Re: book recs, what is some stuff you've previously read / really liked?

Gosh… such a long time ago since I read fantasy haha. I loved These Violent Delights, Caraval, Percy Jackson, Heartless, An Ember In the Ashes, etc.?

I’m hoping to find some more POC fantasy though, possibly myths from other cultures and stuff, since that’s the genre I kind of want to branch out in. But any fantasy is nice too! 💗

yes I need all the fantasy recs I can find haha, I think I’ve become a picky reader in this genre which I’d like to fix

got some interesting backstory/prologue info during my plotting, which is going slow, but i'm actually enjoying building up the mother character and the mystery :)) just wrote this little snippet here to throw ideas around:

The pair had to go to Korea frequently—sometimes for no reason. Away from it, her mother seemed pale. Unlike herself, shivering and clutching her chest. She’d scratch the area, right above her heart, so frequently, that Sohee was scared blood would drip onto the carpet.    Like a delirious madwoman, nothing got to her mother until she touched the weeds and clawed the dirt surrounding the empty grave, as if it gave her breath.

i was in the middle of writing when i realised how good this part was and remembered i had a last line tag to do :))

Upon hearing the door close, the other person turned around. It was close to a miracle that Theo showed no reaction. He wasn’t certain himself of how that was possible, how his breathing didn’t hitch, how his heart didn’t start slamming hard against his ribs or even how his eyes gave nothing away. Maybe what he went through helped, because it did make him less human. It was like he didn’t recognise the man, like his memory was still locked away in some far reach of his mind. But no, he recognised this man. This demon. Satan.
