Kiseki: The careful balance of sweet and spicy  

It’s important when there is a main and side couple romance that they are different enough so there’s something for everyone in the show. Perhaps you want something sweeter or maybe you want a dynamic that is spicier or maybe you like both! The Zongyi/Zherui vs Chen Yi/Ai Di pairings give a full and balanced meal of romance. 

There are the ways they look out for each other: 

Taking on an angry mom with firm diplomacy. Zongyi is accused of hurting the jealous girl? Not on Zherui's watch!  

Ai Di: Attempted murder (feral kitten on rampage)

Zherui: I’ll see your attempted murder and raise you one full on murder! 

(It really isn't)

The characters are also subtly different in how they show their displeasure. 

Zongyi : Quietly sulks and glares from the next room

Ai Di: Baby corn chili torture!! Ai Di might quietly nurse his unrequited love, but when he's pissed, the gloves come off and the hot pot goes on!

CY: I don't think I'm into this.

Then there are the way they show their love through food: 

The sweetness of love. Zongyi learns to bake strawberry cakes for Zherui.  

Chen Yi: Bring on the spice for a love that hurts. Let’s share this baby corn in the most homoerotic way possible. 

Ai Di: Do you really want my spicy baby corn? 

Chen Yi: Yeah, I am very into this now. 

Touch. Sometimes it’s the little ways the characters touch each other that reveal their feelings, the gentle brush of fingers… 

The aggressive yoinks of jealousy. The only person who can manhandle Ai Di is Chen Yi.

Not to be outdone, Zherui deploys the surprise morning hand job.

Acts of Sacrifice: 

Zongyi takes the fall for Zherui and heads off to prison for him.

Zongyi, with an assist from Zherui’s cousin(?), shows up to make sweet, sweet love to him. 

Chen Yi: I'm gonna haul that boy over my shoulder and drag him home where he belongs.

However they went about it, our boys both got their man!
