Don't go after staff members because of this, for what I know they weren't even informed until later in the process. You know who this comes from.
And about the AI opt-out setting Tumblr will deploy tomorrow, I’ll just let you with the words of the person in charge of the heist:
Andrew Spittle, Automattic’s head of AI replied: “We will notify existing partners on a regular basis about anyone who’s opted out since the last time we provided a list. […] I believe partners will honor this based on our conversations with them to this point.”
So Tumblr will notify openAi and Midjourney that you wish your posts to not be used and it’s entirely up to them to comply or not. And as we know, we are talking about some of the less ethical companies on the internet (which honestly is kind of a feat), so that cute little setting will most than probably do nothing and less.
PSA: GO INTO YOUR SETTINGS NOW TO PREVENT TUMBLR USING YOUR INFO TO TRAIN AI.
Tumblr has an opt-out for third-party sharing that allows them to share your blog's information to AI models. This toggle is assuming your CONSENT by DEFAULT. Go into Settings > Blog > Visibility to turn this toggle off.

Go to your blog, click the gear at the top right, go all the way down to Visibility, and the selection tab is there.
Opt yourself out of AI scraping.
Like many sites, Tumblr is opting us in to AI scraping instead of opting us out by default, and packaging it like a kindness. We're not calories to consume. You can opt yourself out in blog settings (per blog you use).
PSA: Tumblr/Wordpress is preparing to start selling our user data to Midjourney and OpenAI.
you have to MANUALLY opt out of it as well. (on desktop the feature to opt out is NOT available on the app)
to opt out, click your blog ➡️ blog settings ➡️ scroll til you see visibility options and it’ll be the last option to toggle.
you also have to opt out for each blog you own separately, so if you’d like to prevent AI scraping your blog i’d really recommend taking the time to opt out. (source)

If you're not from the US the third party search option it's not available on the app! You must do it on desktop!
How to turn off AI data collection on mobile
1. Go to your blog settings
2. Scroll down on the first page to the bottom and go to Visibility
3. Turn on the setting "prevent third party sharing"
It really sucks that this is opt-out instead of opt-in, but we just have to work with what we've been dealt.
