"Are you sure you want me here tonight?"
Jason stands at the doorway, looking unsurely at the pile of pillows, blankets, and your clothing that you've constructed into a semblance of a nest on your bed.
"Of course I do," you say, fluffing a pillow. "What side d'you want?"
Jason frowns harder and takes a step back. "I think I should go home tonight. I don't—what if I... what if something happens? What if I hurt you?"
"You won't hurt me, baby," you tell him, and draw the blinds closed. "You never have, remember? Batman monitored you when you came back."
"A hundred other things could go wrong—"
"And we've planned for that, Jay," you say gently. "But it's unlikely, remember? It's just like any other shift."
It's quiet for a long time. You finish setting up, until Jason speaks again.
"I'm so ugly."
You turn in alarm. "What? Jay, what are you—"
"I'm not one of those TV wolves you see on Animal Planet. I came back wrong. I'm scarred and my eyes glow horribly and I've got big teeth and a-a monster's face, and—"
"Hey." You put your hands on his face. His eyes slip closed and he leans into your touch. You rub your thumbs in circles on his cheeks.
"You're not a monster, Jason," you say, the very word upsetting you. "I don't care what you look like, alright? You don't scare me. You make me feel so safe, actually. Doesn't matter what form you're in."
His eyes fly open. "I don't wanna lose you," he says desperately.
"Oh, honey. Is that what you've been worried about? Jay, this isn't going to change anything between us. Even if something goes wrong, you won't lose me."
Jason stares longingly over your shoulder, at the bed. You smile and tug his hands.
"C'mon, we'll get comfy."
Jason stops at the edge of the bed. It's close.
"If something happens, don't hesitate," he says. "Protect yourself."
"It's alright," you soothe, reaching to run your hand through his hair. "Everything will be fine, Jay."
The shift is quicker than you expect. The moon rises to its highest point and there's the crack of bone and muscle, something that Jason assured you didn't hurt but you're still doubtful.
He's big as a wolf, bigger than his human self. It's true, he doesn't look exactly like a traditional wolf.
For a moment, when his eyes land on yours, your heart skips a beat. You understand who you've just entrusted your life with.
Jason tips his head uncertainly, and backs up. You reach out a hand.
"It's okay," you whisper. He'd told you his senses are on overdrive in this form. "Jay, it's okay. C'mon up."
Despite his size, the bed only creaks a little bit. Jason herds you to the center of the bed and then completely curls around you. His tail hangs off of the bed. You're dwarfed in his fur. You can tell he's trying hard to be as gentle as possible. He still hasn't relaxed, obviously waiting for the tiniest hint for you to push him away. The thought breaks your heart.
You wrap your arms around his neck and push your face close to his snout, nuzzling his head. Jason whines softly.
"No one I'd feel safer with," you whisper, and kiss the patches of scarred skin that have no fur. "And y'know what? You're way better than those Animal Planet hacks."
Jason chuffs, warm breath fanning your ear, and you squirm at the tickle. You burrow deeper into him, and Jason hesitantly accepts you, finally letting himself relax.
Jason keeps you warm the whole night.

hi! this is my first time requesting but i saw you wanted to write for jason?
so how about jason cuddling with reader in his apartment, when dick or tim etc come to get him for a mission and catch him with the reader? i’m thinking a whisper-shouted squabble while they try not to wake the reader up lol 😭
could be a one shot or anything you like!
I love this
The window slowly opening caught Jason's attention. He went through a sequence where he could attack the intruder while keeping you sleeping so peacefully. The slight shifting stopped once he heard a familiar, annoying voice.
"Jason? Are you--Ow!" Tim's voice was cut off as a coaster hit his face. The teen glared at Jason and was about to cuss at him before he saw you and Jason cuddled on the couch. You shifted slightly and snuggled closer to him. Jason put an aggressive finger to his lips, his other hand on your lower back, glaring right back at Tim.
"What do you want?" He hissed. Red Robin looked between the two lovers and a grin slowly took over his face. One that meant Jason was never going to live this down.
"B needs your help." Tim whispered, hands up in a placating gestured. "Something's happening in Crime Alley--"
"Take care of it yourself." Jason's whisper made Tim pause. Jason? Not wanting to take care of things himself? Impossible. Was your influence on him really that strong? Tim looked at you again.
"You're giving us permission to enter your territory?" Tim put up an arm, gesturing to you, still snoozing, head on Jason's chest. "Because of them?" Jason's glare turned down right deadly. He picked up another coaster from the coffee table.
"Just get out already!" He scowled. You shifted, causing both of them to stop and hold their breath. You moved your hand slowly rubbing your eye before resting it by your head. They both relaxed. Until you spoke.
"Is there someone else here?" You lifted your head and looked at Tim. Jason let out an annoyed sigh, making you look at him with a frown. He felt his heart clench. "Why is there a vigilante in the living room?"
"I don't know but he's leaving." Jason looked pointedly at Tim. He held his hands up. You sat up and Jason grunted as you pushed on his chest to climb off of him. "Dammit." You ignored him, looking at Red Robin.
"Hey, look, I just came here to tell Re-Jason. Something." He turned towards the window to go. He put his hand up to the comm in his ear. "Red's busy." He listened to a response before looking at you, who was still looking at him with a tired confusion. He smirked at Jason who groaned and flopped his head back.
"Dammit." Jason got off the couch and put a hand on your shoulder, leaning towards you to whisper in your ear. "Hey, go to bed, I need to talk with him real quick." You leaned towards him, gently bonking your head against his, turned, kissed his cheek and left the room. Tim watched the whole thing with a shit eating grin.
"They're cute." Tim knew he was getting on Jason's last nerve. It was in the way he grit his teeth and clenched his fists. "Listen, I'll just tell them you got caught up with some goons or something." Jason sighed and rubbed his forehead.
"Give me a few minutes." Jason entered the bedroom to see you curled up and snoring softly. His heart fluttered and he smiled. It was quickly wiped when he remembered he came in here to change into his gear. He sighed in annoyance and quickly threw on his armor.
"--and they were--oh, gotta go." Tim quickly shut up, noticing Jason coming back into the living room, Red Hood gear on. "You know you could just stay." Jason squinted his eyes at the teen.
"Whatever, let's just go." He pushed past Red Robin and climbed out the window onto the fire escape. Tim followed. They both grappled away, Tim going two buildings over while Jason only went one over.
"I'm here." He called into his comm. "What--" He was cut off.
"Who's the lucky person?" Dick's voice was full of smug joy. Jason glared through his helmet in the direction of Tim, who was now gone. He was going to actually kill the kid this time. Once he catches him.
sanne i know nothing about these men but… somehow i know you’ll do something so delicious with that little panicked reach for them (ready to catch them at all costs) if they trip ever so slightly + jason todd…. or dick if he fits better :] they’re vigilantes right like surely the reflexes are turned up to 11

"...And I was telling her about this new coffee shop that had just opened, and she wants to bring her stupid boyfriend! Like, what is that about?"
Dick smiles as you walk backwards, cup of froyo in one hand, bag in the other. He's offered about a hundred times to carry both, but you refuse, insisting he needs to save his strength for patrol.
That had earned you a very unimpressed look.
"Not to play Devil's advocate, honey, but you also have a boyfriend—watch the pole!"
You dodge the telephone pole before you ram into it. The close call does nothing to discourage you from continuing to walk backwards. Dick shakes his head.
"Sure, fine, but you're actually fun to be around, Gray."
"I'm glad you think so, sweetheart, I really do try. Hot dog cart!"
You walk around said hot dog cart. Dick sighs at you, fondly exasperated.
"Can't I persuade you away from walking backward, dearest darlingest?"
"I'm practicing for my initiation into the Titans," you say. "Anyways. Where was I? Oh, yeah. If you met this guy, you'd get it. He has the personality of desk gum."
"Is that gum you keep in your desk, or..."
"It's the gum kids stick under school desks that you probably have to use a blowtorch to remove. And he acts just like that! You know he made her give up a—"
"Babe!"
Your next step is wrong as you cross a curb. The dip in the sidewalk makes you wobble backwards, and you squeal in surprise, froyo flying out of your hand.
You brace yourself to sit hard on your butt. Instead, a strong arm wraps around your waist and yanks you back to solid ground. Dick's other hand darts out and neatly catches your froyo cup.
"Are you okay?" Dick doesn't wait for your answer, herding you to a nearby table in front of a cafe. He sets everything on the table and takes your ankle in hand, rolling it experimentally.
"Dickie, I'm fine," you say, petting his head. "Just a stumble."
He huffs, then looks at you, hair falling into eyes.
"Now will you walk forward?"
"Only if you'll hold my hand," you say, wiggling your fingers.
"Is that supposed to be a bargain? I'm basically getting two things I want," Dick says with a grin.
He pulls you to your feet and hands you your froyo, but not your bag. When you reach for it, he tuts.
"Ah-ah. How will you hold my hand, then? Plus, you need at least one hand free to balance."
"You'll always catch me, though," you say.
Dick kisses your temple. "'Course I will. Still not getting your bag back. Let me be a gentleman, hm?"
Hello, how are you? I hope I don't bother you, can I ask for jason+reader freaking out about a book?
Reading Session
Jason Todd x Reader

wc: 0.6 K summary: Jason finds his favourite book at your place and freaks out warnings: none, fluff, no y/n used a/n: this is such a cute idea, thanks for the request!!! i',#m so sorry about this being so short though, hope you'll still enjoy it anyway😭💕

Jason and you are both huge bookworms. It wasn‘t a surprise anymore when you recommended a book to him but he already read it. The same goes the other way, though. Both of your apartments are filled with random books in almost every corner, multiple stacks that are messily organised. It brings a more domestic feeling for Jason and he actually loves the way it looks like. It‘s strangly comforting, having some of the books from your collection resting in his room, a constant reminder that you are in his life.
Even now as he is laying peacefully in your bed, just reading through some random book to pass time, it feels just right. While you are taking a shower after having been on a long walk with him, Jason gives up on reading the amateur written book and places it away, turning to the big stacks of books by your bedside. He reads through a few titles on the backs of them, his eyes skimming through it quickly until he pauses.
What‘s his favourite book doing here? Did you steal it? No… is he just finding out about this? You‘ve been together for several months, been friends before that a few years, why does he only know now? This is insane.
When you walk out of the bathroom, Jason is already sitting up in your bed and keeps his eyes on the stack of books. Deciding not to adress it for now, you continue with your routine before slipping into bed with him.
»Have you read this book?«
He holds his favourite in his hand, looking at you while you apply a cream onto your face. You glance behind your shoulder, scanning the cover briefly.
»Yeah, some time ago. It‘s really good, you should also read it.«
You answer back with a small nod and go back to taking care of yourself, already assuming he read it before and doesn‘t think it‘s a masterpiece.
But no, he stands up, just to stand behind you and keeps his eyes on the book for now.
»You know, that‘s my favourite.«
He casually drops, expecting nothing much in return. Your action pauses and you ignore every other step you have left in your routine. With a quick turn in your chair, you face him. Jason pays attention to you again but keeps the book in his hands.
»No way.« You stand up now, cream still not fully rubbed in on your cheek. Jason tilts his head, confused because of your reaction.
»It‘s also my favourite! When were you going to tell me about this?« Suddenly, the atmosphere in the room spikes up, your excited energy bringing a small smile to his face. He places the book down at the table, shrugging his shoulders.
»Oh, I don‘t know. When were you going to tell me, huh? I saw this book just now, how long has this been here?«
The taller man crosses his arms as if he is actually scolding you about it, his tone playful.
You both end up talking and rambling to each other about specific parts and plot points made in the book, also talking about the the way it was written. You show him the notes and annotations you put into each page, seeing his eyes light up and perk up as he skims through it.
The evening draws out late into the night, just talking and basically fangirling over some silly words that happen to be your favourites.
Laying together in bed, having his head laying over your stomach as he listens intently to you and also shares some thoughts with you. Hand craddling and playing with his hair, you end up doying off together on each other, the book resting somewhere in the bed too.

Would you be willing to write a Jason Todd x reader inspired by the bulletproof vest scene from Criminal Minds? Maybe it's early in their relationship and they're fussing after hearing he's been shot. Maybe with an annoyed Damian breaking up their flirting?
(Here is the scene if you don't know what I'm talking about!! youtube.com/watch?v=C2bjYavXWec)
Haha this was such a fun prompt! Thanks for sending 🩷 I love prompts inspired by tv scenes
jason todd x gn!reader. minor injury, fluff, suggestive/implied nsfw, making out, implied timkon
****
Jason opens the door, looking extra comfy in his GU sweatpants and a Wonder Woman t-shirt. His curls stick up in fifteen different directions, making him look like an overgrown chick.
You'd coo if your heart hadn't been in your stomach all night.
"Hey, ba—"
You launch yourself at him, wrapping your arms around his neck. The force of your embrace makes Jason stumble back a step. You suddenly remember his injury and reel back.
"Baby, what's goin' on?" His eyes are wide. Jason holds onto you, inspecting you right back.
"I'm so sorry!" you say, hands fluttering over his body. "Oh God, did I reopen stitches? Fuck, fuck—"
"Sweetheart." Jason places both hands on your shoulders and guides you away from the door. He kicks it shut with his foot. You both settle on the couch. "What're you talking about? Are you okay?"
"Am I okay?" You sit up. Jason rests his head on the back of the couch, watching you. "God, Jason, you got shot! I heard you caught fire this morning so I got here as quickly as I could. Did I reopen stitches? Be honest because I swear to God, Jay, if you lie to me about that..."
"Honey. Oh my love. Y'know I'm crazy about ya?" Jason holds your face with both hands and squishes your cheeks. He's smiling. "I got shot in my bulletproof vest. No stitches required. Who told you I got shot?"
You take his hands and hold them to your chest. "Well, I was listening to the comms 'cause I can't sleep when you have overnight missions and—"
"You haven't slept all night?" Jason frowns. "Baby, you need to sleep."
You scoff. "None of that matters, Jay. What I'm hearing is that you still got shot!"
"'S not a big deal, honest. Just a few bruises. Leslie wrapped me up, see?"
Jason lifts his shirt. His ribs are wrapped in an ACE bandage. You feel around for a secret wound.
"No blood?" you ask, poking at the edges.
Jason laughs and catches your hand. He kisses your knuckles. "No, sweetness. No blood. 'S just a little sore." He lets his shirt fall. You're only a little disappointed by the loss of his bare skin.
"Why would Bruce send you out in a bulletproof vest? Of all the stupid—usually you wear your armor! That's actually bulletproof! Vests are bullet-resistant. That's like saying Gotham rats are toxin-proof. Just because they don't die from the Joker gas anymore doesn't mean they aren't higher than kites when it happens."
Jason kisses your cheek. It turns your insides ooey-gooey. He's always so warm, so solid.
"Mm. I'll call Merriam-Webster tomorrow and relate your beef with 'em. And to answer your question, I was undercover, so no armor. But I am fine. Okay?"
"I'll be the judge of that, mister."
You hike his shirt up to his neck and pat down his chest. Jason honest-to-God giggles, which only encourages you. You pinch the soft skin under his biceps, then kiss down his sternum. He squirms, sliding so he's lying on the couch.
"Tickles," Jason says, letting you love on him.
"Excuse me, sir, I'm trying to conduct a very serious medical examination," you say, biting your lip to keep from laughing. "I think I'll need a closer look at these."
You kiss Jason's right pectoral, and his face flushes pink like it always does because you know how sensitive he is there and how his sensitivity makes him shy. Your mouth grazes his nipple and a tiny grunt pushes out of his throat.
"'M just a piece of meat to you, huh?" He catches you with a hand on your hip.
You smile and nip his neck, careful of his bandage. Jason's breath hitches.
"Please, baby, show mercy. Want me to get on my knees an' beg? I will."
"Sir, that is highly unprofessional language for this procedure. I'm afraid I'll have to give you an oral exam to see what's causing that filthy mouth of yours."
"Yeah, I'll show you filthy," Jason murmurs, cupping the back of your head. "Let's see how filthy y'get when I—"
"Oh my God, stop."
"Todd!"
You freeze with Jason's mouth on your neck and your shirt rucked up. Tim and Damian are at the edge of the living room. Tim looks nauseous. Damian's mouth is shriveled like a prune.
You scramble off of Jason, mortified, and smooth down your shirt. Jason leisurely turns his head, still holding onto you. He sighs.
"What d'you brats want?"
"To erase the last sixty seconds from my brain," Tim says.
Jason grins, all teeth. "That can be arranged."
You roll your eyes. "We're sorry, guys. Did you need Jason?"
"Yes. Father wants you back at the Cave immediately for debrief," Damian says, glancing at Jason's exposed bandages with tangible disgust.
You tug down Jason's shirt. His mouth quirks briefly before he registers his brother's request.
"Oh, hell to the fucking no. I got back two hours ago. Tell him to fuck off."
"I think you tell him enough for all of us," Tim says. "It's just a debrief. Babs started timing him and he's been good about keeping them short."
"He can email me. I'm not going to the Cave for a damn debrief."
Tim squints at Jason, then you. "I see. You know, you're awfully energetic for someone who should be recovering. Leslie benched Dick the last time he overexerted himself."
Jason raises an eyebrow. "I wouldn't be speaking about exertion after what you and Connor did at the Kents' fourth of July picnic last year, Timbelina."
Tim somehow turns more pale. Damian whips his head around.
"Drake? What is he talking about?"
"Nothing. C'mon, Damian, let's go. Jason can debrief later."
He hauls a protesting Damian out the fire escape. Jason waves after them.
"Uh-huh, take care now, bye-bye! Close the window on your way out!"
The window slams shut. You look at Jason, eyes wide.
"What...?"
He shrugs. "Brotherly blackmail. All in good spirit."
"I see. You really don't need to go? I can wait."
"Nah. Bruce can wait. I have a very important injury that needs tending to."
You roll your eyes, smiling. "Uh-huh. Are you sure you're okay?"
Jason kisses you. "Positive," he says against your mouth. "This is nothing. But I appreciate you worrying about little ol' me."
"I'll always worry about you, Jay."
He ducks his head and nudges your neck like a cat. "I know, baby. 'S why I'm the luckiest guy in the whole wide world."

Summary: The Wayne family calls you in When they can't snap Tim out of it. (Tim Drake x reader)
Word Count: 2.5K
Notes: Tim is my fav as Robin ❤️ Yes, I did read the Hush arc. People are oddly divided if Jason really did try to kill Tim which is an argument for a later day, but it'd still mess with anyone regardless so shhhhh. Enjoy xx
━━━━━━━━━━━━━༻❁༺━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
It was hardly ever that you were contacted by the Wayne residence, so when you got a call one Friday evening, a cold ball began forming in your stomach. With a surprised stutter you responded that you were still at the Gotham University library, studying up for your finals. Before you even got a chance to ask what was going on, Alfred kindly let you know that he was going to be picking you up before the receiver went dead.
Unsure of what to do, you shifted from foot to foot outside of the library. The night was cold for Spring, the coattails of winter still wrapped around the city. As you fidget you try to think of any reason that they would be calling you. After all, you and Tim had only been dating for eight months or so. In those eight months you had visited the manor maybe twice, much less met his family. Tim had dragged you through the hallways as soon as you hit the foyer, hurrying you to his room so fast that you could only exchange a surprised glance with the members he passed. You could only think of the worst scenarios, minutes stretching for eternity as you trapped yourself inside your mind.
What if they hated you dating Tim? You weren't from an affluent family like they were, growing up in a poor area of Robinson Park. You got into Gotham U on a scholarship, which was how you both had met in the first place. What if they looked down upon that and were going to threaten you to break up with him? If they ever chose to, they certainly would have the power and sway to. Hell, they could chase you out of Gotham entirely and no one would be the wiser. You thought of all these ideas, just to distract yourself from the underlying thought that sat like an unwelcome visitor int he back of your mind.
The little thought that whispered over and over again, 'What if something has happened to Tim?'
The Wayne car rolling to a stop in front of you was enough to snap you out of your worrying, making the ball in your stomach only grow heavier. The visage of Pennyworth, the butler, appears from the driver’s side. He gives you a small, tight, smile and exits the car, opening the back as you descend the stairs.
"After you, dear."
You hesitantly poke your head in as he waves his hand politely to the open door, blood draining from your face. You had expected the car to be empty, but as you studied the shadows it was very clearly not the case. The sturdily built man in front of you had his arm propped up on the window, chin in his palm. His deep blue eyes glinted from the shadows he seemed to melt into, rough timbre floating your way. "Come in."
You anxiously shuffle into the seat, leaving a space between you and the enigmatic Bruce Wayne. There's a tense silence as Alfred gets into the driver’s side and starts the car, headed to the Manor once more. You shuffle in your seat, pulse thudding against your neck.
"It's nice to meet you." you say, clearing your throat awkwardly. The icy eyes of the billionaire flick to you, scanning you up and down.
"And same to you." he says smoothly, staring back out the window with a rich indifference. "I'm sure you know why we called you?"
"Actually, I don't sir." you say gently, fiddling with your fingers. They gave you nothing to work off of, how could they expect you to know what was happening?
"It's about Tim." he says, and your heart flips.
"Is he okay?" falls out before you can even temper your voice properly.
"He's…in a difficult space right now." Bruce hums back at you, worry creasing at the corner of his eyes. "He won't work with any of us, won't come out. We thought that maybe you could help. Actually, Dick recommended we call you."
Dick Grayson. The only brother you had met, albeit only briefly. He had been passing through for a charity event and had come to ask Tim a question, ducking his head inside the bedroom. Tim had gone to get snacks, leaving you to nervously explain who you were. When you mentioned that you were dating Tim, a wide smile had split the older man's face. He'd promptly introduced himself, stepping inside and shaking your hand. Tim had chased him out soon after he arrived back, the elder brother's laughing echoing down the halls long after Tim had shut and locked the door.
"Is it bad?" you whisper out, fists curling on your knees.
"He's alive and physically uninjured, if that's what you're asking. Now, what I'm about to tell you is confidential. You tell anyone, and I mean anyone," Bruce's eyes flash dangerously. "Then there will be severe consequences."
When you nod his shoulders drop slightly, and he uncoils. You had always been intimidated by the man and the sheer power he wielded, but you didn't take him for someone to be so fiercely protective. There was something in his eyes that flickered when he stared you down, a scarred over wound that re-opened at the thought of you harming his family.
"I promise." you say, rising to match Bruce's tone. "I just want to help Tim."
The answer settles the wary father next to you, relaxing back into his seat.
He fills you in, dread filling your stomach more and more. He explains how they've been a target of a terrorist attack, Tim getting caught in the crossfire. The story seems wild and something in the back of your mind gets the impression he isn't telling you everything, but you remind yourself that this is Gotham, and being a rich family paints a rather large target.
"Fear gas?" you whisper, eyebrows furrowed. "I thought Batman put the Scarecrow in Arkham."
Bruce bites his knuckles but nods. "Yeah, that is what I thought too. So, we're suspecting it's either a lackey of his, or the Bat isn't as thorough as he appears." he grunts, teeth relenting their assault so he can cross his arms. "Masked annoyance." he mutters, his nose crinkling.
"How can I help?" you ask, adrenaline rushing through your veins in a mild cocktail of panic.
"Talk to him. get him to come out. We've had a doctor look him over and he'll be fine, he got out of the gassed room in time. His mental is just a bit…fragile, right now. He won't accept comfort from us. Some of us can't even get close. So, we thought you might be able to try." Bruce studies you closely. "We want to deal with this before press come snooping. It'll only affect his social life if this gets out before he's had a chance to recover, so I must reiterate the importance of your silence. This is a family matter; we will deal with it as such."
you nod along, swallowing the lump in your throat. "Yes, sir."
"But do not take it to heart if my son doesn’t recognise you." he says firmly. "He isn't himself right now. This isn't a reflection on your or your relationship."
You want to ask about how much he knew about your relationship, but as you open your mouth you're cut off by the voice of Alfred. "We're here, sir."
The car rolls to a stop, and Alfred opens Bruce's door and then yours. The manor is imposing, but you don't get long to look at it before you're ushered away. You're walked to the door of Tim's bedroom; except this time your arm is being led by the sympathetic smile of Pennyworth. He leaves you in peace, and it's never felt more imposing knocking on your boyfriend's door than now.
"Tim?" you call softly, rapping your knuckles against the richly coloured wood. "Are you in there? Can I come in?"
There's no response, making worry knot up in your chest. "I'm coming in, okay?" you call out, hand hesitantly turning the brass knob and opening the door just enough so you can slip inside.
It's dark, only moonlight illuminating the scene before you. His bedsheets have been ripped from the mattress, pillows scattered around. Drawers were open haphazardly, contents spilled across the tiled floor. Your heart lurched spying the sheer curtains that fluttered in front of the open bay windows, worrying that he might have gone out there despite the drop. It calms slightly when you spy him, huddled under the desk. You approach as if regarding a cornered animal, concern twitching in your fingers. The desk was devoid of any objects, swiped clear by a frenzied arm. The drawers were open and empty, content spilled around him.
"Hey, Tim." you say, crouching to him under the desk. He looks a mess, face pressed tightly into his knees. He's curled into a ball, arms tucked under his torso, resting on the front of his thighs. "it's me." your murmur, reaching out gently. "it's just me."
He jumps as your fingers lightly brush against his arm, face snapping up. His eyes are puffy and red rimmed, cheeks stained with tears. His hair is tousled and messy, falling over the shaking of his blue irises. The sight pangs painfully in your heart, and when he no longer pulls away from your touch, your hand slowly circles his wrist. He leans into your touch, body trembling as you pull him towards you. When you manage to get him in a hug you can feel the rapid beating of his heart, the shaky and quickened breaths that he draws into his lungs.
"Please don't hurt me." he whispers, shattering your heart. You look at him wide eyed, gently tilting his face to meet yours.
"Why on earth would I do that?" you breathe out, confusion on your face. His eyes are watery and far away, lips trembling. "I'd never do that, Tim. you know that."
"Please don't leave." he chokes out. "Please. Please don't leave. I don't want to be alone. I don't want to be alone again, I'll work harder, I’ll be smarter, I'll do better." he reassures frantically, pupils shifting rapidly. "I'll do enough this time. I'll meet your expectations. Just don't go."
Your mouth drops and there's nothing that you can say for a few moments. "Oh, Tim…" you breathe out. "I'm not going anywhere, okay? absolutely nowhere." you murmur gently. "And you don't need to promise that. You do enough, hell, you do so much. You do so much more than meet expectations, Tim. You surpass them in every way."
he shakes his head at your comforting, hair flopping in front of his eyes.
"I saw them." he mumbles, although you aren’t sure if it is to himself or to you. "They were just here, I saw them.'
"Who?" you ask softly, stroking your thumbs over his cheeks.
"My parents." he mumbles back out. "I saw them. they were here. They said... They said things..."
You sigh.
Bruce had told you that the effect of the gas made people see things, vivid hallucinations conjured up to torture them. You just hadn't been able to comprehend how deep in someone's mind the fear gas was able to pull from. "And there was Jason." he chokes out. "I never meant to replace him, but he wouldn't listen, and then I felt it all over again." he stammers out, spare hand coming to trace along his throat softly. "But Jason turned into Damian, and then he pushed me and I was falling again. I'm not a real son, I'm not a real replacement I'm-"
"Stop." you command, unable to hold your own tears back at his words. You had no idea what he was saying. Jason and Damian hurting him? Tim complained lightly about his brothers at times, but he had equal amount of compliments to give them back (even if they were begrudging). It had to be the toxin messing with his mind, distorting the images he kept conjuring up.
"Tim, your brother's love you." you say. "Bruce loves you, Alfred loves you, I love you. So please," your whisper, hands holding his face. "Please, wake up, Timmie."
His pupils dilate rapidly as he peers up at you, and you can see him struggle to focus. "Please," you plead again softly. "Please come back. Trust me. You're safe."
Water spills over his lash line and his lips curl into a sob, but his body relaxes. He unfurls from the foetal position, absent rocking of his body coming to a slow halt.
"That's it," you breathe out. "Nice and easy, just take a deep breath."
When he relaxes enough for you to crawl under the desk with him, you do, his arms circling your waist as you pull his head forward to rest on your shoulder. He turns and buries his face in your neck, hot tears streaking down your skin as he sobs. "I couldn't dodge it in time…" he weakly says, hands shaking. "If I had dodged I wouldn't be seeing this. I'm supposed to be…I'm supposed to be faster than that…"
Your lips frown at the despair in his voice. From his tone it seems like he was slowly becoming more lucid, but you still had no idea what he was on about. With a few gentle encouragements you get his frantic murmuring to cease completely, fight draining out of him. You can feel the effects wearing off him as time passes, and you hate to imagine what the toxin must have done to him at full strength. You just run a comforting hand through his hair, scratching lightly at his scalp and occasionally shushing him. When you tilt your head to kiss the top of his head, your eyes narrow in on the piece of paper that had fluttered from his lap.
It had been obscured when he was curled up, pressed to his chest. now that he had begun to relax it had slipped out, landing face up. It was a photo of you, taken in black and white. He had gotten a new camera for his birthday and wanted to try it out, so he brought it to the library the next time you both met up to study together. You were looking up at the camera, smiling softly as the light from the window filtered in behind you. Your eyes follow the curve of your grin to the way your eyes crinkle joyfully as you gaze in his direction. The corners are rolled and creased from the toying of his fingers, and you softly reach out to pick it up.
His arms tighten around you as you move to retrieve it, making you rub his back comfortingly. "I'm not going anywhere." you say softly, pulling the picture back towards you. "I promise," you whisper, looking at yourself in the photo he had been cradling so reverently before you came. "I'm not going anywhere, ever."
And you intended to keep that promise before anything like this happened again.
