FINALLY DONE. We Had To Design An Album Cover For An Existing Album, Or We Were Allowed To Choose One

FINALLY  DONE. We had to design an album cover for an existing album, or we were allowed to choose one song as a single. I knew what kind of music I was going for, but I didn’t actually have a specific band or artist in mind for this when I started. I will for critique day, but until then, I’m mulling over Grimes, Purity Ring, Florence and the Machine, the Botanicula soundtrack, or something ambient and childish. (Maybe an 8track playlist is in order..)

But yeah, done in photoshop, I had fun with the fish, but her hair was difficult! I was attempting to have a look where everything above water was shaded and detailed in texture, but below it lost all that and became flat colors.  As for an assignment, this is finished- but I welcome any critique or ideas to experiment with for the future.

Please credit me if you remove the captions! Thank you. :)

This actually helps me feel better. I turned 25 in March and since then I’ve been feeling rather panic-y and somewhat crappy about not being anywhere yet, and being at a community college that isn’t a 4-year art college, etc etc. It’ll be okay- but seeing reminders like this really cheer me up.

@faitherinhicks tweeting a little pep talk for “older” aspiring artists/cartoonists (funny to call anyone in their late 20s “older” but that’s how it feels in comics and many other creative industries). That last tweet is important, you are not an athlete where typically your prime years are all but over by 30, if you’re consistently working on your art, you should only be improving with time and experience.
