Admin J’s notes: I’m not a big fan of HS AUs but this one is very good. In some kinky way I enjoyed to read about Cas teaching Dean and I liked it how the author had actually explained all those grammar things. Without that the fic wouldn’t have been as good as it was now. Good job there! This fic is not sad, but it’s cute. And GOD I missed the part “long” of the question… Damn it.

Summary: “Least I haven’t totally forgotten everythin’ yet,” Dean muttered, and Cas stuck his tongue out again. “Hey now, keep that tongue in your mouth unless you intend t'use it.”

“Oh, I intend to use it,” Cas said matter-of-factly, returning his attention to his notebook, but he caught the slight intake of breath, and a smile quirked at his mouth.

“Thought this was supposed to be tutoring, not torturing,” Dean grumbled.

“Don’t be dramatic,” Cas chided, but he leaned over and pulled Dean into a brief kiss, chaste but tender, and somewhere in the back of his mind he marveled at how easy it felt to do that.

Dean let out a displeased whine when he pulled away, and Cas waved his notebook pointedly.

“The sooner we get done with this, the sooner we’ll –”

“Be fucking?” Dean supplied hopefully, and Cas groaned.

“I thought you were going to take me to dinner,” Cas reminded him. “You know, make an honest man out of me.”

Admin A’s notes: It hasn’t been too long since this was last updated! There is still hope ppl! So far this has been pretty okay-ish, but like I’ve said a million times before, I’m not really the right person to fairly judge HS fics!

Summary: Cas is going to break. He’s going to snap and crash and burn, and Dean is going to watch. He’s going to watch this beautiful boy with a heart of gold crumble to a heap of burning ash and rotting matter. He is going to cry and weep for a boy he thought he knew, but could never truly help, and that is going to kill him inside.

The shittiest thing you can ever do to yourself is fall in love with someone who is already broken beyond repair. No matter how hard you hope your love will save them, it won’t, and Dean knows that. Nuzzling his nose into Cas’ dark locks of hair, he breathes in and tells himself that he doesn’t care; that it’s worth it; that Cas is different. He’s wrong, and he knows that, too.

That’s more like the Cas I like and the Cas from the show. And I once again have to tell you that I cried while reading the last sentence of the summary. So touching. 

Summary: Castiel Novak is a product of the system, having gone through too many foster homes since the age of seven. At fourteen, he lands himself in Sugar Lane Mobile Home Community, under the care Missouri Moseley. There, he meets one Dean Winchester. A story about teenage hooligans, growing up, and finding home.

Admin J’s notes: Okay. okay, this one isn’t long, either, but it’s sad, I swear! The name of the fic made me first think this would be one of those too overly angst HS fics in which I feel myself too old to even read the fic. Luckily I didn’t skip it ‘cause of that since the fic was really, really good. I love the Dean of the fic, how he’s not the hero who immediately runs to help poor Cas, because the way he acts in the fic makes him feel like a real teenager for me. The story and the characters are well-written and the author knows what she’s (?) doing. And Cas’ daddy is amazing!

Summary: High school AU - Castiel knows life isn’t fair. If it was, then he wouldn’t be bullied for things that others get away with constantly. It isn’t fair of him to hate Dean either, but life isn’t fair, and neither is Castiel.

Summary: Castiel Novak is different, and this is something he’s know all of his life. It’s not just the fact that he’s a highly intelligent awkward loner who finds it practically impossible to communicate like a normal human being. What sets him apart the most is the fact that he has a pair of wings sprouting from his back. However, due to the stigma of society and his wish to remain primarily unnoticed in high school, Castiel is forced to hide his wings from prying eyes.

Things take an odd turn when Dean Winchester appears to begin to take an interest him, especially since it’s never been much of a secret that Castiel hates his guts.

I know I’m kind of bias here because I generally don’t enjoy HS fics (I have to mention that every sing time in case someone forgets), but I did actually somewhat liked this one! Probably because of the whole horror aspect, but yeah, this was pretty good.

Summary: Senior year of high school is generally considered to be a struggle; with a new boyfriend and a group of jocks who won’t stop straight-out harassing him, it’s nearly impossible. Despite being in love and enjoying its perks, Dean grows desperate enough to seek aid from a practiser of one of the oldest arts – witchcraft – to hopefully make their lives (especially Cas’) easier. Spells are a dangerous business, though, and oftentimes, not even the best intentions can make a difference.

Admin A’s notes: I think I enjoyed this fic more than I should have because A) I don’t like the emotionally unbalanced nerd Cas and B) brainless jock Dean doesn’t work for me either. But sadly this is what most (if not all) high school fics are all about, or at least this is how they start before the super-rapid character development where they go from hating each other to being inseparable in less than than paragraphs :’D

Summary: “Seriously though man, you should hit that.” Three lockers down Castiel spies a handful of his classmates, humans, chattering. Benny Lafitte is the one speaking, and the person who should “hit that” is none other than star quarterback Dean Winchester. Dean smiles brightly at his friend and shrugs.

 “Maybe,” the football player says noncommittally.

“Well if you decide to pass, you cool if I take a shot?” asks a slim redheaded girl. Charlie, Cas thinks her name is.

Dean laughs. “Feel free, my Queen.” The three of them chuckle together before Dean slams his locker shut and they begin to walk in Castiel’s direction. They veer as a unit to avoid his wings, but other than that don’t acknowledge him.

Castiel sighs. The entire school was a mix of angel and human, one of the first of it’s kind, and for the most part it had been successful. The two groups got along well, and many cliques were composed of both. Castiel was just a loner no matter which species you were looking at. He was too quiet, too shy, and just generally too dorky.

Admin A’s notes: Thank Chuck there’s a part two to this fic and it’s finished! Lol yay :’D I started reading the first part in this verse because of this ask and when it ended I was left with this expression 0.0! I mean Wtf I needed more, like now. Luckily for me, the next part of the verse is already finished so now I’m all good.

Summary: “Cas, it’s not going to break.” Dean, just to prove it, stomps once, twice, three times against the ice. He even slams both feet down against it just for good measure, laughing when his foot slips and he crashes to the ice.

“Dean!” Cas yelps, tears welling in his eyes and hands reaching for Dean.

“Cas, I’m fine,” Dean assures, moving to stand, eyes locked on Cas.

Then the ice breaks, and Dean falls through. The last thing he sees is Cas’ horrified face, helpless to stop him from falling before the cold hits him, stabbing the air from his lungs with fingers like knives and stealing every thought in his brain. He was pulled from the water that day, but later, he would remember the exhilaration of the ride and the joy of the laughter and the fear of the fall and the cold of the water, and he would think that that’s what loving Cas has always felt like. A constant back and forth of laughter and cold, of warmth and sickness, of love and hate. Loving Cas has never been easy, but falling for him has always been the easiest thing in the world.

How to do Math if You’re Struggling

You don’t have to use all of these all they may not all work for everyone, but this is just a list of helpful tips for anyone!

First

When you are introduced am new concept, instead of just learning HOW to do it, try learning WHY you do it. Just looking up the term on the internet can help a lot if you aren’t understanding a concept

In Class

Pay attention as much as you can! this may be an absurd request for some people, but do as much as you can

When taking notes, write down the steps of solving the problem

Write examples that the teacher does. If you have trouble following these when reading your notes, try writing any change in the problem in a different color in the different steps

Distinguish each section or chapter. Keeping things in chronological order can really help.

I there is something that you don’t understand, ask. Whether it be the teacher or a peer. It helps to ask specific questions because it makes sure you are addressing exactly what you aren’t understanding

DO YOUR HOMEWORK this is the MOST IMPORTANT if you are having trouble understanding. When doing your homework if you get something wrong, try again a few times. If you still don’t get it, ask.

If You Still Don’t Understand

If you have tried new techniques and really tried to understand and still don’t get it, ask for help. Whether it be a teacher or a peer, just get someone to sit down with you and explain it

Getting help from a peer can be very helpful. They may have an easier time explaining it in terms that you will understand

No matter who it is, Someone will always be willing to help.

For Tests

Write up a summary of all the material that will be on the test. Write the steps and explanations

Make a practice test. Compile problems from all the sections or chapters that will be on the test. If you get stuck, use your summary sheet, and remember to ask for help if you need it

when you do take the real test, TAKE YOUR TIME. don’t freak out, and remember to think about what you are doing

Remember, if you finish half the test and get them all right, that is better than finishing the whole test and getting them all wrong.

In conclusion, please do not get discouraged! All it will do is make it worse. I once could not understand math at all, but over time I just figured out what worked for me. These are obviously not the only things that help understand math, but these are some things I learned that have helped me to have an understanding of math.
