Last Life, Zedaph and Zedeath

He joined Moonlight at Tango's request. Something something, get him out of his single player world and meeting people. And he did! He met Impulse and, for a little while, he had fun with with his friends instead of by himself.

And then Tango left. And Impulse went soon after. And Zed, eventually, moved back into his world. All by himself.

But, Hermitcraft. It was supposed to be different. Zed wouldn't have accepted the invitation otherwise, if he's quite honest. There's more people, they don't... Just leave as often. Maybe this time they won't leave him behind?

Then Tango and Impulse get involved in a war. On opposite sides. And Zed is the one left to deal with the fallout and burnt bridges. And they both promised it wouldn't happen again but sure enough, next season-

And then they vanish. Not for too long, and the server was already getting kinda empty, but suddenly they're gone and half the server seems to be gone and Zed is alone. And when they come back, several weeks later, they suddenly flinch at Zed's hugs, they eye each other with suspicion and they won't say a word about where they went.

This time, though, Zed hears the whispers. The weather is growing colder, and Zedaph's emotions terser, and he doesn't want to hold it back anymore. They want to leave him again. He can't let that happen! And something snaps.

Zedeath follows the group to their new world in secret. And, well, as he reaches out to Bdubs' mind... If they want to play around and kill each other, they can kill each other.

And when Bdubs attacks Grian, and Etho watches in horror, and Bdubs stares at the blood on his hands as he insists he doesn't know what came over him, and Grian insists that this isn't part of the game, hey. Zedeath thinks the game is just beginning.

5 Life Series Winners as the 5 Stages of Grief

Grian: Depression.

Scott: Denial

Pearl: Anger

Martyn: Acceptance

Scar: Bargaining

I can see Pearl and Martyn and maybe Scar and Grian being swapped, but hear me out first.

First, we have Grian as Depression. "I don't feel so good," anyone? He even killed himself at the end, the only winner to do so. It's his game, both in universe and out. He had the power to just leave, but he ended it the only way that felt appropriate to him.

Second, we have Scott as Denial. Literally denying the Boogyman curse was one of his defining moments in LL. In the end, he was sort of in a daze, unbelieving for a moment that he (and Binky) actually won. And in every season following, he is openly NOT trying to win again. There's an edge of reluctance in his voice every time he mentions having won.

Third, we have Pearl as Anger. It wasn't until after she was dead that she let go of the grudge she'd held against Scott all season. She repeatedly hurt herself to hurt him and killed with a kind of glee that can only come from enacting revenge.

Fourth, we have Martyn as Acceptance. His boogykill was last minute, but he did it in a very matter-of-fact way. The end fight was the ultimate acceptance of his fate. "You're all going down! This is a death match for a reason!" He knew what he was there to do, and he did it without remorse.

Fifth and last, we have Scar as Bargaining. He made his own persona one of making deals and trades. Nearly every session, he opened by pleading with the Secret Keeper, the Watchers, the Universe, whoever would listen, to let him have allies. Then, in the end, he asked a question. "How did the guy with no friends win?" If you follow the Eyes and Ears lore, He's still trapped in the game, pushing a button in exchange for freedom over and over again.
