This has been a terrible week in my manga releases.
First in Vinland Saga, Thorfinn agreed to leaving Vinland, his dream he has had since he was young.
Then in Bungou Stray Dogs, Aya threw herself off a building and we still don’t know if Dazai is alive.
Next, in the Noragami raws, it seems Hiyori DIED and became a Shinki.
And to top it all of, the Fairy Tail chapter was actual shit.
So what are we all thinking about the newest Camp Camp episode? I have pros and cons:
Cons:
Obviously the voices are weird, Max sounds like he is trying to hard and Gwen sounded… not like Gwen.
The line “because somebody fucking has too” didn’t work as well because of the random whistles. Maybe there’s an uncensored version out there, it isn’t a kids series so don’t make it one.
Pros:
I loved the Max and David hike, as they were realizing that they had to embrace the good and bad, and just wish for more good.
Nostalgia from old episodes was great.
Gwen got a new (possibly worthwhile) job! But I really really hope it doesn’t work out. She’s my favorite character. Like, good for her, but what about me?
The scene with the photos Max took that mirrored the intro had me sobbing. It was so sweet and a great way to show how his perspective changed on the camp.
Anyways, pure nostalgia bait episode but it was good enough that I loved it. A lot of people on YouTube didn’t seem to like it, so I decided to put my thoughts here.
One of my favorite ship dynamics- in terms of thinking about it and I find them so fascinating is the ones that work, but thanks to their past you can’t ship them that much. Like, you can ship them but with questionable ethics and with using the word ‘but’ a lot.
Some examples:
Mika and Seiji from Durarara. They’re cute enough but I mean… he did almost murder her after she stalked him. But they do love each other in their own way.
Erza and Jellal from Fairy Tail. They’re adorable and I can’t wait for them to officially be together. But he did basically keep her friends as slaves while she walked free with that knowledge and guilt. I know he was being manipulated but it’s what Erza thought for like 7 years
The Reaper and Aguri from Assassination Classroom. I know they didn’t know together long but they were so cute. But the Reaper was the top assassin in the world who killed over 1,000 people so…
And the one that got me thinking about all this: Yukine and Nora from Noragami. She did a lot of bad things and as of Chapter 80 (where I am) she is most likely being manipulated or is manipulating Yukine. But he could teach her how to love and to be a human…
I try to find a deeper meaning and metaphor in everything…

To me, in the Carry On trilogy, Magic represents the true self.
People seem to care a lot about what Simon identifies as. He never outright says he is gay or straight or bisexual. This always struck me as weird, because as soon as I realized I liked women and men, I immediately labeled myself as bisexual. It felt right and comforting to me.
But Simon has been labeled since he was 11. By other, outside sources that he couldn’t control, about things he couldn’t control. ‘The Chosen One’. ‘The Mages Heir’. ‘The Greatest Mage’.
After the Mage dies, and Simon loses his magic, these labels that he had identified with for most of his life were stripped away, and now he is just a boy.
I think the reason Simon doesn’t outright label himself as gay or bi or anything else is because he subconsciously hates labels. They remind him of what he lost, and what he used to be and can never be again. So, he settles for ‘I like Baz, but women are cool too’ mentality.
