Just Got A New Gouache Set!

Just got a new gouache set!

This is my first piece I’ve made using gouache and I loveeeeee it. I don’t really enjoy using watercolours because they’re so… watery. And I can’t stand the bleeding. And although acrylics are a step above that for me, I really hate the way it layers on pretty thick yet dries really fast so I always end up getting a really weird texture on the canvas.

But gouache…. It’s like the good qualities of both combined. It layers on flat like watercolor, but it doesn’t take like 10 minutes to dry. It has the controllability of acrylic paint while not getting the weird texture. I CAN LAYER ON TOP OF PAINT BUT STILL BE ABLE TO RE ACTIVATE IT SEPARATELY. I love it so much

I was gonna paint the hair better but ehhh I got bored I mostly wanted to paint the flowers 🌸 and the face :)

I was inspired by some art nouveau pieces I saw the other day, and i wanted to capture the sort of mood I found within those artworks. I was especially captivated by how the artists illustrated their subjects’ hair— it has a lot of movement, and it’s very distinctive of art nouveau style.

This painting I did isn’t really faithfully art nouveau, but you can see how I was inspired by it!
