I just got out of the ER and can’t afford it!! I also have have to start treatment ASAP. But I cannot afford do to so currently. I’m chronically ill with a Bloodclotting disease, lupus, chronic pain, and I’m disabled, I’m currently mostly bedridden at this time. I don’t have enough for rent, meds, or treatment OR this ER visit !!!!

My health is not well because of said stress, my flare ups are getting worse and more frequent (they’re extremely painful and leave me bedridden) this is why I’m jobless, I have endocrinologist, hematologist, and gastroligist appointments, and physical therapy to be able to use my dominant arm. I NEED ALL OF THIS, (I can’t afford this now that I’m trying to pay for bills that are behind because of said medical issues)...

Wanted to rant about something....

just before I get into this: there’s a tl;dr at the end for anyone who doesn’t have the attention span to read all of this!

in the video ‘Why Do We Get Out Of Bed In The Morning?’, I had automatically assumed that Logan would be right because... I mean, he just Is. he’s literally the embodiment of (Thomas’) Logic — of course he’s right.

but I rewatched it recently and... I noticed some things.

first off: Roman had some really solid points. And I didn’t realize this at first, because I assumed what Logan had assumed — that his thoughts were impractical and somewhat deluded.

but despite the flowery, over-exaggerated language he uses to communicate his ideas, he got them across! they’re valid ideas and you can see Logan start to see this, too, here:

(Roman: Do you think that if Mozart had only two minutes of piano practice a day, he would have been as prodigious as he was?)

his initial reaction is mostly shock from realization — maybe a bit of disbelief that he didn’t think of that, but even more incredulous that Roman thought of that, AND that it was a good argument.

(his second reaction is consideration and probably thinking of rebuttals – which he does successfully, because, c’mon. he’s logic)

and then again, here:

(Roman: What better way to learn about and appreciate the world than by seizing all it offers to its highest achieving inhabitants? If you do the same thing day in and day out, you will find that your appreciation for this life has DEPRECIATED over time.)

he’s kind of irritated here!! because he sees that he’s not going to win this easily. Roman’s giving as good as he’s getting and Logan can grudgingly admit that his arguments are decent, but he’s not very happy about it.

And the thing is that Logan has never really been challenged before — not when it came to debates, at least, because that’s his territory.

Hear me out:

During ‘My NEGATIVE Thinking’, it’s easy to tell that Virgil isn’t exactly trying. He admits it later on—

—and it’s pretty clear that Logan wins that round (so he’s RIGHT), even if he admits that Virgil brought up some good points. Virgil lacked the argumentative mindset that Logan approached the situation with, so it wasn’t really a ‘debate’ so much as it was a... chat, I guess? At any rate, he gets what he expected from Anxiety, and that’s that.

And the debate is civil for the most part, despite the usual Sanders Sides shenanigans — which we later find out is because Logan respects Virgil somewhat more than the others (who, as he says, he couldn’t imagine havingg a debate with). He sees Virgil as the ‘rational’ member of the group, second only to himself.

Now. During ‘The MIND vs. The HEART!’, there’s about as much squabbling as you would expect from two sides as different as Morality and Logic. It’s just what Logan feared — that the argument would be dominated mainly by ~emotions~ and both of them just refuse to listen to each other.

They aren’t debating so much as they are yelling, and it isn’t until Thomas steps in that they realize what they’re doing is hurting him, and only then does it stop.

but even then, Logan isn’t wrong, nor is he being challenged, necessarily. Both he and Patton learn to compromise and they put the issue behind them.

Now, compare these two interactions: Logan, when faced with a debate with Virgil and Patton respectively, behaves differently when offering his points. He views Virgil as a more rational individual — an ‘adult’, if you would. It’s clear he sees Patton more as a child, and treats him as such. He doesn’t listen to Patton’s arguments and doesn’t concede them like he did Virgil’s. He’s already formulated his opinions on the others and it reflects in how he presents himself and, additionally, how he behaves toward them.

Which is why he gets major whiplash from arguing with Roman.

Because going in, it’s pretty clear that Logan isn’t all that invested in the argument; he imagines that he’ll lay down his points and effectively destroy anything Roman has to offer within minutes. He perceives Roman more or less in the same way he does Patton — childish and immature. Logan and Roman are nothing alike, in Logan’s mind. He heads into the debate with this preconceived notion of how Roman thinks and what he’s like and says to himself, this’ll be easy.

So he’s not ready when Roman comes at him wiTH THE FORCE OF A THOUSAND SUNS and starts BLASTING out counterarguments — GOOD counterarguments — with a passion to rival his own — and it throws Logan off! (Well, the validity of the counterarguments do, at least; the passion was no surprise) Because he wasn’t expecting this from any of the sides, really, let alone Roman; Roman, who he’d thought of as... what was it?

Yeah, that ^^

So we start to see Logan taking the argument — and ROMAN — more seriously, because Roman’s arguments hold weight and it’s the first time that Logan’s ever been really challenged. He’s forced to take a step back and take what’s being said into consideration, because to ignore it would be illogical. He’s forced to admit sometimes that maybe. MAYBE. he was wrong in this one instance. It’s the first time in any of his debates that he’s done this, and it’s also the first time that he had to reappraise his own arguments AND his own opinion on one of the Sides.

BECAUSE THEN THOMAS COMES IN WITH THIS BANGER OF A LINE:

and Logan realizes that maybe he and Roman aren’t as different as he originally thought!!! Roman isn’t stupid, he just... communicates his ideas in different ways, and those ideas can be valid and beneficial!

(Sometimes. On occasion.

Rarely.)

Anyway, I just really liked this video, and it was definitely interesting to see Logan’s understanding of Roman’s character grow. Hopefully this will happen with the others as well!!

(And sorry for the long rant, I just have a lOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT THIS)

TL;DR: Roman shed some light on different ideas and arguments that Logan hadn’t considered, and Logan was maybe just a tiny, TINY bit wrong. Like. An infinitesimal amount.
