You hope nobody will come to know when you light a lantern in your window one night, the agreed upon signal that the cost is clear. That you lay together and whisper to each other, Yeonjun holding both of your hands in his warm one as he speaks of a shared future that will never be. After chatting for hours, you fall asleep in his arms, and it's a feeling greater than anything you’ve ever known, the best sleep you've had in years.

When you wake in the morning he is gone, slipped out before the palace began to stir, and feel your heart twinge with the loss of his presence. You close your mind to the fact that one day, his absence will be a permanent fixture in your life, for your parents will never allow a man with his last name to take your heart. They don't know he already has.

apparently not, because reader would rather risk exposing herself and dying a harrowing death than to lose him. not again. not like this. not where she can’t follow.

when she sees the carnage that beomgyu lays loose on the kingdom, however, the killings of magic-users and innocents alike, she knows that she needs to confront him. she needs to stop this.

the confrontation after so many years.. so many emotions, love and spite mingling in beomgyu’s heart to the point where he can’t even tell the difference, his hand trembling like a leaf as it grips the hilt of his sword while his icy glare bores into you from where you stand before him. does he want to throw you to the bed and claim you or does he want to drive his blade through your heart? neither of you know for sure.

this could end either way.. fucking out all the anger and pain and buried love against his sheets with your daggers to each other’s throats; or one of you laid bleeding out into the hard, cold floor.

but which will it be? is there really a difference?
