“Look at me.” Yoongi knows you’re wandering. You look at him with eyes that feel like concrete. “Maybe working so much isn’t worth missing what goes on here. Maybe you need to step out of the office for a while, but I won’t let you quit.”

Your shoulders go tense with the way he studies you tonight and not even wine can soothe the anxiety.

“Not because we’d be broke and homeless without your job, but because you’d go crazy here, trust me. You might think you’re missing out, but I promise you do more for that kid than you think. My parents raised us in a two-bedroom apartment with no dryer, do you know how many dryers we can fit just on the first floor of this house?”

You feel a scoff in your chest because you don’t know what to say to that. You’d swallow it down with wine, but it’s starting to make your teeth feel furry and you look away from Yoongi long enough to sigh at something else.

“I mean it. I know money isn’t everything, maybe your mom is a prime example of that much. But someday, Roo is gonna look back on all of this and say, damn my parents really loved me either way. And you know what, especially my mom because she didn’t scold me when I got bath water all over the bathroom floor.”

“Ugh.” You scoff this time. It’s hard to swallow, even with the final gulp from your glass. “Just promise me something.”

“Sure.”

“Promise me you won’t ever fuck the nanny.”

It’s Yoongi’s turn to snort. But he quiets quickly like he doesn’t know if he should take you seriously or not. “She’s not rich like you are, she’s got nothing to offer me.”

“I am not your sugar mama.”

“That’s not what I tell the other dads at the park.” He swigs the rest of his drink down and then looks like he regrets it with a bitter scowl. “If you ever walk in on me fucking the nanny, I give you my full permission to sleep with my brother and sell our child to the circus.”

“Your brother doesn’t like women.”

“And our child doesn’t like clowns. I’m going to bed, please don’t drink that whole bottle.” He sidles out from between you and the bar stool, leaving you with a kiss on the cheek that smells a lot like communion. “I love you.”
