What I love in the French version of Our Dreams at Dusk (Eclat(s) d’âme in French) is that the characters also call the host « personne » which either means a person/somebody (you could argue that somebody would more correctly translate to « quelqu’un », but the meaning is similar) or nobody. And each time I’m reading the manga, I’m never really sure if the meaning was intended as « this a person, they exist but they are as furtive as a stray cat. You might perceive or even touch them but they will stay a mystery » or « this is nobody, we’re not sure if they really exist and they don’t care about existing to hard either. They are like a ghost wandering eerily at the edge of you vision and when you think you may be finally looking at them, you really are looking through them ».

Though it kinda is the thing about the host, being somebody and nobody at the same time. And I love how the ambiguity of the word « personne » sustains this idea and this mystery. Est-ce une personne ou n’est-ce personne ? :)

I’m wondering if the double meaning is also present in a lot of other languages.

I might be wrong about the host though, it’s been a while since I read the manga so my memories are a bit fuzzy haha.

I was looking through the car window to admire the nightscape when I noticed the fields and the trees were progressively getting covered by a thin coat of snow. It was glistening under the road lights.

I thought it was strange since the temperature outside was too high for the snow not to melt. However I wasn’t going to complain since there isn’t a day going by when I do not dream of being surrounded by snow.

I turned around to share my excitement with my family when I discovered a friend of mine was sitting on one of the backseats. I did not know she was in the car with us. I smiled at her and told her there was snow outside. She smiled back.

Oh I loved it there. I wish it lasted longer.
