High tide

watercolor and pen on crepe paper

Santa Barbara 1980

I have had a life long love affair with the Pacific Ocean. I did this painting years ago when I was living in Santa Barbara on the California coast. We'd go on long road trips up the coast highway. Have you ever spent the night on the beach at Big Sur? Put it on your bucket list.

I now live on the other side of the ocean on a small island in the Philippines. We go on road trips up through the coconut jungle mountains to this little beach town we know. The northern coast of the island faces the Pacific Ocean. The deep blues of the tropical sea are literally intoxicating.

black sharpie on poster board

Rosemead 2012

This drawing exists, somewhere.

I did this drawing a few years back. After I finished the drawing I took this picture of it with my cell phone and then I gave the drawing to my brother. Never a good idea but I love him and he liked it so why not. He actually had it framed and he put it up in his office at work. Prominently displayed. For a few years and then he left that job and had to clear out his office so he took it home. My brother owns a big house with a lot of piles of stuff in the attic and in the basement and in the garage and in closets and last year when I asked him if I could borrow the drawing so I could get a better picture of it he said he'd look for it and then after a day or so he told me he couldn't find it. It's buried in one of the piles somewhere he said and well, he can't find it.

So it goes my friends.

I know it's there somewhere.

Drives me nutz.

I'm glad I took the picture.

Doodle edition

Doodle Edition

My art arose from my doodling during class. I mean seriously, what else are you supposed to do during lectures? And you have a pen in your hand...

I later doodled at work. Same game different time zone.

So here are some doodles. I drew these particuar doodles at work. They were drawn with whatever pen I had at the moment on whatever paper was handy.

Doodle Edition

My ever present coffee cup staring at me on my office desk.

As a side note I have many things to be thankful for and coffee is high up o the list.

Doodle Edition

"Time to save time" God help us.

Doodle Edition

I like this one.

Doodle Edition

I like some of my doodles as much as my larger pieces. I drew this one on a Japanese post card. Not really sure why I had a Japanese post card.

I'll post more doodles later.

Cheers.

ball point pen drawing in my moleskine

Tierra Mia Coffee, Echo Park, 2016

I love Egon Schiele. I made this drawing after one of his self portraits while sitting in a little cafe called Tierra Mia Coffee in Echo Park, Los Angeles.

Btw, Tierra Mia Coffee serves a Mexican Style Hot Chocolate that is perhaps the best hot chocolate on Earth. It's so delicious. Rich and creamy with little bits of chocolate. Seriously.

Egon Schiele

It's a nice place to draw too.

Here's another drawing I did that same morning.

Thank you Tierra Mia Coffee. I miss that place.

Carrickfergus

Carrickfergus

Pen and watercolor on paper

Los Angeles 2016

Carrickfergus

I wish I had you in Carrickfergus, Only for nights in Ballygrand, I would swim over the deepest ocean, The deepest ocean to be by your side.

But the sea is wide and I can't swim over And neither have I wings to fly. Oh I wish I could find me a handy boatman To ferry me over to my love and die.

Irish folk song
