“Hey, brat.”
Your twin brother Hoseok strolls into your room with a grin on his face and a plate of pizza in his hand. He sits down on your bed while you watch him with caution before he thrusts the plate into your hands.
“What’d you do to it…”
“Can’t a great brother like me not give his favorite sister food?” He asks clutching his heart, feigning his hurt.
“Okay, one,” You begin placing the plate down in front of you, “I’m your only sister, but I like the sound of your favorite, and two,” you hold up two fingers, “you’re only nice to me when you want something or you want me to do something for you…” You take a bite of pizza and crack your fingers, “So, what is it?”
Hoseok sighs and lays down in your bed staring up at the ceiling, “I got a slot at a festival to rap with Yoongi.” You shrieked jumping on your bed, only for your brother to sit up and shush you to keep quiet.
“What!” You whisper-yelled, “That’s amazing! When is it? Where is it?”
“Can you keep it down?” He hissed shushing you, bringing his hands up to signal you keep your voice down, “It’s… I-well-uh,” He scratches the back of his head, “It’s in America.”
“AMER—” Hobi’s hands clasp around your mouth as he shushes you again.
“For the love of God, Y/n—can you please shut the fuck up?” He winces when you lick his hand, jerking it away quickly.
“Hobi, I love you—but you just got kicked out of Cypress because you’ve be skipping… You just into Ridgecrest, which starts in a week! How are you going to do your rap gig in America?”
“Well… I was hoping that you could like… Cover for me? Like pretend to be mom or some shit and say that someone died or that we have a family emergency?”
“How am I going to pull that off?” You scoffed, shoveling more pizza into your mouth.
“I don’t know! You’re the genius out of the two of us, plus... By the way, I heard that Cypress got rid of their volleyball team… That true?” He asks more calmly, as he can already tell what the answer is the minute he sees your face drop.
“Look,” You conclude, “Say I do help you, how are you going to pull this off without them knowing?”
"You gonna snitch?”
“What the fuck? Are you serious—”
“Then we’ll be good. Dad thinks I’m here with mom, mom would think I’m with dad, and that’s the beauty, of divorced parents. So, it works out!” Hobi moonwalks to your bedroom window opening it.
“Wait where are you—”
“Yoongi is waiting for me at the end of the block, suitcase is packed and all I needed was to make sure that you were on board!” He winked, before swinging his leg out of the window, blowing you a kiss and a gentle smile, he jumped out, followed by a loud smack hitting the pavement and a groan shortly after.
“Hobi?” You whispered still in your bed angling your head to try and see out the window.
“Y/n?” Your mom bursts into your bedroom looking confused, “Did I just hear Hoseok?”
“Uh—no, not—no, not here, he’s at Dad’s? I was just on the phone with him? Just hung up though.” You chuckled nervously placing your phone back down, “What’s up?”
Your mother sighs, “I was just coming here to tell you, I need you to be working the carnival in a few weeks, I’ve volunteered you to work at one of the booths and your brother will be running the dunk tanks. Can you make sure to tell him that soon?”
“Do I have to?” You groaned, “I should be practicing—”
Your mother tsked, “Jung Y/n, I swear you and your brother are the exact same, trying to get out of volunteer work to do whatever it is that you guys do in your spare time… Twins.” She sighs once more, shaking her head, and shutting the door.
Once you hear the retreating footsteps of your mom, you quickly unlocked your phone to sift through your pictures. You come to a recent picture of you and your brother, one from the past summer when you visited your dad after school had ended. You hadn’t noticed it too much, maybe because you see each other every day, but you do have similar features. You even remember when you two were younger how everyone would confuse the two of you when you’d wear similar outfits, it especially didn’t help that you thought it would be a bright idea to chop your hair off like Mulan did in that one scene… You and Hoseok were often mistaken as identical twins at that point.
You hummed to yourself… Just maybe there was a way that you could prove your point that a girl can most certainly play on the boys volleyball team…
You dialed the number of a dear friend, contemplating if this was what you really wanted to do, before you could back out, her airy voice filled your ears.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Kione… Say, you’re still doing hair right?”
══════ ∘◦❀◦∘ ══════
“You’re joking right?”
You, Somi, and Euna were gathered around the beautiful girl who’s hair was in pigtails, her purple bangs curving around her face as she popped her gum. Her whole sleeve was on display, along with her heavily decorated ears that had numerous amounts of earrings dangling, while her nose piercing gleamed under the salon lights.
“I know it sounds crazy, but please Kione? I need to prove a point; I have to win against Cypress—think of it as… Revenge on my ex-boyfriend for not believing in me.”
Kione thrusts her head back with a sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose, “Ugh—” She groans, “I’m such a sucker for revenge against shitty exes.”
“Please, Kione?”
“C’mon, girl, you’re the best at what you do, with your help no one would be able to guess that Jung Hoseok is actually his twin sister!” Somi says with a grin.
“She’s gotta fix her mannerism.” Kione whispers, “But… Maybe my brother Soobin can help with that…” You watched with hopeful eyes as Kione works out the whole plan in her head. Humming to herself, she nods.
“Alright, fine. I’ll help you out.” The three of you squealed embracing her into a hug, that she half accepted with a disgusted face.
“We start tomorrow, drop by so I can fix you a wig, some sideburns, and how to hide… that.” She gestures towards your chest. Blushing hard and covering yourself up, you nodded.
“Great!”
══════ ∘◦❀◦∘ ══════
“Noona, you can’t fucking drink a soda with your pinky up!” Soobin exhales, rubbing his temples.
“Hey, don’t forget who’s older!” You hissed at the younger, “And you can blame my mom for that, those damn etiquette classes are embedded in my brain.”
“You’re not even older by much,” Soobin roles his eyes, “try again.” Soobin sighs, tossing you another can of soda.
You huffed, catching it with ease and popping it open. Wrapping the entirety of your hand around the drink, lifting your eyes to sarcastically thrust your hand out, ensuring that Soobin saw that you didn’t have your pinky up. Tilting your head back, you downed the carbonated drink, squeezing your eyes shut at the familiar burn.
“Alright, now burp. And don’t say excuse me this time.”
Letting out the loudest belch that you had ever done in your life, your eyes tearing up at the burning sensation in your nose.
“Good, that’s good!” Soobin states with a smile, “Better than you letting out those tiny excuse of—”
“Okay, you know what—”
“Alright, you two.” Kione walks in with scissors in her hands, “That’s enough for today, yeah? Thanks, Soobin.”
“You owe me a shit ton of boba for this Ki.” Soobin jokes with a smile, “Kidding…. Unless…”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” Kione waves her hand, “Get lost, squirt.”
Soobin chuckles as he gets up and smiles at you, “Fighting! Catch ya later, Y/n-noona!”
You watched as Soobin leaves his sisters salon, and you sit down on the chair that Kione told you to sit at. Cracking your neck, Kione waltzes back in with a bright yellow wig that looked scarily similar to Hobi’s.
“You sure you wanna do this?” Kione questions as she situates your hair inside a hairnet and places the wig on top of your head.
Your heart was racing, you could hear the pounding in your ears, as she begins to style the front of your hair in a similar fashion to Hobi’s bangs; your mind was all over the place, part of you was certain that you would be able to pull it off, the other half of you was nervous—knowing that if you were caught, that this would reflect badly on your school record… or you think something like this would reflect badly, however you were hoping it wouldn’t, and you were hoping that you wouldn’t get caught too. You knew that the minute Kione begins to cut the wig that there was no turning back. You weren’t about to waste your friend’s effort and service just for you to back out.
So, you sat up straight, confidence dripping off of your physique, your gaze determined staring at Kione through the mirror.
“Yeah,” You state without tripping over your words, “let’s do it.”
══════ ∘◦❀◦∘ ══════
Few days later…
Wig? Check.
Cloth to wrap your boobs. Check.
Sideburns. Check
Tampons. Double check.
You zipped up your bag, remembering to take your volleyball bag with you before shutting your door and scurrying down the stairs in hopes that your mother wouldn’t be sitting in front of the door.
You were about to turn the knob to exit the house when you heard a loud cough erupt your escape.
“And where do you suppose you’re off to?”
Turning around slowly, you greet the hard stares of your mother’s eyes, her arms crossed and her foot tapping.
Your mother wasn’t a very tall woman but was she ever the scariest in this stance. You towered over her 5’2 frame with your average height of 5’6—definitely shorter than most aces, but that’s what made you extremely talented, so people called it, you sure knew how to jump. Her black bob framed her slim face, her outfit consisted of a tight pencil skirt and a short sleeved button-down top, her typical attire.
“I-uhm-I,” You stuttered out, “I’m headed to dad’s for the next couple weeks, remember? He said he wants Hoseok and I to… Help fix the basement!” You were lying through your teeth, and you couldn’t tell if your mother was buying it or not. Her face remained unchanged and stoic, and you hated that you were never really able to read her because of it.
“I don’t think so.” She says with ease, “The deal between your father and I was that if he keeps one kid for the week, I keep the other. So, go back upstairs and unpack.”
You sighed loudly, panicking slightly, how were you going to get out of this one?
“B-but Kione!” Your eyes widened, “uh, Kione lives near Ridgecrest, you know the school Hobi enrolled in? That just so happens to be by dad’s!” You state boldly, hoping that your mother was catching your drift.
“And?” She inquires raising an eyebrow.
“Y-you said that you wished I was more like a girl! I was thinking, since Kione will be working over there in the local salon, I could get some pointers in… Hairstyling and such…” You sounded unsure, but you could see the way your mother unravels her arms and her frown slowly disappears, a smile replacing it.
“Oh!” She cheers with a relieved face, “That sounds amazing! I have always liked that Kione, her etiquette is so feminine and she’s so soft spoken—her hair colour choices worry me some, and those tattoos of hers… Her piercings as well… But she’s so feminine!”
Sighing in relief you nodded your head, “Yeah, haha… Anyways, if you don’t mind… Imma just—”
“You’re going to take that ball while learning the arts of cosmetics?” You could hear the disgust in your mother’s voice as you shift on the balls of your feet again.
“Y-yeah,” You say before throwing open the door, “It comforts me, you know that…” Shrugging you run out the door before your mother could stall you more, “See ya, mom!” You sped out of your home, slamming the door shut behind you, while you made your way towards Kione and Soobin, who were waiting patiently for you in their car.
“You good, Noona?” Soobin asks when you plopped down into the backseat of his sister’s car.
“Yeah,” You gasp for air, “Mom just… I knew the longer I stayed she’d see right through my lies.” Kione giggles in the passenger seat and Soobin chuckles to himself before putting the car in drive.
“How did you get out of it?”
“I said I was going to practice being more feminine with Kione by indulging in cosmetics.”
The siblings glance at each other before laughing abruptly to themselves, Soobin turning onto the freeway towards Ridgecrest.
“And does your mother know that… I am so feminine that I love girls?” Kione snorted and Soobin smirks.
“Kinda left that part out,” You respond guiltily, “but in my defense, if she found that out, she definitely wouldn’t have let me go. She might think you’d try something.” You laughed, Kione shrugs.
“Maybe I would if I didn’t, you know, have a girlfriend.”
The three of you giggled for the next 5 hours of the long drive to the school.
══════ ∘◦❀◦∘ ══════
“Well,” Soobin sighs, “Here we are!”
You pulled up to Ridgecrest—the colours of maroon and white decorated the flags that were on flagpoles surrounding the campus. The school looked much like what you had imagined Hogwarts to look like, a large, gated community, a few towers in the distance that appeared to be where the class could be—but you could be wrong. The buildings look newly reconstructed, with bits and pieces of red decorating their exterior to compliment the school’s colours. All in all, this school made Cypress—and their boring blues and greys—look livelier and fun, and not like the prison that your previous school had seemed to portray.
“You going to be okay?” Kione questions, turning around in the passenger seat, “I’ll just be working across campus, okay? So, feel free to come find me if you hadn’t made any friends yet!”
“Yeah,” Soobin agrees, “I’ll be working in the salon too with Ki,” giving you a smile, “Don’t be a stranger!”
You smiled grabbing your gear and hopping out of the car.
“Thanks guys! Seriously!” You shut the door, taking a deep breath, and walked towards the campus dormitories. You took the time to admire the large fountain you walked by on the way to your room. Everyone seemed nice—the boys fist bumped you and all the girls smiled, a different type of environment that you were used too. At Cypress, everywhere you turned majority of the people there would keep to themselves or ignored you completely. It was a nice change of scenery.
As you journeyed towards the men’s dorms, you were greeted with the booming sounds of yelling and heavy footsteps running around. With wide eyes you stopped in your step to witness the entirety of your hall out of their rooms, running around, throwing an assortment of balls, simply playing around in the halls.
Absolute madness.
Chaos.
You panicked, fumbling with your keys to find you dorm: 143. You zoomed past all the boys that seemed to have been running directly at you, only for them to duck into a room. You stumbled over skateboards, balls, and… a shoe? You quickly found the dorm room and pushed your keys in, to greet your ears with silence. Breathing heavily, you leaned against your door, sighing in relief.
“Uhm…”
Your eyes shot open to see 3 men; one was seated on the windowsill, ears decorated with silver rings, two on one ear, and one on the other, his hair was blonde framing a very handsome face, he had some muscle but not an overbearing amount—but you could definitely tell that he was physically active. The next one was sitting on the bed, his fluffy black hair covering his eyes, his ears also decorated with earrings, except he had a stacked design on one of his lobes, almost the same amount of muscles as the last man, but you could tell he must’ve been taller just the way he stretched out along the bed. The last one was standing right in front of you, his hair was styled short, black, and slight bangs in his eyes, he was easily the biggest—muscle wise, since it seemed that Mr. Fluffy hair beat the other two in height—man you had ever seen. His doe eyes were furrowed, staring down at you. The most frustrating thing is the fact that all three of these boys were absolutely stunning.
Cypress didn’t have this many hot men…
“Uh-uhm, hey!” You coughed out, ensuring that your voice was deep—man would Soobin have kicked your ass, “I-I’m Jung Hoseok, what’s up?”
Doe eyes nodded, “Jeon Jeongguk,” He shook your hand, “Kim Taehyung is the guy on my bed and Park Jimin is on the window.”
“Cool!” You squeaked, coughing again to fix your voice, “Are-are you guys athletes… or…”
“Mhm,” Jeongguk hummed, turning around, and grabbing a water from the mini fridge, “We play volleyball.”
Your eyes widened, “Me too! What positions?”
“Jimin’s our setter, Taehyung plays middle block, and I play left side.” Jeongguk states, “You play?” You tossed your bags to the side of the room where your bed was and nodded.
“I was the Ace from my old school.”
“You?” Jimin chuckles, “You played Ace?” Jeongguk and Jimin were both doubling over in laughter as Taehyung sneered at his friends.
“Don’t be assholes!” Taehyung barked as the two quipped up, still stifling in their laughs.
“You can’t possibly be an Ace.” Jimin states giving you a once over, which made you feel self conscious, “You can’t be taller than me.” Jimin makes his way over towards you, before proving his point with a smug grin staring down at you. Soon after, Taehyung and Jeongguk joined him in crowding around you; you suddenly felt small. Even though you were 5’6, just slightly above average, these boys were tall, at least taller than you. Jimin had at least 2 inches on you, not much—but still enough for him to be a cocky prick about it, however; Taehyung and Jeongguk were practically skyscrapers. Jeongguk had to be 5’10, at least, and Taehyung could very well be closer to 6’0 or 6’1, you couldn’t tell, but they were much taller. It was Taehyung that spoke first, making you leave your thoughts.
“Where did you say you played?” He questions, the 3 pairs of eyes burning a hole into your skull as they awaited your response.
“Cypress,” You uttered out, “Uhm- I transferred from Cypress.”
Jeongguk tsks while Jimin sneers at the mention of the rival school, Taehyung’s forehead creases, but just nods.
“Ah, so I’m assuming that you know Kim Seokjin and his delinquent of a friend Kim Namjoon?” Jimin hisses, rolling his eyes. You nodded.
“Uh-yeah, I d-do. My sister actually dated the prick.” You huffed out, recalling your hatred for your ex-boyfriend, and remembering why exactly you were here in the first place.
“Namjoon or Seokjin?”
“Jin-“ Your eyes widened, “I m-mean Seokjin.”
“Did he treat her right?” Taehyung asked, “You seem like a protective brother is all, and you didn’t sound too fond of him.”
“Tae you’re being nosy.” Jimin shoves the taller man.
“It was just a question!”
“For the most part, I guess.” You say, answering the question. You shrugged, “It didn’t end too pretty though, pretty sure my sister is plotting some type of revenge.” It felt weird talking about yourself, but how else were you going to sell this act?
“Wah!” Jimin says with disappearing eyes, patting Jeongguk’s back, “Sounds like your typa woman, Jeon!” You noticed that Jeongguk shoves his friend off, pink dusting across his cheeks.
“Shut up, hyung.” Jeongguk whispers, “That’s his sister.”
You shrugged, “Hey man, do what you want. She’s her own person, if she’s your type, she’s your type.” You didn’t know what possessed you to say such a thing, but when the words left your mouth, you noticed that the two boys were smirking, and a certain doe eyed man stared at you with a tight-lipped smile, curiosity swirling in his eyes.
