The cast of Kekkai Sensen celebrate their latest OVA release with a fancy meal in this spread by character designer Koji Sugiura (杉浦幸次) and key animator Haruna Hashimoto, illustrated exclusively for Animage Magazine (Amazon US).

Apparently there’s a sect of Japanese fans believing that while Klaus and Steven are tighter than tight-knit friends, like any best friends or siblings, they’ve had arguments.  

The only problem is, on the very rare occasions they have arguments, it tends to completely destroy the office and land both of them in the hospital.  Because I can’t imagine anyone who could actually find the right buttons to push on Klaus than Steven.  Poor Leo and Zapp walk in one morning and find the office in ruins, their boss and his right hand apparently trying to murder each other, and Gilbert being so casual about the situation that Zapp thinks the bandages he’s wearing is cutting off blood to his head.  After all, even if every blow is lethal, Gilbert simply explains that if they were honestly trying to kill one another, one of them would’ve been dead long before the two of them arrived.  (Which is true.)

Later in the day they’re in the ICU and Steven apologizes for being an asshole, and Klaus apologizes for losing his temper, and all is right with the world again. 

But like I said, that’s how the Japanese fans think of it.  I’ll probably wind up writing a darkly humorous drabble about it.

You know it's not like I have a problem if one of the main "good guy" characters is an asshole. But it's how they are written that matters.

Afterall, Zapp from Kekkai Sensen is a peice of shit but I consider him in my top 5 fave in the series because he's actually entertaining and gets treated like a butt monkey at times and I'm not being forced to think he's better than he actually is. He hasn't really changed much (although I haven't read the manga in a while) and the series isn't trying to make me think he did.

And more importantly, Leo, even though he's nowhere near as strong as Zapp can still fight back or talk back against him.
