Ah, also, for context about the "JAIL FOR CHUUYA FOR ONE THOUSAND YEARS" line, it's a reference to this tweet. For some reason I keep turning Dazai into meme cats

Let's play a game called "Goblin anon just got out of the shower and has brain rot"

Anyways you asked if Chuuya would ever feel comfortable in his ability again and I am happy to answer with a yes! It's not easy but it does happen.

The catalyst is when Atsushi gets kidnapped by the Port Mafia. He, Kyouka, Ryuunosuke and Gin (the latter two snuck on board to rescue Atsushi) got their asses handed to them by the Black Lizard. Fortunately Dazai knows which ship they're on and is on his way with help!

(Side note, this time the agency doesn't freak out because their metric for Dazai’s Bullshit is Chuuya. If he isn't worried, they don't need to worry. And yes, Chuuya does have a tracker in one of Dazai’s shoes'.)

So Chuuya picks up Dazai from where he just got finished getting his grubby little hands on info, meeting up with Kunikida at the dock (the only one qualified to drive a boat) and heading out. Along the way, Dazai drops the bombshell that the kids are on board too, and as if Chuuya's day wasn't bad enough already, he fills Chuuya in on Plan A: use Chuuya’s ability on the whole freighter ship to force the mafia to surrender and give the kids up.

Predictably, Chuuya freaks the fuck out, because he's going from not using his ability in years to using it on a metric fuck ton of metal, and he's also terrified of fucking up and killing all of them on accident. It takes the reassurance that Dazai will be there the whole time, and that Dazai trusts him (or else this wouldn't be Plan A) that gets Chuuya to agree.

And it goes as planned! Granted Chuuya may have slipped a little and may or may not have murdered a guy (I'm undecided) and may or may not have crippled the ship so it gets sunk by a slightly stronger gust of wind (he definitely did) but he has his family all back together now. Including Atsushi and Kyouka, who practically imprinted on Dazai and Chuuya like ducklings.

(Also Chuuya has a headache and a bloody nose afterwards because Arahabaki was like "You make me wake up from a four year nap and want me to affect the gravity of a freighter ship? Fuck you, let me out more")

In light of this new revelation, of what Chuuya’s ability is, that it's stupid powerful and dangerous, and that he still hates it, the kids all decide to help Chuuya love his ability, just like he helped Ryuunosuke, Atsushi and Kyouka with theirs.

(And if Kunikida pitches in once or twice with tips and private talks with Chuuya? He's just doing his duty as the ideal friend, possible ex criminal or not.)

...So I made a comic based on the end of this fic I wrote, but all you really need to know is that Dazai's been pining about Chuuya's hands since they defeated Randou, and he deals with this in a Very Normal Person way by holding Chuuya's hand whenever he's passed out post-Corruption use. This part takes place during that one soukoku scene in Dead Apple in the fog.
