“And then I was like ‘if’n you don’t get out me bloody face, I’ll break them hands.’ so she handed over the last of the roses and I went to put ‘em on me mum’s grave.”

They had something in common, most of their family was dead, and they had found solace in a single person. For Douglas it had been his brother, for Stefan, it had been…complicated. He didn’t have a support system like this, not one that was strong and enduring, though he felt like he could become a part of Douglas’s, and that would be beneficial for the both of them.

“O’Malley sounds like a life-saver,” from what he had heard of the wolf’s history, they may not have made it on the streets for much longer before the gym owner had taken them in. He appreciated the fact that he may be less than welcome at the gym, so he stopped at the corner, a full building away from the gym just to be safe. “I fear they would not like me to come in, so I can say goodbye here,” he gave the wolf’s hand a squeeze before pulling him into another kiss. They would see each other again, and soon. Stefan would make sure of it.
Douglas knew he was right, it would have been silly to bring him closer to the gym at this point. But it didn’t mean he wanted to let go, or walk away. There was a great deal of relief in being close to Stefan again. He returned the kiss and moved closer to him, unsure what to do with his hands, he placed his hands on the vampire’s waist.

Pulling away was something he more or less had to convince himself to do. He knew it was only getting later, that they would start to worry, and he didn’t want anyone to ruin his mood. He pressed one more kiss to Stefan’s lips before pulling himself back a couple of steps. “When should I text you?” he asked, stepping backwards still, his smile seeming to be permanently widened.

“Jus’ like you decided children was too much responsibility for ya.” Shoving the cash into the pocket of his trousers, Daz picked up his duffle bag and once more slung it over his shoulder. “He’ll understand…an’ he won’t think me no less a man for doin’ what I need ta help us survive by ourselves. – I’ll think about it, Charlie. Now leave, yeah?”

“Don’t be a git, Darren. Think about our family, ya? All we’ve sacrificed to be here.” He turned to leave none the less. “We could be somethin’ great, the three of us.” And with that, he was gone. Duggy was of course safely in a coffee shop, talking with a handsome vampire he’d only just met, and he would keep talking until far later than he was ever out.
