Vi is such a fantastic character because she's buff, and she's allowed to be buff. Like she's not "girl buff" with giant tits and a giant ass and then just vaguely defined arm muscles (and I mean "girl buff" as in how television depicts women who are supposed to be muscular, like superheros and soldiers and athletes.) She's a great character for a bunch of other reasons, too, but I'm tired of the media being too scared to give female characters genuine muscles (and combat skills that aren't completely reliant on just speed or agility instead of strength—or their ability to seduce men and catch them off-guard enough to beat them.)

as a retrospective and as a masculine woman who’s been into weightlifting since childhood - it’s so cool to see a show like arcane that’s so wildly popular have a female protagonist with a muscular build that isn’t presented as “hey look at this freak”

Can I just say: Arcane giving us bigger girls, girls that are allowed to be muscular without being sexualized, girls who have big thighs and strong bodies that actually represent what strong bodies can look like, has been so inspiring and impactful to me.

I just... I love it.

Unpopular Opinion Time

Yang Xiao Long doesn’t need washboard abs and drawing them on women furthers an unhealthy view on what a healthy body looks like.

Seriously. You know those “washboard abs” you see on bodybuilders and in some movies? It’s brought about by dehydration. Bodybuilders and actors will have to go for a day with minimal (if any) fluids to bring about that “look” and it takes a toll on their bodies. Real muscular men tend to be solidly built and may even look a tad chubby compared to the “washboard ab” look… but they’re able to do far far more with their strength and endurance. 

Yes, I understand the rivalry some fans have between Yang and Sun, and giving her “washboard abs” is a part of this fanart rivalry between the characters… but Sun shouldn’t have washboard abs, and neither should Yang. Let them look natural and healthy.

This has been my unpopular opinion. You may now return to the regularly scheduled opinions and commentary….

Okay, so we all know Gaara is quite slender, right? BUT I actually headcanon that he has quite broad and muscular shoulders (at least compared to the rest of his body) because there's No Way he could have spent all these years hauling around that massive gourd without sturdy shoulders. One of my all time favorite tropes for Sakura is that she is super buff <3 And it was an absolute shame they didn’t make Sakura buff as fuck in Boruto, and even Tsunade! Like you expect me to believe that these people, who can crush mountains with their fingers if they felt like it, don’t have stack of muscles on them but are lean??? The most buff people on the whole entire planet??? And their muscles aren’t animated to show that???? I call bull on multiple accounts, they should be ripped motherfuckers that intimate the enemies by looks alone! 

(Not that they don’t already do that, but the muscles would be nice, really add to it)
