Hm well okay. Here goes nothing. The gaangs opinion on Aang starting a fruit pie bakery after the war?

unlike his terrible sleep schedule during the war, once aang gets a little bit older he gets into the habit of waking up with the sunrise to meditate. it was a practice uncle iroh recommended to help center himself, and it really does soothe him, especially after rough nightmares. after he’s done meditating, he finds that he still has enough time to make some fruit pies before starting the day. thus begins aang’s fruit pie delivery service. wherever and whoever he’s visiting that day gets some complimentary fruit pies, courtesy of the avatar. he doesn’t bake fruit pies every day, but he tries to as often as possible, because not only is it a nice thing to do, it’s specifically something gyatso would do, and it helps aang feel closer to him in this world that is gradually becoming less and less unfamiliar.

katara really loves aang’s fruit pies. she has a huge sweet tooth, so that’s unsurprising. unfortunately, she rarely ever gets to actually bake with aang, because it’s an early morning tradition for him, and katara cannot truly function before noon, but sometimes aang will make exceptions and make another batch in the evening, just so that katara can join him.

sokka thinks aang’s fruit pies taste great, albeit slightly inconsistent. there are definitely days where they taste better than others, and he doesn’t really understand why. he’d never ask aang though, because he doesn’t wanna offend him, so he just enjoys each fruit pie as he receives them. and then one day he helps aang out in the kitchen, and he realizes something world-shattering: when aang bakes, he doesn’t actually measure his ingredients. he just eyeballs it and hopes for the best. sokka tries to explain to aang that baking is a science and you need proper tools, but aang just thinks that’s silly. sokka gives aang a set of measuring cups and aangs just like “awww! a toy for momo to play with!!! how cute!! thanks sokka :D”

toph is banned from helping aang bake because she just eats all the uncooked dough and fruit and cream while aang’s not looking, greatly limiting their supply of pies they can actually cook by the time the process is done. she has no regrets.

zuko wants to help aang bake but he kind of has the same problem baking as he does with making tea (only magnified, because baking takes even longer) which is that baking requires a whole lot of tedious steps and it’s boring and he’s bored. iroh’s like “patience is an important value, zuko. think of it as part of your training” and zuko’s like “okay, yeah. it’s just like meditating, or firebending katas.” but he still doesn’t understand why he has to wait for it to bake. can’t he just heat the pies up really fast with hotter fire and be done with it??? the fact that sokka happened to be watching out of a paranoid suspicion that zuko might accidentally burn down the kitchen is, in fact, the only reason that zuko does not accidentally burn down the kitchen.

suki is aang’s ultimate fruit pie baking buddy. she loves baked goods, she doesn’t care about following strict recipes and all that measuring cup bullshit, she’s very disciplined, and every time she suggests a new ingredient to experiment with it always ends up tasting amazing. she’s the only person aang trusts to actually make fruit pies when he’s not around, which is a huge honor for her because she knows that being given the opportunity to continue an air nomad tradition is not a responsibility to take lightly. but she’s always done a great job of carrying on the avatar’s legacy, and this time is no different.

bonus round!

mai loves helping aang bake, especially when she gets to use knives to cut up fruit really precisely, and also when she gets to eat the fruit pies directly from out of the oven. mai loves baked goods, and she loves hanging out with aang, so it’s really an ideal scenario for her. that said, sokka is deeply upset that mai is also anti-measuring cup. mai thinks measuring cups are boring and make the whole thing less fun and it’s a waste of time, and sokka thinks mai is insane, just like all the rest of them. it’s the biggest fight the two of them ever get in, and yes that includes the time they threw knives at each other in the forest.

ty lee normally doesn’t like eating too much sugar, since it’s basically like baby meth (that’s what her homeopath said), but she’ll make an exception for aang’s famous air nomad fruit tarts on rare occasions, because it makes him happy to see her eating them. and if she secretly thinks that they’re far too sweet, she’ll never admit it to anyone as long as she lives.

aang offers azula a fruit pie one time without even really meaning anything by it. even people who murdered him are deserving of his delicious baked goods! but azula immediately assumes that aang laced it with poison (not lethal poison, obviously, but definitely some sort of laxative that would make her shit for hours) and she rudely declines. aang is deeply wounded, having never been so cruelly rebuffed before, until he learns that azula assumed that aang laced it with laxatives, at which point he’s like “damn that is brilliant! why didn’t i think of that??!” unfortunately for both of them, though, azula just threw a perfectly good fruit pie in the garbage.

I have a theory that if you're bad at cooking from scratch, it's probably because you currently:

1) suck at math and/or science

2) have performance anxiety

3) are over eager, impatient, and can't follow directions

So when I think about people who I know that can't cook from base ingredients, it seems that 3 is the problem a majority of the time while people who just don't attempt to even try typically have 2 or are simply lazy or don't have the time. Rarely does 1 apply, but some people really can't comprehend the difference between a simmer and a boil or burnt vs crispy.

Canonly, Hinata is a great cook, and I figure she most likely has been making her own clan ointment in batches as needed since she was fairly young, which shows she's good at concocting things in general. She has a good eye for details like that, byakugan or no byakygan, and could probably tweak first time borrowed recipes to make them even more satisfying and personalized for whomever she's cooking for, because she's sweet and notices and cares enough to do so and I love that <3 She also probably actually enjoys cooking since it's one way to show her love but it's very fun if you enjoy food in general!

I highly doubt Kiba has the patience to cook a good, balanced meal from scratch, but he certainly could manage to not burn instant or microwavable foods, and maybe make like... okay spaghetti or meat dishes with not too many sides. He'd probably grill pretty well, yet marinating would not be his forte. Though being somewhat feral, he'd probably be one of those people who'd eat literal raw steak, ew. And even if he could muster the patience, I feel like 2 would apply because he'd probably only put in more effort in order to impress someone, causing mistakes here and there. Nothing wrong with a simpler meal of course, but I don't think he'd make good sauces or use spices very efficiently without a lot of practice, haha. Like, I bet he'd struggle some trying to make tonkatsu for the first time, sauce and all. rip lol

As for Shino, I feel he has the potential to be an excellent cook as well. None of the above apply. However, Shino is a delicate type when it comes to his physical inner workings, so he probably wouldn't be super practiced beyond simple and fresh or mild foods like salads or not-so-spicy stir fry, maybe some homemade glazes and dressings if he cared for them (because forget store bought, he probably likes some control over it's contents as well for his sensative self). Unless he used to cook special for Shibi more frequently before he also got busy with ninja life, assuming Shibi isn't as delicate as Shino. Or maybe he still does, which would be really cute and extra special <3

Hcs for Class 1-A’s “Sugar Man” Satou Rikidou

Literally, no one asked for these but I don't care, I love him, you can all meet me in the pit. Put him in your fics you cowards.

- Very very very patient & quiet

- Bc of this he couples well with Bakugou & can handle his temper whenever they bake together

- They started baking together one day after fighting over who could use the oven in the dorms. Bakugou wanted to know what the fuck he could be making that took an hour and a half to cook when all he wanted it for was to cook some chicken breast for his dinner.

- Satou calmly explained he was baking a very time sensitive & complicated recipe from his Nonna that involved baking multiple layers of cake at different temperatures and allowing them to cool

- Bakugou took an interest in the dessert he was baking & decided to wait around & try it since he wouldn’t be able to use the oven for a while anyway. Bakugou likes how straightforward Satou is & the talent he has for baking, considering it’s the one field of cooking he could never really perfect (too precise of measurements for his liking). 

- Bakugou also really respects the time and effort Satou puts into his baking & analyzing the ways in which different types of sugar affects his quirk.

- Now they bake together at least once a week, and Satou would never tell him, but he always picks easy recipes to make with Bakugou so he doesn’t blow everything up if things don’t go as planned.

- Carbohydrates are good for his quirk because it takes the body a while to process the sugar that carbohydrates eventually turn into, therefore the effect is more longlasting.

- However, it also takes a while for the sugar to kick in and isn’t as strong in effect, which is why baked goods, not just merely bread or pasta, are best for his quirk. Carbohydrates with a high pure sugar content give him both strength and the immediate results he needs but prolongs his strength enough that he doesn’t just burn out halfway through a fight.

- Speaking of his Nonna, Satou is half Italian and his family owns a chain of extremely boujee Italian dessert cafes scattered across central Tokyo.

- His mom’s side comes from southern Italy while his father’s side is Japanese.

- The one his family runs specifically & the one he works at in the summer is basically just filled with his extremely buff Italian-Japanese family.

- If one of them ingests too much sugar that day, trying the products or eating the ones they had to throw out from the day before, they get a little scrappy and it might result in some lighthearted play fighting between the cousins.

- He comes from a very loud big family but he is very quiet and reserved himself. He always found it hard to speak up amongst them and was content with just kind of staying in the background growing up.

- This, of course, all changed when he became the star of the family by getting into UA. His family was so shocked, he had never told them he was applying to UA let alone that he wanted to be a hero. They were of course very proud and immediately invited everyone over for a huge family dinner, cousins and all, to celebrate.

- He has one older brother who is a pro-hero in Italy, and several little sisters. 

- He looks up to his brother a lot and often visits him and his Nonna back in Italy during Christmas time (she is very catholic & would have it no other way).

- He is extremely protective of his younger sisters. In fact, the only time anyone in 1-a has seen him even remotely angry is when Mineta cracked a joke once about his sisters when he was talking to Kouda about his family. He kicked Mineta in the stomach, launching him halfway across the classroom, and when Aizawa found out why he just shook his head and walked out of the room muttering “well it’s not like he didn’t deserve it”

- His Nonna was the only person not shocked when she found out he was going to an elite school to become a pro-hero. She merely said she always thought he would become a hero because he was simply too kind and had too big of a heart to be anything else.

- Satou prefers hanging out with Kouda but he’s one of the only people in 1-a to actually have been offered by Bakugou to hang out with him and the rest of the Baku squad™ (albeit it was a very lowkey typa offer & Kirishima might have suggested to Bakugou that he invite Satou since he always saw them baking together) 

- He likes them but finds them very high energy doesn’t like how Kaminari enjoys testing Bakugou’s patience, not that he dislikes Kaminari, he just doesn’t like Bakugou when he’s pissed off. And Mina is nice but again, just very high energy & asks him too many questions about, well, everything. 

-When he does hang with them he normally gravitates towards Sero, the only person who seems to temper Kaminari’s chaotic playfulness.

- He makes vegan baked good for Kouda sometimes but prefers sticking to traditional recipes passed down through his family

- Obviously, speaks both Japanese and Italian fluently. (He also does really well in English class, better than even Yaomomo and Iida because Italian is a Latin-based language like English).

Uuuuuhhhhh, that’s all I got friends, sorry 80% of this is based off the headcanon of him being Italian lmao. It just makes sense to me :P (lmk if you got anymore hcs for him or any other kiddos in 1-a, I love hearing them!! And I have a lot of my own!!)

I ABSOLUTELY suck at cooking no matter how hard I try! I dunno why. So...how would the ROs react to a sweet Mordred you cooked smth for them. The food looks pretty good but the taste?? God will yeet you out of your mortal coil. ^^;

Gawain - tries his best to eat it, makes a show of saying how much he likes it. He can't hurt Mordred's feelings! And they made it with love, so that's what matters.

Elaine - tries her best. She really does. But the moment she bites into it, it shows on her face how awful it tastes. She insists otherwise, but she's not very convincing.

Galahad - stoic face, the only thing that may betray him are his watering eyes. Tries to say something good about it when Mordred asks how it is.

Sophie - tries it and immediately chokes on it. She'll be honest - it's not the best, but she absolutely appreciates it. Maybe just let it to the cooks? Or perhaps she can hire a chef to teach Mordred how to cook.

Nimue - tries her best to keep a calm face, and manages, quickly hiding any grimace with a smile. She suggests they cook together next time. So she can give Mordred some pointers and find out how they managed to cook this.

Isac - takes a bite then tries to distract Mordred with flirting so they forget about the food

Agravain - attempts to compliment them even as it's clear they don't like it, then finally admit it and say they really appreciate it despite the taste
