the fact that police on the scene
did not stop the shooter from entering the building
saved their own kids and left other kids to die
handcuffed and pepper sprayed parents trying to save their kids
is the reason why I truly believe that no matter how bad a situation is, calling the police will not improve the situation. even in a worst case scenario where I might die, I don’t think I would ever call them.
when talking police abolition a lot of people will (often in genuinely good faith) ask what we would do without them in these specific horrific cases of the mass shooter. and the answer is– we would have to try our best to save ourselves and each other, just like we already do now, but without the threat of being handcuffed, pepper sprayed, or reported to ICE while doing so.
The situation is horrific, but we are more able to survive and help others to survive without the presence of police. I think it’s scary to acknowledge that, because we want there to be someone who we can rely on to save us, and so it’s easy to let ourselves believe that police are that someone. but they aren’t. and internalizing that we’re already on our own against that type of violence and harm is hard. but once we can internalize it, we can start figuring out ways to prevent, mitigate, respond to, and heal from this sort of harm together.
Trans people have been warning for years that the bans on transition care for young trans people was never going to be the end of it.
Reactionaries used y'all's fear and ignorance around trans children as a wedge to get in and justify banning transition related care for all trans people of any age. This was always the goal, to morally (and legally) mandate trans people out of existence.
And y'all fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Y'all ignored the decades of research proving transition care is safe and effective for trans people of all ages, including trans children, and believed the propaganda claiming doctors were "experimenting" on trans children, because oh this thing is new and scary to me so we gotta stop it until we figure this whole thing out! Fuck you.
I don't want to hear another terf or transphobe justify their "opposition" transition care by saying "oh well I have no problem with adults doing what they want I just don't ~~~experiments~~~ on kids" fuck you, you knew exactly where this was going the whole time don't play dumb. I'm tired of this shit.
Trans people knew it was going to happen and reactionary fascists knew it was going to happen, so what's your excuse?
Happy fucking Pride Month.
🗣The United States Supreme Court is a corrupt, depraved, illegitimate institution.
This country claims to be democratic but 9 unelected people who's values and opinions formed decades prior, who can get into this position without strong or even any valid credentials, can decide to negatively impact or even destroy millions of lives and they cannot be held accountable for it. They can't be impeached or voted out. It's only the most convoluted combination of election-year voting, voter suppression/lack thereof, and idk fucking cowardice from both sides that got any of them to where they are now. 9 people who are cemented in their beliefs and then use the law and constitution to justify their moral opinions that they insist don't influence their rulings at all. We can't vote then out. We just have to hope they retire or die under the presidency of someone who doesn't want to actively kill everything, and eve then we have to contend with any given republican or spineless Democrat in the Senate.
And even then, we cannot get rid of them. Nine people make decisions for 300+ million, affecting their ability to defend themselves, to live peacefully, to lead healthy and happy and safe lives. Nine people can ruin lives for decades to come.
Nine people. Nine. People.
Every time I think I've fully grasped the perversion of American police they surprise me, there truly is no end to the new methods of depravity at the disposal of these fucking pigs
