Honestly, That Ask Really Just Shows Just How Easy It Would Have Been For Certain Companies To Respond
Honestly, that ask really just shows just how easy it would have been for certain companies to respond properly to AI questions -- that is, to say, in a shorter post:
While I can't stop you, not only do I disprove, but I have *explicitly banned AI from this challenge.* If you acknowledge the rules of no plagiarism and no AI, and use AI to generate your 30,000 words regardless, you will at least be forced to admit to *yourself* that even if you didn't consider it as such before, you are, in fact, *cheating*. And, in doing so you are not only defeating the point of the community challenge, but also harming your fellow writers and artists every time you put more info in and get more info out of the Plagiarism Machine. If you decide not only to *cheat* in the challenge, but also then go on to proudly brag about how you used AI to generate your work, or post content like images that are clearly AI generated..... well, that's on you when you find yourself blocked by a few thousand writers and artists at once, isn't it? This community event has no formal submissions, so it is based on the honor system -- and that, of course means that when you choose to break the rules.... you'll feel it when you *break that code of honor.* Maybe you won't notice it at first, but you definitely will when you find yourself suddenly unable to interact with a few hundred accounts from cool authors and writers, who are all happily chatting and exchanging ideas -- all while your posts in the tags receive 0 notes because you don't realize it but everyone's blocked you....

More Posts from Novella-november

Okay, was gonna happily announce that the Tumblr Community "Novella November" was approved!
........ but apparently communities have a maximum member count of 500 people. Which. Considering my main post has a little over 9k notes, I've decided I'm going to let the Community sit for now until Tumblr has them more fully developed --
-- I do NOT want the community to turn into some kind of "exclusive club", and you also can't post from sideblogs at all, so the Community *does* exist, but it'll be empty for now until Tumblr gets the Community feature more up and running.
That's also the same reason I have a Discord all set up but haven't invited anyone -- other than this simple Tumblr Blog for posting information, resources, ideas, etc, I don't want ""Novella November"" to become something that has an "official community" or anything that would lead to it becoming insular or 'exclusive', where anyone is in a position of authority over anyone else.
So, as was the original and still best plan, if you want to be in the Novella November Community, please feel free to tag your posts both on and off Tumblr as "#Novella November" "#NovellaNovember" etc, and if you're on Tumblr and you've got questions to need advice, feel free to @ me on your post or ask here, and I'll reblog for more reach :)
Novella November is for all :D
I noticed in your plans that all of them focused on prose. Is it possible to have at least one month focussing on poetry?
All of the proposed challenges could easily be converted from Prose to Poetry, the real question would be -- what would the goal be? Simply writing a single poem? Writing one poem a day? (could be really fun!) Writing a poem of a specific word or page count?
If anyone has any ideas of specifics, please feel free to comment! I think a challenge of writing a poem every day of the month could be really fun, the hard part would probably just be deciding which month it takes place in.
Gotta have a catchy name! :P Anyone got any ideas?
Oh, and if anyone designs Goal Cards for November and posts them, please feel free to @ me, I would love to boost your designs :)

I am definitely checking this one out first that sound so fun honestly! and a good way to measure words per minute!

If computer class in middle school had actually taught me to type properly on a keyboard I would be unstoppable!
As it is, that course did not last long and did not leave a lasting impression...
As we approach November, does anyone have any links to free online videos or courses that teach you how to type "properly" on a keyboard?
I can type with my eyes closed / without looking if I have already started typing, but even as I am typing this I'm aware of the fact that I am only using like, three to four fingers on my left hand (dominant) and only using weirdly enough my middle finger on my right hand to type and I have no idea where or why this is how I type, but I would love to be able to learn how to fully use both hands and all fingers to type on a keyboard. I type pretty fast as is right now (my old computer I literally typed faster than the computer could handle and would have to sit there watching it load the text on screen before continuing) but I like to imagine flying through an entire page of dialogue as fast as my mind can think of the words because I am actually fully using both hands lol.
I can also imagine that using just one finger to type with my right hand is probably gonna cause some weird issues down the line ...
All the above! Which is why I am trying to emphasize that Novella November is about the journey and friends; if you don't make the 30k word goal in 30 days, don't sweat it! Just pick back up where you left off, or reduce your daily word goal to something more manageable for you and your needs! 💙
The ai shit with nano imo really emphasizes the more toxic part of nano that I was starting to notice overtake the whole month
I've seen people really sacrifice a lot for NaNo--skipping classes, staying up late every single night of the month--and there was an attitude some had that if you missed the first few days, there was no point in doing it all because you wouldn't be able to catch up in time.
The spirit of NaNo should have always been that it was just a fun challenge. The process of writing and the community surrounding it was supposed to be just as fulfilling as hitting the goal--if you could. I remember the first time I attempted it when I was 14, and it was fun even if you got nowhere near 50k! You got to talk about writing, and you got to share your story ideas, and you got to read about other poeple's wips.
But when I was hearing that people were ruining their sleep schedule or sacrificing their education or personal health all for the sake of 50k, it starts to feel like "winning" was more important than anything else. And it started to turn writing into an all-consuming, unhealthy thing for some people.
I was starting to question everything about NaNo a few years ago because it was starting to get elitist how people were talking about their novels. And then how it felt like the people winning were holding that 50k to be more important than anything.
And it's just my experience, I know, but when I tried getting into forums on the site a few years ago--they were dead. When I joined a Discord server, no one wanted to talk to each other but really just wanted to talk at one another. I was seeing a lot of pretentious bragging about hitting word goals and then when people wanted to genuinely connect and talk--silence.
It was like if you couldn't get your ego stroked, there was no point in talking.
And now that the org has said that AI is okay to help hit 50k, I think that that really sums up the shift in attitude I was seeing. It's not about the process anymore. It's not about finding a spot in a community. It's not about having fun. It's about getting a badge on the internet and bragging rights.
I know there's people still out there who genuinely keep up the spirit of NaNo (though those people seem to be moving on lol), and those people are going to be the backbone of whatever comes next. I really hope that this whole thing starts a resurgence in community-lead events that are completed for fun and not clout.
