now ex. You had discovered a lot about yourself when you were with her. She helped make you into the person you were today. You wouldn’t have really known yourself as well as you do know if you hadn’t met her.

But now that she was gone, you didn’t really know what to do with yourself. You were a clothing designer at a local business and she was trying to figure herself. Eventually, she decided she needed to be on her own in order to do that.

Which you understood. That didn’t mean it didn’t hurt.

Looking in your closest, you also saw some designs you were neglecting while dealing with the freshness of your breakup. They ended up sitting there collecting dust for a bit. Your manager was very understanding. She was more than happy to let you have enough time to work through it and even let you vent to her on the phone off work. She was honestly more like family than just your manager.

Letting out a long sigh, you reached into the closet and pulled out one of the dresses you were stitching together. It was more intricate and you were even incorporating some embroidery into the design.

However, looking behind the dress, you realized that there were threads of cobwebs connecting the dress to something. And when you saw what it was, you dropped the unfinished dress and shrieked. You didn’t like spiders, even at the best of times. You never liked spiders. You thought they were uncomfortable and gross and everything about them made your nerves feel like they were getting shot.

Anytime there were bugs, you let your girlfriend deal with them. Usually, she’d just kill them unless you caught her and begged her to just let them outside. You didn’t like them, but you didn’t want to just needlessly kill them, either. After all, they were important to nature and they had a job they were good at doing.

But, since your ex was no longer here, that meant the job was up to you.

Carefully, you grabbed a glass and a paper and navigated yourself to the closet. You hesitated. You never liked it when spiders ran really quickly or made sudden movements and you were always afraid they’d end up on you or in your clothes. You’d have to check the dress you were working on just to make sure there weren’t any more hiding in there.

You slowly herded the small arthropod into the glass and quickly grabbed as much of the webbing as you could. You’d need to have a proper look at your closet before going to sleep, tonight. Nevertheless, the spider was caught and you took it outside and let it go.

Once it was outside, you couldn’t help but admire it. As much as spiders often creeped you out, some of them were such gorgeous specimens and you couldn’t help but gawk at them at times. You often found them terrifying, but sometimes you could find them elegant. You at the very least definitely had a soft spot for jumping spiders.

But this was not one of those. In fact, you recognized this species. They were fairly common where you lived and you knew that they were harmless. That didn’t stop them from making you uncomfortable, but the green, yellow, and black stripes all over its elegant form was a sight to behold.

Bidding it a verbal farewell, you retreated back into your house to continue working on your dress for your manager. Coping had to happen sometime and work couldn’t wait forever for you. Besides, maybe you facing your fear after your breakup left you without someone to deal with spiders was some sort of good luck sign.

Once you made sure there were no more spiders left in your dresses or in your closet, you got back to work, setting the dress on a mannequin and starting to stitch together the parts you neglected and plan out how you were going to embroider what patterns into the crimson fabric.

The next few days after that were a little odd. On the outside of your window, you found more webbing. Not inside, but outside your window and there were no signs of spiders. But the webs got more and more intricate. They didn’t look like ordinary spider webs and it confused you.

But, they didn’t come into your house, so you weren’t bothered. In fact, you found them rather elegant.

At first, you thought they just looked pretty. But as time went on, the more you could see something else in them. You saw shapes in the webs. Shapes of your favourite things. Strange, yet seemingly deliberate patterns. Ones you thought would actually look really lovely on a dress or another article of clothing, so you incorporated it. Your manager even noted just how much she liked the web inspired patterns on them.

More and more strange things kept happening. Not just with the webs, but objects were left on your windowsill as well. Spools of thread that looked particularly valuable and pretty. Spare needles you thought you’d lost. Spare buttons and other accessories. Sometimes small bouquets of flowers meant for a small vase. Sometimes discarded jewelry and beautiful stones and other strange and fascinating oddities.

You don’t know how you managed to capture the attention of this mystical secret admirer, but you had to admit…the attention was nice. It was nice having something to actually look forward to waking up to and come home to. Perhaps someone was simply rewarding you for your kindness. Though, you idly wondered how your ex never had things like this happen to her, before. Were you just special?

This continued on for about a month or so. Life went on. And even though you were still dealing with your breakup, going back to work as well as this strange daily routine kept you going. It made going through life in general that much easier to do. It made you feel strangely whole, again. Not all better. No, that was something only time could really do. But you felt better.

You felt like you were appreciated, again.

Then, on your windowsill, you discovered something that really you should’ve expected at some point. A folded up piece of parchment. It looked like it was rather old. It had that specific parchment texture and scent to it that made it seem like it was something out of time itself. Gently pulling it out, you opened it up and read it.

The calligraphy was exquisite. Whoever wrote this had magnificent penmanship. If it was possible for something like that to take your breath away, this certainly did. Leaning against the windowsill by your back, you read over the elegantly written paper, a smile slowly etching itself onto your face.

With tender heart and tender hand, You whisked my child off of your land. The fear was evident, our kind so fearsome. But even still, you were kind in your lonesome.

Your mate had to be persuaded by you To show mercy to those with legs more than two. But you needn’t persuade them any longer. You need not beg someone else to treat us fonder.

At first, I simply repaid your kindness. I thought it only fair for yours was honest. But now, I must confess to something curious. You have my hearts beating for you something furious.

I would like to get to know you, if you would. I understand if you are scared, I would tell you if I could. But humans only see us as something to crush. You are different. So, we can keep this under hush.

You had no idea what to say. But the blush on your cheeks was quite evident and revealed what your true feelings were. Were it not for the weird and elegant webs and other oddities since you let that first orchard spider out of your house, you’d think someone was stalking you.

Whether you actually believed it or not, whoever was now giving you all this attention was not human. And apparently that spider was its child. You had no clue who this even was, but whoever it was, they were quite the romantic. In fact, in all the years you could think back, your ex girlfriend never wrote anything this sweet or sappy.

It honestly made you feel very flattered. You were almost willing to throw yourself at your mystery spider admirer.

But, for all you knew, they could just be trying to butter you up so they could eat you. Still…they put in all this effort for you just to make you happy after you did something kind for them. It was only fair you reply back.

So, before you went to work, you pulled out a piece of paper of your own and began writing a message back to them. You weren’t sure if you could even measure up to the sentimentality of the one you got back, but you put the parchment on your desk in a place where you wouldn’t lose it. So, instead of writing a poem back, you decided to be honest. You let them know how sweet it was for them to do everything they were doing for you and how romantic the poem was.

You thanked them and you started asking questions about who they were. Your curiosity got the better of you and before you knew it, you were starting to run out of room and you opted to just wrap up your reply and folded it, setting it on the windowsill for your spider messenger to bring back to your secret admirer.

Coming back home after a long day at work, you found that your paper had been taken and the web at your window was updated once more. More patterns were added. But even sweeter, several heart shapes were woven around a rather cute one of your face.

You couldn’t remember the last time you felt this giddy. You felt like a teenage schoolgirl all over again. You didn’t even care if this was all just leading up to you getting eaten. You were actually…happy. For the first time since you were broken up with. And God damn it, you were going to take that happiness and run with it.

Another month of correspondence with your secret spider admirer had gone by. Your messages only got more intimate and sweet. Your admirer not only was interested in you, but she also seemed to want to be there for you. She wasn’t just talking you up, but she let you vent. She let you explain your woes to her and she responded with nothing less than support and kindness, assuring you of your worth and value.

Soon enough, you wanted to meet her. Damn the consequences, you wanted to see her. You wanted to put a face to the personality you had gotten to know. You wanted to know the hands that wrote you those messaged. You wanted to see the eyes that saw so much in you.

You wanted to kiss the lips that said such sweet things about you.

And, one day, you got your wish. On the next parchment you received one morning, you felt your heart leap out your chest.

She wanted to meet you. She gave you instructions and direction on where to go. Apparently she lived underneath an actual orchard. All you had to do was follow the webs of her little spiderlings. You’d know them when you saw them. They would lead the way to her home.

So, the whole day you were at the shop, you were imagining what your spider admirer looked like. You were thinking about what to wear. You definitely wanted to dress up.

As soon as you got home, you immediately set upon wearing your best outfit. One of our favourite dresses you’ve made that you just couldn’t let go of. You dolled yourself up in a bit of makeup. Not a lot. But just enough to really make your eyes pop and bring attention to your lips.

And you styled your hair in a very specific way to really bring out the volume of it.

Wearing your best shoes, you walked out of your home feeling more attractive and seen than you’ve felt in a while. Not because you didn’t know that you were attractive, because you did. Even if it could sometimes be hard to, you knew that you were attractive. But it was different when you were telling yourself than when you had someone else telling you, too.

Just like your admirer said, you did know the spider webs when you saw them leading you in the direction you needed to go. The webs pointed you in the right direction, almost like arrows.

It wasn’t too long a walk. It was a beautiful walk, actually. The suburbia started to fade out in favour of rural countryside until you found the orchard you were looking for. Apples as far as the eye could see. It was dark and the workers were likely inside after a long day of hard work. You were most definitely trespassing, but for this? You’d walk past violent armies just to meet your mystery admirer.

Coming to the middle of the orchard, you found what looked to be a pitfall. Though, it was more of a trapdoor than anything. The spiders were telling you to go here, so this was where you needed to be.

Lifting it up, you saw what your admirer was telling you in your letters to each other. She really did live underneath an orchard. And inside the caverns below, you could see light. You could also see webbing coating the ground beneath.

As much as the thought of being inside a giant nest of spiders made your skin crawl, you were willing to suffer it. Anything to know who your mystery admirer was.

So, taking the plunge, you steadily slipped down, closing the door above you, and descending into the underground.

Once on the ground underneath, you stood up, dusting the dirt off your dress and looking around at everything around you. There were torches leading you down the tunnels, but the spiders continued to weave directions for you to follow. And even more than that, there were curtains. Actual curtains. It seemed that your mystery admirer didn’t just live in a hole, but furnished it. You couldn’t wait to see what the inside of her home looked like.

Following the tunnels and spiders to where you needed to be, you eventually came into a heavily illuminated room filled with furniture. Bureaus, a large table surrounded by chairs, paintings, the like. It was almost like an underground manor.

Standing at the other side of the room was what looked like a giant orchard spider. In the underground torches, the green shimmered brilliantly against the dark contrast of the black stripes and brightness of the yellow. Hearing your arrival, the creature turned around and you got a proper look at who belonged to that arachnid backside.

A woman. Dressed in something that covered most of her seemingly human half. The robes were woven in the same colours as her body, but you could tell good craftsmanship even from afar and all you wanted was to get a closer look at the thread work.

But then, your eyes landed on her face. Fangs attached to mandibles protruded from either side of her mouth and she stared at you with eight round emerald eyes. All of which softened and warmed when they laid on you and you could see her mandibles upturn in a smile. “(Name).” She said, her voice as smooth as silk as she approached on delicate spider’s legs. As she drew closer you could see her lips hidden by her mandibles and you wondered for a moment what it would feel like to kiss her.

Suddenly, she was standing before you and you saw how much she towered over you, leaning down so she could get a proper look at you, reaching out with a clawed hand to trace over your facial features. “How I’ve waited to meet you in-person.” She cooed, tilting her head as she gazed at you affectionately. And, admittedly, you couldn’t help but melt into the hand that was currently cupping your cheek, starved for some sort of romantic affection. “You’re even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.”

Looking up at her, her shimmering raven hair draping over her shoulders as she regarded you, you couldn’t help but be mesmerized. You weren’t sure what you were imagining, but all of your fantasies paled in comparison to the real thing. “So are you.” You said in awe and reverence, your eyes flicking to her lips.

Pulling away from you, the spider woman approached one of the cupboards she had in this space and started to rifle through them. “No words can express the gratitude I have that you accepted my invitation.” She said to you, her words honest and true as she pulled out a bottle. “Could I interest you in a drink to start the night off?”

Normally, you didn’t really drink. But, one couldn’t hurt and you were a houseguest in the woman’s home. “I’d love one.” You replied, taking a seat at the table and politely folding your hands in your lap.

As the spider woman poured you a drink, you couldn’t help but be curious. In this moment of meeting your secret admirer, you realized that you don’t know her name. She knew yours, clearly. But you don’t know hers.

“I’m so sorry, I feel sorta dumb right now, but…I just realized I never asked what your name was.” You said bashfully, looking up at the woman as she set your glass down beside you, looking down at you with a smile.

“Thava.” She replied, reaching to grab your chin in her hand once again. Seemed she still couldn’t quite get enough of looking at you. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, my love.”

Returning her smile, you settled in your seat, knowing that this was the first date you’ve had since your ex broke up with you and getting comfortable with this new change in your life with Thava. “The pleasure’s all mine.”

Lazy Mornings (Bilbo x Reader)

image

Just a small drabble, I realized I don’t have much of Bilbo so I hope you all enjoy this!

Warnings: None, just fluff

Sighing contently you rolled on your side, nuzzling your face into the plush pillow you kept your eyes closed, not wanting the peaceful atmosphere to shatter by opening your eyes to the harsh sunlight that shone through a sliver opening in the curtain.

The Traveler’s Masterlist

image

Urgan had been your best friend since preschool. You were human and he was an orc, but you were both jocks growing up, both in sports, both athletic. He’d been there with you through all the major events in your life. He was there when your parents divorced, when you came out as gay in middle school, and when the teammates who had once been friends started bullying you because of it. He was always there.

You hoped you had been as good a friend to him as he had been to you. You were there when his dad died, when his mom remarried someone he hated, and when his highschool sweetheart cheated on him. After all that, the two of you were closer than brothers.

College life was easier on both of you. You both had gotten a sports scholarship and found a friend group that was a lot of fun to hang out with. Parties were epic, classes were less so, but you were living the life and loving every second of it.

Then it changed. Not for everyone, not even for you. Or at least, it didn’t have to. You could have made different choices. It would have been far easier if you had, you were sure. But…
