Soul’s Desire [Ch. 9]

“Han, it’s been 30 minutes”

Changbin lets out an irritated sigh as Han checks his phone for the 5th time. You were late, embarrassingly late, and hadn’t even let Han know beforehand.

Chan was a little upset but chalked up your tardiness to preparing for your debut.

“She’s about to debut, Bin, we gotta give her some grace”

“It’s not that she’s late, Hyung, it’s that she didn’t check in first.”

Just as a back-and-forth was about to ensue, a wild knock on the door interrupted the boys.

Chan jumped up to open the door, letting you in. Han was immediately eased by your presence, missing the way his other two soulmates looked at you with a little hesitation.

“Hi guys, so sorry! I was with my members and we lost track of time“ You smile

Chan smiles back at you politely, but Changbin doesn’t. He was still a little bothered by how you failed to let Han know you’d be late, but he tried shaking that feeling off.

“No problem, it’s nice to meet you,” Chan says, “I’m Chris”

You bow politely while giving him a firm handshake

“I’m Changbin” Maybe it’s because you two are bonded by now, but you can feel how he’s already a little suspicious of you.

He’s very polite, shaking your hand and offering you his chair, but you suddenly don’t think the guys like you as much as Han said they did.

You four settle into some slight banter. You and Han joke around while Chan and Changbin watch, adding little comments here and there.

After a while, you realize you haven’t talked to your other soulmates, so you face Chan and put on your best smile.

“Chris, Hannie told me that you’re getting into fashion nowadays. Have you figured out your style yet?”

Chan gives you a grin, “I’m not so sure. I kinda like street clothing, tighter-fitting shirts, baggy pants, beanies, and stuff like that. I’m taking advice from Innie”

You nod, “I follow you on Instagram and honestly, your whole aesthetic is so cool”

You and Chan’s conversation flows naturally after that, with you complimenting him and him blushing while shaking his head.

After a few short minutes, you move on to Changbin.

“I know this is random but I always wanted to ask you, do you have a favorite verse of yours?”

He quickly shakes his head, “No, that’s like asking me to choose between the members. I can’t have a favorite”

Changbin had a certain aura about him. You knew he was one of the sweetest, gentlest souls ever, but you could tell he was the type to be polite, yet cold with new people.

He still took care of you, offering to get you drinks and snacks when you mentioned you hadn’t eaten yet and offered to give you his jacket when you shivered, but he couldn’t be bothered to send the smallest of smiles your way.

It scared you, and you wondered what you did to deserve the stoic expression.

“Y/n, tell us about you” Chan says, almost as if he can sense the tension

“Okay! Well, I joined JYP around a year ago now, I was a trainee for six months. My favorite color is gray, my favorite food is fried shrimp, I have three cats and two dogs back home, I’m an only child, and I’m the Maknae of my group”

Han smirks once he realizes he already learned all this information about you, the other two members nod at your words.

“I have a dog too, her name is-”

“Berry” You finish, smiling, “Did Han mention I’m a STAY?”

Chan laughs, a blush on the tip of his ears, “He said something about it, among other things”

“He said that you said you always felt connected to us” Changbin starts suddenly, “Can you explain that?”

You nod with a genuine smile, “Yep! I guess, as a fan, I always felt a little…closer to you guys. I chalked it up to me being delusional but after I auditioned for JYP, and moved here and everything, my palm started to itch like crazy”

“That’s interesting” Changbin mumbles, “Our palms kinda tingled I guess?”

“Silly enough, you know how our symbols are kinda shaped like an infinity symbol?” Han asked, pointing at your hand.

You neglected to wear symbol blurring ointment, only because your members demanded to see what it looked like. You just wore an oversized hoodie and hid your hands in the sleeves.

“Yeah” You affirm, “It’s so cute”

“It didn’t always look like that” Changbin confessed, “For the longest time, it was….incomplete?”

“Then you got your symbol, and BOOM” Han narrated with a loud clap of his hands. Chan and Changbin jumped in surprise while you let out a startled laugh

He grabbed your arm and lifted your sleeve just enough to show your hand, “now all of ours look like this” he cheeses

The food came after a few more minutes of conversation. Changbin warmed up to you after you asked him about his workout regimen, finally letting his goofy and flirty nature show.

Chan led most of the conversations, and that didn’t surprise you since you knew how extroverted he was.

Han was joking or laughing about something the entire time, while you sat there and thoroughly enjoyed your time with the group.

By the end of the dinner, Changbin decided to be the one to walk you to the cab he had ordered for you.

You two were in the back of the building to avoid any fans seeing you.

“Sorry for being so cold earlier,” He said as you two walked (rather slowly) to the car.

“Oh, um, that’s okay!”

He sighs, “I was just a little upset you didn’t check in with Han to tell him you were gonna be late. I have a thing about knowing where my members are and wanting them to be safe and whatnot so checking in with one another is a big deal to me”

You hum, understanding his point of view. Honestly, you like that he’s that way, your members are usually like that as well but you guys having each other’s location eliminates having to ask where you are.

You made a mental note to make it a habit to check in with your soulmates, especially Changbin.

“I understand that, and I’ll be more mindful in the future”

You make it to the car and he opens the back door for you to get in before reaching into his pocket and pulling out money.

“You’re not paying for the cab Bin,” You say, crossing your arms

“I called the cab, you’re my soulmate, I pay”

“Well you’re my soulmate and I don’t want you paying for me”

“Too bad, that’s something you’re gonna have to get used to.”

Before you could protest some more, he threw the bills in your lap before blowing you an exaggerated kiss and closing the door.

You rolled your eyes but smiled all the way home

Knocking on the door to Bang Chan’s studio proved to be the hardest task you’ve ever faced. On the other side of the door was your soulmate, the person you were fated to be with.

On one hand, you were ecstatic, finding your soulmate was one of your biggest dreams. But on the other hand, being an idol was another one of your dreams, and what are the odds you’re meant to be with a man who’s a part of the same company as you?

You knew how big of a scandal this could be, and how much damage it would do to your respective careers. He was in one of the biggest K-pop groups in the world, and though you could already feel your affection towards him grow, you couldn’t bear to ruin everything he’s worked for.

Just as your anxiety spiked, and you contemplated running away, the studio door swung open to reveal a smiley Han Jisung.

Immediately your heart rate rose. It was silly, not only were you nervous because you were face to face with your destined partner, but also because this was the first time you both met personally.

Despite both being at JYP, the boys' schedule either had them overseas or cooped up in a studio. You being a trainee for only 6 months meant you barely had any time to meet them.

Your members met them though, Dae was even good acquaintances with Changbin, but your busy schedule (mixed with your ability to somehow miss any chance of meeting them you get) kept you away from them.

Now you stand right in front of someone who you admire and is destined to love.

Crazy how life works.

“Come in,” He says, moving to the side and allowing you to walk past. The first thing you see is Chan’s legendary laptop sitting on the desk.

Your impulsive thoughts say to touch it, but you don’t, instead, you sit on the sofa and look down at your shoes.

Han, ever so attentive to the new mark that connects you two, taps your shoulder and waits patiently for you to look up at him.

When you do, he’s wearing a kind look, “Foods gonna be here soon.”

You nod and quickly look down again, not missing the small chuckle Han lets out before he sits at the edge of the desk. There’s an awkward silence before he decides to break it

“Stop being so nervous”

“You’re Han Jisung”

“You’re y/n y/l/n”

“You’re HAN JISUNG”

“Call me Hannie” He smirks, “All the people close to me call me that”

“We’re close?”

“We’re soulmates. It doesn’t get any closer than that”

A knock on the door startled you briefly but Han walks to the door, opens it slightly, and talks to the person outside. The conversation is quick, and he closes the door after a few minutes.

“Staff?” You ask

“Yeah, my manager”

Your anxiety rises a little, “Does he know about me?”

“He definitely knows about your group, and he’s good friends with your manager, so I’d say yes”

You sigh, “Han, I mean does he know about us?”

“He doesn’t” He shrugs, “I promised you I wouldn’t tell anyone”

“Right” you nod, “Only one of my members know, we shouldn’t tell anyone else”

Han’s silence is, frankly, loud. It causes your anxiety to rise as you ponder over what’s not being said.

“There’s something you’re not telling me”

“We should get to know each other”

“Han please just tell me”

“Can’t I get to know my soulmate a little?”

With a defeated groan, you scoot over and pat the space next to you on the couch. He happily sits and isn’t shy about checking you out.

“You’re gorgeous” He sputters, “I’m a lucky guy”

Your cheeks heat up instantly, “You’re pretty nice-looking yourself”

The conversation flows after that, with you two telling stories about your predebut life, your likes and dislikes, and most importantly- what you expect from a soulmate.

“I value affection, but I understand some people aren’t affectionate,” You say, “What’s your love language?”

“Honestly I think all of them” Han answers with a small chuckle, “How about you?”

“Same! I can’t pick one. Lately, I’m into physical touch though, my members are sick of me”

This makes Han burst out laughing, and you realize just how cute his laugh is.

Once he’s calmed down, he looks at you with pure adoration, “I can’t believe this is the first time we met. How long were you a trainee again?”

“Six months” You answer, “I heard Lee Know was a trainee for only a couple weeks though?”

“That’s true! He’s so talented, I’m excited for you to meet the guys”

“Yeah, I hope they like me”

All the ease drained from you as Han gave you a weird look

“Han, you’re still not telling me something”

He sighs, “I just don’t know how you’re gonna react”

“Is it bad?” You question, your nerves causing you to tap your foot repeatedly

“No,” He says, “Just a lot to take in”

He sets a comforting hand on your knee, and you stop tapping your foot instantly.

“How’s your symbol feeling?” He questions suddenly

“It kinda tingles a little, I thought that maybe it was reacting to the bond you have with your members…?”

He gives you a small grin, “Yeah, that’s halfway right”

“Can you please tell me the whole truth?”

“…The bond is reacting that way because I’m not your only soulmate”

You were surprised, but not as much considering this theory had been in the back of your mind.

Okay, so you have more than one, crazy but not impossible.

“Okay, is it Chan and Changbin? My palm burned when I saw them earlier”

Han looked away and scratched his neck nervously, “Yeah it’s them”

“Okay, three soulmates! That’s alright, I’ll get used to it” Your tone was optimistic, and you thought Han would share the same sentiment.

Unfortunately, he looked back at you with an odd expression

“Um… what if I said there are more?”

“What? You said it was Chan and Changbin”

“It is! That’s just not it”

You groaned loudly, “Who else then?”

“…..the other five members”

You felt unstoppable as you danced along to the chorus of your new song. The crowd screamed and cheered as they listened to Dae effortlessly rap her verse, perfectly setting up Yumi to start singing her part. Penny is next, dancing across the stage while holding her notes, making it look more than easy. Hana’s right after her, and you try your hardest to not get distracted by how gorgeous her voice sounds through the mic.

She gives you a reassuring look before moving over and allowing you to take your spot at the front. You bring the mic to your lips, open your mouth… and nothing.

Your throat feels scratchy, and the only thing that manages to make its way through the mic are tiny, pathetic squeaks. The crowd turns on you instantly, booing and yelling at you. You look at your members, seeing them all wearing matching frowns.

“Y/n, are you serious?” Hana asks, disbelief written all over her face, “How long have we practiced this? Huh?”

“You seriously choose to mess up now?” It’s Penny’s turn to ridicule you. Her fists are clenched and the anger she feels is obvious.

Yumi looks devastated, “Y/n, how could you?” She doesn’t allow you to apologize, running off the stage with tears streaming from her eyes.

Most of the other members follow her, leaving only you and Dae. By now, the stage lights have turned off, but the crowd’s dissatisfaction is evident by the way they start to boo louder.

“Y/nnie” Dae starts. For a second, you think she’s going to comfort you, tell you everything’s okay, tell you it wasn’t your fault.

But she doesn’t. She only takes the mic from your hand, giving you an unapproving look, “I’m so disappointed in you” She says. Then she leaves you, all alone, on the stage.

The crowd starts to chant, making you turn around to see multiple angry faces staring at you

“WAKE UP” They call to you, making you furrow your eyebrows in confusion

“WAKE UP”

“WAKE UP”

“Y/n? Wake up” You feel a hand on your shoulder and a warm voice right above you. Your eyes open, allowing a few tears to escape.

“Are you crying? What’s wrong?” You recognize Yumi right away. She’s in her performance outfit, and three staff members stand behind her as they look down at you with concern.

A nightmare, of course.

You guys hadn’t even gone on stage yet. However, a quick look at your phone told you that you guys had about 20 minutes before it was time to perform.

You sit up on the small, leather couch you had been curled up on, and your makeup artist rushes from behind Yumi and immediately starts to fix your tear-stained makeup.

She finished quickly, and you thanked her with a small smile and a bow.

Once the alarmed staff dispersed, you sighed and got up to hug Yumi, her nervousness plastered on her face.

“I’m fine,” You say, “Just a little nightmare”

She sighs, “I’ve never seen you cry after a nightmare”

“It’s nothing” You promise, “I’m okay now”

You know your friend is not fully convinced, but Penny rushing over to you guys in a panic forces her attention off you.

“Guys, look at my hand” Your older friend urges, showing you guys her right palm

You gasp dramatically, making Yumi try to hide a small smirk

“Your hand!” You exclaim, “It’s….its…”

Penny waits for you to finish your sentence, and when you don’t, she starts to frantically wave her palm in your face. After a few seconds, you finally shrug and Yumi lets out a laugh.

“I’m confused, Pen. What’s the matter?”

“My symbol!” She reveals, “It’s gone! They made my symbol disappear”

Oh right, her soulmate symbol.

At the age of fifteen, you’re blessed with the ability to possess your symbol. If you’re lucky enough to find your soulmate and make eye contact with them, your eyes will “sparkle” and create a unique mark on the palm of your hand.

Back in the day, people obsessed over their soulmate symbols, believing that true love couldn’t be achieved unless you found your fated match.

However, as time progressed, it was discovered that most people felt more inclined to seek out others who weren’t technically their soulmates. Sure, the symbol represents true love but everyone is different.

Most people just love who they want, following their heart. Some people find their soulmates but discover that “true love” doesn’t stop at romantic love. Others find their soulmates and live blissfully with their partners.

And then there are people like you, who haven’t found their soulmate and desperately want to.

When you first joined the group, you were shocked to discover not only one of your members had their symbol, but three did. Penny, Hana, and Dae were all lucky enough to find their fated loves.

Yumi hadn’t found her soulmate, but she wasn’t that concerned about finding them. She was happy to be single, and she was happy to date whoever she liked.

Though, you were just itching to find your soulmate…literally.

Your left palm itches frequently, and it only got worse as you got to Korea. Something told you that you were meant to find your fated partner, so you wished for them every night before you went to bed.

Since becoming an idol, however, you realize that it’s important to keep up the “single” image. So if you ever found your lover, you’d have to hide your symbol.

That fact is why Penny was currently on the verge of tears, her makeup artist and Yumi desperately trying to calm her down. She loved her soulmate more than anything, being with them since they were seniors in high school.

She knew she’d have to hide her mark but whatever cream that was applied to her hand made it seem like it never existed.

“It’s just temporary” Dae groaned, walking over to you all while looking down at her hand, “The cream wears off in twelve hours”

“That’s too long” Penny stresses

Hana emerges seemingly out of nowhere, her hands in her pockets, “Well, you decided to be an idol. This is something that has to be done”

Dae and Hana were very calm about the situation, not surprising since they usually stayed cool and collected.

“Now stop freaking out. We have a performance in ten minutes and I don’t wanna go viral for one of our members having a meltdown on stage”

With that, Penny seems to calm down, albeit her frown stays on her face.

“Alright girls, let’s huddle up” Dae calls, instantly getting you five to huddle in a small circle.

“This is our first public performance, don’t get hurt, don’t get scared, and make sure to have fun” She says

You smile widely, “Don’t forget the music video comes out right after the show airs”

Dae rolls her eyes fondly, “Yes, it’s the pre-debut day, let’s be excited. May the song get tons of love”

There’s a short group hug before you five are rushed to the stage.

Your heart beats out of your chest, but you’re confident you guys will do well.

Running down the streets of Seoul while mumbling about “not starting your idol career off right” is embarrassing enough . However, the people staring at you did little to deter your journey, and you managed to make it to the company right before your bosses did.

Your manager, Rose, was less than amused when she saw you rush into the meeting room with sweat coating your face.

She was quick to have your makeup fixed, and her annoyance died down once you explained the story of your tardiness to her.

“She’s resilient” Dae laughs, “Don’t be mad at her, it’s not her fault”

Dae, forever your savior, was the oldest and the one you looked up to the most. She joined the group first, and actually helped JYP staff in picking the rest of the group. She can be a little intimidating, and even more strict when it comes to recording since she also serves as producer, but she’s a sweetheart that loves her group members.

“I told you to be here an hour early y/nnie” Hana, the responsible one, nags as you take a seat next to her. She hates being called the mom of the group, especially since she’s the second to youngest, but the way she worries for you and the members earned her that title.

You give her a quick kiss on the cheek and she feigns annoyance but smiles a little.

“Y/nnie, look at this video of my lizard!” Yumi, the animal lover and smiley member of the group exclaimed to you. Growing up between the countryside of Korea and backwoods of Georgia, she was a self proclaimed “animal whisperer” and would talk to anyone that would listen about her many pets back home.

“What color should I dye my hair next?” Penny, your group’s insanely gorgeous (and model before training to be an idol) member asked. She was definitely the wild card, going from scarily serious to super hyper to chill and collected all in thirty minutes. She was also the dance leader and Dae’s “backup” leader, and she took those roles seriously.

Rose looked out the agape door and gasped lowly, thanking the staff for fixing your makeup last minute and quickly urging them out.

As soon as they left, four of your higher ups walked in, making you five stand and bow to them immediately.

As they talked to you all, you couldn’t help but feel a sense of disbelief. Your dream was actually coming true, and you couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity.

You could only imagine what your career had in store for you.

Your boyfriend, though having random spurts of confidence that often leaves you blushing, was a very shy individual. He couldn’t take compliments, couldn’t ask for a kiss without his ears going pink, and would rather suck a pair of leather pants through a straw than tell you when he’s feeling needy.

It was usually you that initiated sex, and that was fine. You were more than satisfied, especially since he took a more dominating role in bed. However, you would listen to your friends stories about how their partners would pull them away for sex at the most random of times.

Minho rolls his eyes as you inspect the toy in your hands. You found it when you were looking through his side of the closet for a specific hoodie. Admittedly, you felt a little insecure when you found it. Minho always insisted that he didn’t need any toys because you were enough for him.

You had some of your own, but that was for when he was away. When you remembered why you bought your own toys, a smirk grew on your face when you understood why he bought his.

“So you’ve been missing me while you’re on tour?”

Though you didn’t know it was possible, the tips of his ears turned a deeper shade of red. You put the toy back in the little white box it came in, throwing it on the dresser and trying to hide the look of lust in your eye.

Minho, ever so attentive, very quickly caught onto your mischievousness and walked over to your shared bed. He didn’t have to ask if you would join him, as you were following and practically jumped on your boyfriend before he could utter another word.

Changbin

“I heard you moaning Changbin” you said lowly, doing your best to wipe your tears away before they fall down your cheeks.

You were at a nearby smoothie shop, grabbing you and Changbin some drinks when he suddenly called you. Thinking he wanted to make a last minute change to his order, you answered, but was horrified to hear his loud moans over the phone.

Given that you were only a 10 minute drive away, it took you no time to speed back to your apartment (taking that 10 minute drive down to a 5 minute one).

When you bursted through the door, you wasted no time checking the entire place for your man’s affair partner. Only thing is, you didn’t find anyone. Changbin was fiddling with his pants when you barged in, and you couldn’t find anyone in the room.

“Baby, you don’t really think I’m cheating on you, do you?” He asked, hurt laced in his voice

You didn’t know what to think, so you only shrugged and put your head down. Changbin sighed, but knew getting angry at you wasn’t the right thing to do.

Instead, he brought you to the room and stuck his hand behind the pillow, pulling out a sex toy you had never seen before.

You’ve never stopped crying so fast in your life, your eyes darting from the toy to your boyfriend as realization washed over you.

Apologies from both ends, passionate kissing, and said toy were the main ingredients for a very long night for the both of you.

Hyunjin

Hyunjin stood above you, glaring down as you laughed so hard tears came out of your eyes.

You had caught him using a very specific and familiar looking toy while practically screaming your name. To say you were flattered was an understatement, however your amusement towards the situation overpowered any other feelings you had.

Eventually, your laughter stopped and you were stuck hugging and apologizing to your pouty boyfriend. He would reveal when he bought it, why, and when he used it. You smiled throughout his whole spiel, the flattery taking over the humor.

You were approving of his occasional use of the toy, it admittedly stroked your ego and he seemed to like how interested you were.

The toy wasn’t put up until the next morning, the night filled with unrest and lust.

“Relax your face” You giggle, looking down at you and your husband’s interlaced fingers.

“Why is he looking at you?” He asks, his face twisting up more into pure disgust

You shrug and follow Seungmin’s glare, making eye contact with an admittedly handsome man. Since you guys were at an event for JYPE, you assumed the guy was either an idol, dancer, or producer. Either way, you couldn’t care less as you turned your gaze back to your husband.

“Baby forget about him” you whisper into his ear. A defeated sigh escapes his lungs as he finally looks at you

“I’m sorry,” He says, “I just get jealous sometimes”

You smile, “It’s okay. Let’s go find the members”

You two stand from the small couch you were occupying, making the handsome stranger debate whether or not he should go talk to you.

The little devil on his shoulder must have won, because he made his way over to you and Seungmin before you two could even take the steps to walk off.

“Hello,” The man says, bowing at the two of you. Politely, you bow but take notice of how Seungmin keeps his body upright. You didn’t have to look at his face to know he was absolutely fuming at the boldness of the stranger.

“Excuse me if this is rude, but I wanted to let you know that your hair is gorgeous”

You grin, instinctively reaching a hand up to play with one of your braids. You had gotten them done the day before; 30-inch knotless box braids in the color 2b, medium-sized.

You were lucky your bestest friend in the whole wide world was a hairstylist because you only spent a little over $200 excluding the tip. She also made you buy her dinner, but that’s only because she bought lunch.

A less-than-gentle squeeze of your hand pulls you out of your thoughts, and you quietly reply, “Thank you! I appreciate that”

Seungmin, ever so possessive, decides to place himself in between you and the stranger. It was silly. Your annoyingly cute husband looked beyond pissed as the stranger paid no mind to him.

“And your dress” The man continued, “It’s really pretty as well”

“Thank you” Seungmin answers before you can, “I bought it for her. Picked it out and everything”

You couldn’t help but roll your eyes and chuckle a little (earning a quick glare from your husband).

“Oh, then you must have good taste,” The man says, still looking at you, “But you can’t take credit for how beautiful her face is, can you?”

“Thank you for the compliments, but we really should be going” You rush to say before Seungmin can start talking back

“Forgive me, but I don’t think I could ever forget a woman like you. Can we meet again?”

Seungmin talks before you do this time, letting out a livid, “In your fucking dreams”

As if he could sense the tension, I.N comes out of seemingly nowhere and puts a hand on his friend’s shoulder

“Hyung, y/nnie, we’ve been looking for you two.” He says, his eyes darting between an angry Seungmin and smug looking stranger

“We were just about to come looking for you guys too! Honey, let’s go meet up with the members," you plead, tugging at Seungmin’s arm.

It takes both you and I.N. to drag him away, the stranger simply rolling his eyes and walking over to the next woman he sees.

Seungmin seethes, “Who the fuck is that?”

“The son of one of the shareholders, I think” I.N shrugs, “But it doesn’t matter. Forget about him”

“He hit on my fucking wife, right in front of me”

“And that was disgusting and disrespectful” You sigh, “But I don’t want anyone else but you. Please don’t let him ruin our night”

With a swift glance at you and I.N., followed by the growing voices of the members a few feet away, he decides to let his anger go.

However, that doesn’t mean he didn’t remind you of who you belong to later that night.
